But how, and where can I learn it? Where can I find the body harness for such work?

It's not as easy as you'd think. Unless you can rig up a cheap one yourself (which probably wouldn't work), you can expect to pay a king's ransom to locate and learn to use one (from an instructor). And besides, there really aren't many places to learn wire tricks.

Sorry about my earlier reply, but I couldn't resist it ;)

Anyways, first of all, I think you could learn to do wirework yourself if you had the basics, like how to set upp the rig and to make it safe. But a wire-rig is REALLY expensive, and to make one of your own.. well, let's just say, that we don't want any broken necks here!

But good luck anyways

There's information about wireworking at www.matthawkins.co.uk. It's an amateur movie makers forum! Use the search facility to pull up old threads that have the information you're looking for.

I'm called "CamClub" on there!

have a look at www.sweeney-special-effects.com

pretty reasonable prices for the rigs etc. they provide lessons aswell [in the US]. also you can contact your local theatre/dance group who could help you out. if that fails get in touch with special effects/stunt teams who work in the film industry. bon chance

Hey Sipsong, you don't happen to be from Thailand do you? Looking at your screenname I realised that it means "twelve" if I remember my Thai correctly.

Anyways

if you want to learn wire rigging and wire stunts you should try to get associated with a sunt team, and learn from them. it is realy dangerous to try it on your own.
aswell the timing is the most important, to get it just right takes a while, better do it with experienced people.

Amspec makes the best harnesses.
find their website on google.
only about 600 dolars for a full harness.

as far as the riggings, your local hardware store and home depot should have what you need.
make sure you get atleat 2mm wire. and if you don't know how to make the knots I wouldn't even try wire work. I have seen wires explode when the knots aren't done correctly. very dangerous, can you say whiplash?

I'm also a amateur kung fu movie maker who has a "do it yourself" interest in wire work. What I plan to do is make essential a big swing-set without swings out of 4X4 wood. Attach pulleys and use parachute cord attached to a repelling harness

I've done wire-fu work in independent filmmaking style, learned most by myself and also read a bit about the primer which I have permission to repost it, so if you go to the www.batmanfanfilms.com's forum and under help, you can find the post

it's called

Wire-stunt primer (something of that sort) if can't find, do a search.

The guy who did this is at tumblemonster.com
