Dante Lam will direct ‘Dragon Tiger Gate’ sequel

DRAGON TIGER GATE (2006) A $10 million sequel to Wilson Yip’s DRAGON TIGER GATE is in the works from Enlight Pictures and producer Gordon Chan. Dante Lam (THE SNIPER, BEAST COPS) has been picked to direct. Enlight is teaming with a recently formed Asian Alliance of film companies led by Salon Films to muster funds for the project.

The upcoming film and its predecessor are both based on the nearly 40-year-old comic book series “Oriental Heroes” by Tony Wong Yuk-long. Enlight intends to broaden the franchise further by developing a video game based on the series.

No word on if any of the original film’s stars including Donnie Yen, Nicholas Tse and Shawn Yue will be returning for a second round of CG and wire-assisted martial arts action.

    i really enjoyed wilson yip's DTG it contained some really good action scenes courtesy of Donnie yen, and Nicholas tse and shawn yue held their own as well. the only major problem was that it lacked a decent story with poorly developed characters.

    heres hoping that Dante Lam can retain the original cast and deliver a better story.

    Hmm - I really liked those Jademan comics, especially Oriental Heroes. Sort of hard sometimes waiting for the fights, but then they'd give you an issue or two that were nothing but action. I didn't realize that that's what Dragon Tiger Gate was. Will have to look it up, and am interested in more news about the sequel.

    mark, through your sources, have you been able to find out if they plan on bringing on some of the villains from the global cult? like skeleton secretary, chan-ou-wan (who killed tigers kid brother, hence why gold dragon and tiger join forces again), or jupiter? i know i have asked you this stuff before, since i am not too sure as to how familiar you are with the actual comics

    they reinvent the storyline every 10 years or so, but since their incarnation into american comics in the 80s and early 90's, im curious to see how far they go.
    each villain showcased an amazing martial art, worthy of the cgi and wirework they put together for the first one. these villains would be great on the screen if they are done right

    for anyone not familiar with long hu men (forgive my spelling...it's called oriental heroes in the states) it's a great story, and tony wong tried to tie in alot of the social issues of the day like aids and drug trafficking and so forth. the collection in english is well worth seeking out

    i know i've stated in the past as to how im not too happy with cgi and wirework in recent films, but this is a story that actually needs it. many people were not too happy with the first film, and the ones who followed the comics here in the us were REALLY not too keen on it. i however enjoyed it.....just wish they delved into it a little further

    also, anyone know what tony wong is doing now? despite cameos in jackie chan films? i know he went to prison like many big wigs in the HK scene due to embezzlement (i think that was the charge).

    jademan comics were, at one time, the greatest thing besides watching a kung fu film. great artwork. when i saw that hell's windstaff was from the same comic, i was also pleased with that effort, despite it being a period piece. oriental heroes (in it's last incarnation) is taking place in the now.
  • I haven't run across any details on the plot at this point. As for the comics the movies are based on, I haven't read them although I know of them.
