Cung Le, one of the most recognized international kickboxing champions in the world as well as in mixed martial arts and Sanshou, was flown from the United States to China to appear in Yuen Woo-Ping’s latest film TRUE LEGEND.

As previously mentioned, TRUE LEGEND stars Zhao Wen-Zhou as the man who would become Beggar Su, one of the most memorable characters in martial arts film history, having been played by Simon Yuen Siu-Tin (Woo-Ping’s father) in DRUNKEN MASTER (1978) and in a comedic light, Stephen Chow in KING OF BEGGARS (1992).

Le plays a Brigand chief who holds a striking resemblance to a character in the classic Chinese novel JOURNEY TO THE WEST, the Bull Demon King. Le learned to work with Woo-Ping’s style for the first as well as learn Chinese for the role. Le held the role of a “student” to Master Yuen and even got permission from the production company to keep his costume when he heads back to the United States.

The set-up for the Zhao-Le fight involves Beggar Su storming the stockade for a rescue mission. While Zhao has had his share of mishaps with Woo-Ping’s level of choreography, he has kept up full speed and Le hoped to do the same.

Le’s no stranger to films. He had a starring role in the still yet-to-be released BLIZHNIY BOY and plays Marshall Law in the soon-to-be released movie adaptation of the video game TEKKEN as well as appear in the upcoming film FIGHTING opposite Channing Tatum (G.I. JOE).

This movie is sounding better and better. Vincent Zhao was incredible as the main villain in Jet Li's The Legend, we all know how great Master Yuen Woo Ping is and Cung Le is going to be an amazing addition to the movie.

I read that book and came away with the same opinion. I could definitely see Cung Le playing the part of the main character.
  • I believe Cung Le can do well as an actor. He should convince Yuen Woo-Ping to read and then cast him as the main character in an exciting, romantic and thrilling movie, called Lobrigolin and the Book of the Ogham. I just finished the book which is listed on Amazon.com. I couldn't put it down. It's as good as any Harry Potter novel that I've read.
