Hong Kong action superstar Jackie Chan has been on the search for a new action star, which resulted in the reality television show THE DISCIPLE. On July 27, the competition came to an end as Chan has picked out his new action star, who will learn Chan’s tricks of the trade from the man himself.
Jack Tu Sheng-Cheng beat out fifteen competitors to become Chan’s new “Disciple”. Tu has been training under a strict regime since the age of six. Tu beat out runners up Yang Zheng and Jerry Liao as Chan presented the big award at the ceremony.
As the winner of the competition, Tu will star in three Chan-produced action films, tentatively titled SPEEDPOST 206, WON’T TELL YOU, and TROPICAL TORNADO. Runners up Yang and Liao will have supporting roles in the film while the trio are to get lead roles in an upcoming action television series.
The films will be executive produced by Stanley Tong (RUMBLE IN THE BRONX) and Peter Pau (THE TOUCH), while the films will be directed by Xie Dong, Jiang Tao and Cai Rong Hu. Each of the trio will direct a movie and members of the Jackie Chan Stuntman Team will be the films’ stunt choreographers.
