Hong Kong martial arts movie legend Gordon Liu announced on his blog that production just wrapped on a new Bollywood action movie that he is appearing in. “It has been [an] exciting new experience,” said Liu.
For the past two months, the “Master Killer” has been on location in Beijing and Thailand for the Warner Bros. production CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA, an action comedy starring Akshay Kumar.
CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA sees Kumar as a lowly Mumbai cook who is mistaken for a martial arts hero. Directed by Nikhil Advani, the film is loosely based on Kumar’s real life. Before he became a Bollywood superstar best known for action film roles, Akki, as he is affectionately known to fans, worked in Bangkok restaurants. He also has a strong background in martial arts.
Kumar’s biggest success has come from starring in the KHILADI action film series but in recent years has been seen mostly in romantic comedies. CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA marks a return to the action genre for Kumar, a decision he came to after being inspired by his son, Aarav, to do more action roles.
CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA is scheduled for release in India and the U.K. later this year.
