Sean Rourke, the screenwriter for an upcoming low-budget actioner called BALLISTICA (formerly 1000 BULLETS) was recently called to set by director Gary Jones for a late night of rewrites. On his blog, Get Kraken, he subsequently wrote about the experience that included meeting co-stars Marty Kove (THE KARATE KID) and Robert Davi (LICENSE TO KILL).
The roughly $2 million film stars Paul Logan (THE LAST BAD NEIGHBORHOOD) as a CIA-trained expert in a form of “gun-kata,” tasked with stopping a terrorist organization from unleashing an experimental bomb that could kill millions. Gun-kata refers to the term coined by writer-director Kurt Wimmer in his sci-fi sleeper hit EQUILIBRIUM which featured an invented martial art involving Hong Kong-style gunplay and close-quarter combat. Below is the official synopsis for BALLISTICA.
BALLISTICA – The CIA’s most dangerous weapon. Damian (Logan) has been trained in “Ballistica,” a deadly form of hand-to-hand combat using ballistics and firearms. He is one of the few Americans who has perfected it, which makes him the CIA’s best weapon against international terrorism. But now, a deadly organization known as the “Hand of Truth,” have developed an experimental bomb that threatens the lives of millions.
Together with his Operations Commander, Riley (Kove), Damian must embark on an international manhunt to find the Micro-Pulse Bomb and the sinister man who wields it, his arch-nemesis, Dragomir (Andrew Divoff). The only problem is that everyone capable of disarming the bomb have been killed, save one, the beautiful Dr. Alexa Tanner (C.B. Spencer).
Now Damian must protect Alexa from assassination, find the bomb and get her close enough to disarm the weapon before it can be detonated. But in a world of spies, intrigue and international terrorism, who will be the last one standing in the duel of BALLISTICA?
Simon Rhee (REDBELT) and James Lew (18 FINGERS OF DEATH), both seasoned stunt actors and coordinators co-star.
The film’s action is choreographed by Cole S. McKay, a veteran stunt actor and action director who is credited as stunt and fight choreographer on Walter Hill’s UNDISPUTED and Don Wilson’s RING OF FIRE 2.
Now in post-production, BALLISTICA is currently being shopped by Hollywood Wizard. Pics from the feature can be found at the company’s official site. (Keep scrolling through the images’ popup window to see all the pics.)
