The makers of Wu Jing fight flicks FATAL CONTACT and FATAL MOVE are back with a new martial arts actioner that appears to be their best effort yet. Dennis Law directs an impressive cast including Simon Yam, Bernice Liu, Ken Lo, Andy On, Lam Suet, Xiong Xin-xin, and rising MA actress Jiang Liu-xia, star of COWEB. Action choreography is by former Jackie Chan stunt team leader Nicky Li, with cinematography by prolific DP and director Herman Yau (TURNING POINT).
Written and produced by Law, the film concerns growing mayhem that ensues after a Hong Kong triad boss is arrested and executed in China, leaving the head position open to a number of leading contenders.
Twitch’s Todd Brown caught part of the film at AFM but said he bailed on it half way through because it was so bad. “Really, really weak. Jiang needs to get herself into a real film with a real script SOON or she’s just going to disappear,” wrote Todd on his site.
The action looks good to me from the trailer and “making of” footage below but I haven’t been particularly impressed by Law’s past martial arts films in general or Nicky Li’s choreography so we’ll see how it turns out.
BAD BLOOD is scheduled for release in 2010.
