Cine-Asia to bring Dragon Dynasty releases to UK

FIST OF LEGEND (DVD - Dragon Dynasty)

Good news for U.K.-based martial arts movie collectors. Cine-Asia has signed a deal with The Weinstein Company to bring Asian action movies released on their Dragon Dynasty label to the U.K. FIST OF LEGEND, starring Jet Li, will be the first title to be released followed THE TAI-CHI MASTER, FONG SAI YUK (aka THE LEGEND), INVISIBLE TARGET, ROB-B-HOOD (aka ROBIN-B-HOOD), and SPL (aka KILL ZONE).

According to the report on Screen Daily, “All of the releases will be digitally restored special editions featuring original language tracks with English subtitles and a range of bonus material.” That reads like the U.K. will be getting exact copies of the U.S. releases.

Ironically, Cine-Asia is run by the same team that ran the Hong Kong Legends label which is what Bey Logan and Brian White had left to go work for TWC on the Dragon Dynasty releases several years ago. Logan and White have both left the label, although Logan is still involved with TWC as a consultant. TWC will also be distributing Logan’s upcoming feature films beginning with BLOOD BOND.

Hopefully, TWC will use the money from this sale to release some more titles on the Dragon Dynasty label like their remaining Shaw Brothers and Golden Harvest classics sans bonus material.

I guess that since there are words in English at the bottom of the screen that you can turn on or off, technically they do have English subtitles. Whether or not they have anything to do with what's actually being said is another story.

I don't actually own any of this particular assortment of Dragon Dynasty releases. My understanding is that there's nothing wrong, other than 2 really retarded name changes, with SPL, ROB-B-HOOD, and INVISIBLE TARGET. The many assorted issues with the rest of the titles (cuts, weird blurring, questionable picture quality, downmixed audio, garbage subtitles) have already been well documented.

So, congrats UK on getting a good release of SPL - still my favorite Wilson Yip film that isn't named BIO-ZOMBIE.
