Brad Pitt

Update: In speaking to a rep at Warner Bros., MTV has just confirmed that the London Mirror’s story stating that Brad Pitt is joining the cast of SHERLOCK HOLMES is complete bollocks. Here’s what Warner had to say:

The report in today’s London Mirror is completely inaccurate. Brad Pitt is not joining the cast of Sherlock Holmes and we’re extremely pleased with the production of the film. As planned, it will be released on Christmas Day, 2009. In order to complete the movie, we’ve scheduled a few days on set to shoot a couple of additional scenes, obtain pick-up shots, and perfect some of the visual effects elements, all of which is standard filmmaking practice.

Suffice to say, that’s the last time I source the London Mirror.

Actor Brad Pitt may become a late addition to the cast of SHERLOCK HOLMES after disapproving studio execs screening a rough cut of the film discovered that the sleuthing protagonist was noticeably missing his arch-nemesis. British tabloid The Mirror is reporting that on late notice, Pitt agreed to portray criminal mastermind, Moriarty to help out director Guy Ritchie whom he worked with previously on SNATCH.

According to the Mirror’s sources, production has been extended for an additional 10 days to allow Pitt to shoot his scenes in and around London. The film has already had its release date pushed back till after Christmas.

There is no word on whether or not Pitt will be crossing fists with Robert Downey Jr. who plays a re-imagined martial arts-fighting Sherlock Holmes. A source on set suggests Downey and Jude Law (who plays Dr. Watson) may come back for a day or two to shoot scenes with Pitt.

Huh is right. Maybe Pitt will play Moriarty but there is no way he is the arch nemesis in this film. The bad guy here is supposed to be Lord Blackwood played by Mark Strong.

The source is the UK tabloid The Mirror, which you can't even wipe your ass with. Unless there is verification from elsewhere, I wouldn't believe anything coming out of them.
  • Good point. There was recently an unfounded rumor about Holmes and Watson having a gay relationship in the film which was picked up by the tabloids and turned out to be untrue.

Huh? What kind of idiot would only come up with the bad guy in a big-budget film half-way through a shoot, when the movie's due by Christmas?
