I wonder if it will be SE crap only. I heard they released the no SE trilogy on dvd a few years back and they weren't even anamorphic transfers:squigglemouth:

There are talks that the original versions will be coming to Blu-Ray and that Lucas is finally acknowledging them as the classic versions instead of "workprints."
The speculation is that the sales from this BR release will go to fund remastering the original versions.

Unfortunately they are the worthless special editions which I bet will have even further changes to it. He gave some half assed excuse that releasing the originals on blu ray would be "kind of an oxymoron because the quality of the original is not very good. You have to go through and do a whole restoration on it, and you have to do that digitally. It's a very, very expensive process to do it. So when we did the transfer to digital, we only transferred really the upgraded version."
At this point, he could keep on ruining the trilogy more and more, if that's even possible. I won't be buying them and I'll just stick with the LD's.
Here is a pretty good article, a bit lengthy but very informative, about the blu ray release and his weak excuse for not releasing the original versions untouched.

The 1st. 3 movies were the best hands down! But I did like the "Revenge of the Sith" The actual transformation into Vader was the best scene in Hollywood History! So I cannot wait to have them on Blu-Ray!

Gorhama sent me a link the other day and I got to see this brief scene. Okay, I felt right off of my geek pedastal. I admit it. Cool little clip. I want more. But on DVD please. I have not given into the Blue Digital Beast... yet.

Yeah poor George Lucas is strapped for cash, he just can afford to release the originals on DVD. Give me and f-ing break.
I'd bet anything the special editions will have further changes when they get the blu ray treatment. They have changed everytime they've been released. I love the originals and they were a big part of my life growing up so it pisses me off that Lucas is treating them like they were some kind of mistake.
I have a chinese dvd set that is just laser disc copies, Empire even has an ugly audio delay, but I have yet to upgrade them.
The SE added effects and changes in voices etc are bad enough but transfers suck too (thanks for that link Make Believe): http://savestarwars.com/specialeditionfail.html

I also want the "Classic" Trilogy just as it was released in the theaters. Cleaned up with great audio....but I don't need the Special Editions.....AGAIN!!

As long as he doesn't add some more CGI shit to it, and removes Hayden Christensen's face from the altered Jedi, I'm willing to check it out.

Yes that scene I hated the most at the end of "Return of the Jedi"!

Wow, now that's a deleted scene worth seeing. ROTJ for years had ben my favorite of the series, until Lucas added the previously mentioned Hayden's ghost at the end. It's just plain bad taste. He should of been a middle aged man like in the original, not young Anakin.

I think you'll find you'll be extremely disappointed.
That new scene got me hyped up! Doesn't the latest dvd release of Star Wars trilogy have both original and special editions?
Yes, sort of. The biggest complaint was they were unremastered non anamorphic transfers taken right from the laserdiscs. There were also some very minor changes to it as well. The bottom line is lots of people (especially those that hate the special editions) couldn't justify spending whatever money they cost at the time just to get pretty much the same transfer they already had on bootlegs taken from the same source.

I know I will. Lucas just has that effect on his fans.
What was the rationale for doing that anyway? Christensen would have been a little kid when Jedi was filmed, so it was just a stupid thing for Lucas to do. And did Christensen get a fee for appearing in Jedi, or did Lucas give him a screwjob on that one?

I guess he wanted to make the movies appear more consistent and in line with the prequels. I bet the real reason is because he is George Lucas and it's his movies and he can ruin them all he wants. I bet Christenson was just happy he got to appear in a good Star Wars movie for a change.

That is hilarious.
I bet Lucas is considering removing Alec Guiness from the first three and digitally replacing him with Ewan McGregor.

I found a cool new interview with original Star Wars producer Gary Kurtz who quit after the empire film. He gives his on point truthful thoughts on the prequels, the original storyline of Return of the jedi(that Lucas canned at the last minute), and other interesting stuff. I believe Gary Kurtz could of saved the prequels.

I like how he said they did a "pretty good job" on the prequels and then more or less tear them apart albeit pretty politely. I don't know if he would have saved the sequels since it sounds like he was never a big fan of doing prequels to begin with. Had Jedi ended the way he wanted it too we may not have even had the prequels and the world would have been a better place for it.

I believe when Gary Kurtz left the franchise a certain feel was lost from the first 2 films. I agree with what Gary is saying because his reasons why the prequels stink are on point. Gary could of done better as producer for the prequels rather than that rookie Lucas hired. I also like the original dark ending to ROTJ better too.
Return of the Jedi is no doubt a major change in direction from the first 2 films (the 2nd moreso than the first) but I have no problem admitting I like it just as much as Empire Strikes Back despite its shortcomings. I actually like the Ewoks and even the ending as kid friendly as it may be. That new ending though sounds like it would have been spot on however. Ending or not, that scene when Luke turns himself into Vader before they go see the Emperor is one of the greatest scenes ever out of all 3 of the films.

Has anyone seen The people vs George Lucas yet?
I saw the trailer and it didn't look too good. I guess I'd still watch it though.

What do you mean? You mean the deleted scene that started this thread? If so, then I agree it would have been pretty awesome to have left it in there.

Sorry I thought there was a scene where Luke & Vader went to see the Emperor together, and I missed it. But I still agree they shoulda left that scene in the movie. And it really is a big shame that there are so many more movies that could be made about Star Wars and Lucas doesn't even want to really be bothered with it.

daisho2004, have you watched Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series? It is starting Season 3 this year - premiering this Friday September 17th, written and produced by Lucas, and the LucasArts team are the main players. It's a great series and allows Lucas to flesh out alot of the stories, characters and battles against the Republic.

I seen the first Clone Wars animated series seasons 1&2 they created and the New Clone Wars Animated movie, which I thought were great. I've been so backed up that I haven't even watched any of these newer shows. But I heard there off the Hook, so My Son will be getting them from Santa this year for Christmas.
But Lucas still could've went further after "Return of the Jedi" I got my Son a Star Wars book called Star Wars: "The Complete Visual Dictionary", a must have for any fan of Star Wars.
Here is the link for the book on Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Dictionary-Characters-Creatures/dp/0756622387/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1284517105&sr=1-1

A movie based on the Timothy Zahn books after Return would have been neat, with Grand Admiral Thrawn etc.

As Dragon Sword mentioned, this show is awesome. Cinematically epic. No fan of the Star Wars Saga should miss it.
Thanks for the link to the book. However, I fear it outdated since the Clone Wars series (and video games) have brought tons more characters to this cult series.
They just had a Star Wars Celebration where Lucas attended and the Season 3 Trailer premiered. I can assure you he is still not done with Star Wars, let alone making more movies on it. The fandom is too intense.
On this topic, I am surprised the blu rays are not completely uncut. WTF is with companies now? This is one case where the gray boxed VHS set with the documentaries is more nostalgic than the blu ray releases. As big as blu rays are (and expensive to produce), you would think companies would make the releases completely definitive with every possible feature, language track mentionable. Where the sense (I mean cents) in that? :nerd:

The reason Lucas doesn't make any more Star Wars films is because it's too much of a risk and gamble for his company Lucasfilm at the moment. Bad economy, and they have made some video games that flopped and it hurt Lucasarts. The company is independently owned and survives mostly off of dvd and merchandise sales. The Clone Wars show is great testing ground with their constantly improving animation. The show is great, I really enjoy it too, and it's bringing in cash for the company.
Not that I care to see Lucas attempt to make another Star Wars movie again, but I can't buy that money is an issue. If Lucas released the original trilogy in the manner that the fans (whose opinion Lucas shamelessly ignores) want, he could make a ridiculous amount of money.

Granted these are old articles, whether or not G.L. decides to do anymore Star Wars movies, maybe he should just let the Younger Directors do them and just sit by as an adviser & producer of future movies. There are still so many different ways to go with Star Wars it really is a shame to just see it end. I mean when I was younger when the first Star Wars movie came out it was like forever waiting for the sequels. Now you can do a whole trilogy in a couple of years back to back.
