The Associate Press reports that Donnie Yen was in Hong Kong today to promote 14 BLADES, his latest martial arts movie which is heading to theaters in February.
Yen stated his reason for taking on the role was to play a villain who discovers his humanity. He also joked that his co-star Kate Tsui was a clumsy fighter but added that it’s more important to “project the aura of an ancient fighter.” Nice face save Mr. Yen.
14 BLADES is directed by Daniel Lee (BLACK MASK) and stars Donnie Yen as a ruthless, Ming-era secret service agent who tries to put his violent life behind him but is betrayed and hunted by his former colleagues.
Vicki Zhao, Wu Chun and Sammo Hung co-star. Action choreography is by Ku Huan-chiu. Ku previously worked with Lee on BLACK MASK and also doubled for Jet Li numerous times in films such as FIST OF LEGEND and ROMEO MUST DIE.
Yen recently wrapped production on IP MAN 2 by completing a fight sequence with Sammo Hung in Shanghai. He will next be appearing in Teddy Chan’s highly anticipated martial arts actioner BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS which opens in Hong Kong on December 18.
