Arnold joins dream team ‘Expendables’ cast

Arnold Schwarzenegger

Sylvester Stallone’s action adventure THE EXPENDABLES is turning into a mega line-up of action veterans now that TMZ confirms that California “Govenator” Arnold Schwarzenegger will be joining an impressive cast list that already includes Stallone, Mickey Rourke, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Randy Couture, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, and possibly Scott Adkins. Ben Kingsley and Forest Whitaker are rumored to be in the film as well.

TMZ and others are making a big stink about Arnold doing some acting on the side while California’s budget falls through the San Andreas Fault line, surely to cause the next big quake and sink half the state into the sea before global warming gets a chance to flood the coast line first. Politics aside, I’m happy to see Arnold getting back in the movie game with Stallone now that his tenure as governor is gradually coming to a close. Schwarzenegger was last seen on screen joking around with Jackie Chan in the underappreciated Disney bomb AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS in 2004.

Stallone has made a phenomenal comeback as an action star and filmmaker with RAMBO. I say, let these guys go out with a bang before they end up in wheelchairs. Heck, Clint Eastwood is still facing down punks onscreen at 78 in GRAN TORINO. There’s no reason these guys should stop.

I just think it’s a shame Stallone couldn’t have fit more stars in his movie. Let’s get all these guys together with Bruce Willis, Chuck Norris, David Carradine, Samuel L. Jackson, Wesley Snipes, Ron Perlman, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Steven Seagal, Kurt Russell, Roddy Piper, etc. I’d like to see one movie populated by nothing but hundreds of action stars past and present. Let it be a free-for-all where everybody tries to out-shoot, out-punch or out-talk one another. Who cares who is left standing? It would be a lot more fun than watching giant heaps of computer-generated rubbish roll around together through cityscapes for two hours in another TRANSFORMERS sequel.

THE EXPENDABLES, a film about a group of mercenaries sent to take down a South American dictator, begins shooting in March and is planned for release in 2010. Jet Li is listed as being part of the lead cast so it should be interesting to see what he ends up doing. Unfortunately, his recent Hollywood efforts have been less than stellar. WAR, co-starring Statham, turned out to be a dud.

Stallone’s pic is being produced by Nu Image, the company also responsible for Isaac Florentine’s upcoming film, NINIA, starring Scott Adkins.

Update: Arnold confirms TMZ’s report in an interview on ABC.

Now the only other kind of movie that can top this one is if Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Sammo Hung, and Donnie Yen would make a movie together in Hong Kong!

"It is too bad the movie is R-rated. We need more films that put communism in its proper light, not as some theory abused by it's practitioners, but a horror that destroys liberty and kills people. Young children need to know that." While watching yet another Holocaust disney acting auditions movie, I'm still waiting for the movie version of Solzhenitsyn's "A Day In the Life of Ivan Denisovitch".

Yes!!! I was hoping Arnold would be in it! I've been thinking of the same Ideas for yrs. All old school Acton stars kick-ass mayhem! Why Jean-Claude Van Damme turned it down, who knows? Chuck Norris would be awesome too, it would make up for his last lame movie releases! I wish Charley Bronson was sill around. "Let the bullets fly, bones break and bring on the gore!"

Great post Mark, good way to put it!

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Nothing like my favorite site confirming Arneld to be in this action epic! Over at imdb, us fans have been wanting Arnold to join the cast every since Jason Statham and Jet Li were announced. And I cannot believe Mickey f'king Rourke will be in this with the possibly of Scott Adkins. This will rock way to much. This is going to be the action flick of the forever.

I have the the movies with stallone and arnorld staring jackie chan and they are that great or nowhere great.

This time we can see real action mass put to the test with pure high octane action.

I prefer van damme over chuck norris any day.

His fims i love are kickboxer, bloodsport, hard target, cyborg, double impact and double team.

I think van damme should have joined the cast, wonder why he did not? he could still change his mind if stallone wanted him.Regradless i'm sure it will be a great movie with all the old and present action stars.

finally they're gonna be in a actual film together. they don't need van damme or norris, it would be a plus though. those other people mention shouldn't be in it. jackie already done a lot with arnold, like of course AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS, also they did a commercial about stopping piracy. for sly, there's movie call An Alan Smithee Film: Burn Hollywood Burn, which whoopi goldberg, jackie chan, and stallone, they did a cameo in.

    ...and TMZ sux ballz.

they definetely need jackie chan in this joint. He WAS JAW DROPPING AMAZING THE FORBIDDEN KINGDOM AND THAT SAY HE IS BACK. NO MORE HOLLYWOOD COMEDY FOR KIDS.

BUT JACKIE CHAN IS WORKING ON 2 EPIC MARTIAL BATTLES THIS YEAR AND PLUS HE IS PRODUCING A SERIES CALLED SHOALIN TEMPLE. HE IS CURRENTLY FILMING A MOVIE A ABOUT SOLDIER WARRIOR SO IT IS ROAD PERIOD MOVIE. NOW I SAY JACKIE CHAN IS BACK AND AS I LONG AS HE STAYS AWAY FROM HOLLYWODD. AND NO MORE COMEDY CAUSE HE WILL LOOSE RESPECT AS A MARTIAL ART IS HE KEEPS ON WITH THE COMEDY CRAP.

He is also working on a epic movie soon to be masterpiece by a general who rules with power like jet li did in the mummy 3 and it is pure action.

He is rumored to be cast in the movie tekken plign lei wulong .

He is already very this year so much movies and series to compltete so i doubt it.

Unlesss he has time in his schedule.

This is already a nice line up of starts. It's cool that Arnold will now be in the cast.

All they need now is Jackie Chan. Then we'd have the double dream movie: Arnold and Stallone and Chan and Jet all in the same film.

    Well, one can dream.

man this sounds nuts. i cant help but look forward to this. i hope its nothing but visceral hardcore action - leave drama stuff out of a movie with this much testosterone.
