Good day everyone!
I wanted to share with you the home project I am currently working on. It's a film about HK actor Alexander Fu Sheng - about his life and his movies. As I see it, it's gonna be a 75-85 minutes montage of 2-4 minutes clips about all of his movies (40+). which are illustrated by movie clips, and some parts of his life (first steps in movie business, Jenny Tseng and such), which is illustrated by photo montage. The project is in russian voiceover (mine ) but I plan to make english subtitles. For your consideration I uploaded to Youtube one clip - the one about Chinatown Kid and it's subtitled in english. Enjoy and feel free to comment!

Akirus, this seems like it could be a great primer on Fu Sheng! Nothing wrong with subtitles (save for a few typos), but you could consider finding some English speaker to read the narration for a version that could be enjoyed by English-speaking fans! The pictures and clips could be more easily enjoyed without having to read subs at the same time if you do it this way! Whatever the case, you've got a possible hit here, especially if you put it out on DVD or make it available for download! Well done clip!...

I'm not a native speaker of english so sure these subs are not perfect, and the thing is that this project is entirely enthusiastic so the budget for it is big fat zero and I can't afford an english voice-over. But maybe, when I finish it and upload to some world trackers (I make it in MPEG2, so the finished project will be in DVD format), someone will volunteer to read the text from english subtitles? I won't delete source files for this project and if someone will send me voice files I'll just put them in instead of russian and mux the project again.

You're doing what you can with what you got. That's cool, just the same! I hope more people watch your clip and add input to your effort!

Soooo awesome, Akirarus. I am a huge fu sheng fan, so the english subtitles do not bother me, any tribute I can see is greatly appreciated. I think you are doing a great job and keep up the good work. I am so anxious to see the finishing project or another clip. I hope if you have the time you can upload it to youtube. This is sooo great and thank you for wanting to do a project as such, many, many thanks:bigsmile::bigsmile::bigsmile:

Well I'd posted some other clips but while I'm making new ones I often return to those I already made - to add something (picture or maybe missed fact in voice-over) or correct. So these clips are changing all the time. Because of It I'll add final english subtitles only when I finish it.
Thanks for encouragement! :) The project is moving ahead, just now finished "Deadly Breaking Sword" (I'm making clips in chronological order of his movies).

Akirarus, we hope you have as much verified information on Fu Sheng as possible, because it often seems much of what is known about him is second-hand or word-of-mouth! It could even stem from a mere error in copy on a DVD's sleeve; there was that one insert [for "Treasure Hunters"] that said Fu Sheng broke BOTH legs [while making "Heroes Shed No Tears"] when it was actually ONE leg! :nerd: It's safe to say you've checked all your facts before you started, but no matter what, somebody's BOUND to stumble upon something! I think you've done your homework on this, but--"never say never"! We happily await the final result!

Well HK Cinema of those days is pretty misty so I'm sure there will be errors but here's the good news - everything can be corrected, i'm not a commercial company who releases the movie and then forgets about it. There always may be "Alexander Fu Sheng Project: Version 2.0". :)

BTW. One leg it is. :)

I'll drink to that! Your project is automatically guaranteed to be welcomed with open arms more than a Shaw reissue from Well Go USA!

Yes, I red this one a week ago or so. Found couple of facts I didn't know (about Chi Kuan-Chun in particular), so thanks! :)

Nice but that a spoiler telling the end.

Well I thought about it but I think his movies are not Sixth Sense and Usual Suspects, their main attraction are not in scripts and considering that most of his movies are made by Chang Cheh who likes to kill off in the end everyone involved these endings are not a surprise. And I can't miss an opportunity to talk about differences in endings of two versions of "Chinatown kid" and "Men from the Monastery/Shaolin Avengers". So I guess this project will come off as "Full of Spoilers".

Some updates here. All the clips (total of 41) are finished, the voiceover is done completely. What's left is some technical work with merging them together (normalizing sound, transition effects and such), making english subtitles and finally DVD with menu and chapters. Big thanks to everyone from this forum for your help (both intentional and unintentional as I borrowed almost every photo of Fu Sheng from here for my project) and I think it's gonna be legen... wait, wait for it... dary!
Couple of weeks and it'll be finished. Estimated running time 86-87 minutes.

Is Chinatown Kid ever going to be avaiable in a remastered DVD? I can't find it on the sites I visited.

I finished the project. What's left are only english subs but when I started to translate them from russian to english I suddenly understood that my practice with russian-english translation is almost absent. So I'm wondering maybe somebody here can help me? For example, right now I have started subtitle file with 13 minutes of english subs which are pretty disastrous (but understandable). It's 170 lines for now. If somebody from USA or UK agree to look at them and edit them, it'd be awesome. I may send them by e-ail or upload to some file-sharing service. Total running time of the movie btw is 1.28.15.

Greetings, Akirarus! Anybody offer to check your 170 lines of subtitles yet? If not...I think I can help! If you are interested, send me a PM, and we can proceed from there. I await a reply from you.... Brother Fang:nerd:

This is a fantastic montage, and quite an undertaking. The fact that a fan did this should ensure the clips are worth watching.

My Russian is rusty, but I can read a bit of it. I would be happy to help with any English text or speaking. I am disabled, so I have quite a bit of time on my hands. I'll PM you.

cheers
