The whole documentary is about 33 minutes long.....I just compiled 10 minutes of it all...the reporter who made this DOC was a very famous guy in the UK from the 70's named Alan Whicker.....
Run Run Shaw was knighted by the Queen...hence the title Sir Run Run Shaw Athena....(Sir title means knight Of the British Empire)
Glad you guys liked it.....

The program was called Whickers World made for ITV , i have the whole program, it was made around 1969/70 and shows some cool footage behind the scenes of Water Margin i think.
This was shown at a Shaw Festival in london a few years ago and not seen since. Great that someone snuck in a camcorder...lol

Sorry I couldn't resist 86fg6t6FeRQ
That is pretty cool, most of the Kung Fu documentaries I've seen seem to skip over the Shaw's, I guess they didn't give clearance for their footage to be used.

Hey Pete !!
Yes Sir RunRun Shaw !
I must admit my Shaw Brothers love affair goes way back ..( & It is still burning as passionately as ever ,hehe ! ). Since I as a 7 year old tried to "borrow" my Dads Shaw Brothers stills " collection" time & time again to show my friends.
This stuff was "rare/valuable" ( at least to my great dad !) so Boy was he mad when I got caught !!
His "punishment" ideas came the movies he loved so, I still today have very good thighs (!) since I pretty much grew up in the HORSE STANCE ,LOL !! Other parents in Norway though my dad was nuts off course !
But none of this weakened my Shaw attraction, I am ( just for my self) working on a Shaw "research/writing " thing ( for lack of a better word ), but it is VERY HARD to research the remarkable Shaw family !! It is very restricted /guarded, full of rumors and inaccuracies.
I have most of the regular online sources, some older Chinese articles/newspaper & there are 2 alleged Shanghai University thesis written on Sir Shaw ! I am trying to gain "access"to these but it is restricted ! I need actual permits , but I am hoping they exist ! Probably censored but still should provide us with interesting info, since our interest is his movie industry & not his, Runme & the other 4 brothers alleged connections to government & triad .
1974 : CBE
1977: Knighthood
1998 : Grand Bauhinia Medal (GBM) ( Awarded by Hong Kong Special Administration government )
So please anyone with " rare " links /knowledge etc. let me know ???
Xiexie Athena..;)

Hey Pete !!
Yes Sir RunRun Shaw !
The female equivalent for this honorific title is "Dame". "Sir "derives from the old french "sieur", itself a contraction of Seigneur meaning 'lord', from the Latin adjective "senior" (elder).
Other titles in British knighthood are (for men), Mister, Master, Esquire and Lord. For women: Miss, Madam, Lady.
All of them are from XIII century, today used in social backgrounds without the importance given in Middle Ages.

The female equivalent for this honorific title is "Dame".
Is that why at the end of Gone With The Wind, Clark Gable says 'Frankly Scarlett, I don't give a Dame'? :)

I just caught this, but thank you for posting it. If there is more to see, that would be really great, otherwise I think it would be impossible to find any behind the scenes footage like this or on set interviews from the time. David Chiang's interview was good. Haven't been able to find many interviews with him, especially in english. The sound dubbing team was also very interesting to watch. Thanks again.

That would most definitely be a excellent extra ...
But who owns the legal rights to it ? I realize it is not an issue when sharewared (Sp?)..
I am aware of several other incidents were the " legal rights" issues have prevented many valuable extras to be added ..

Got that doc from Giles a few years back. Really like the back lot footage.
When some of us from the board went to Hong Kong in January, we went to Shaw Brothers studio but couldn't get pass the front gate. Unfortunately, we couldn't see anything that might still be around other than the few building we could see.

Is it a tourist attraction, are any TV shows or minor filming done there? Is it in ruins? Why haven't they bulldozed it or developed new properties there? Or have they?

Big Mike mentioned to me before we went over that much (all?) the back lot was gone. I assume that meant bulldozed.
UPDATE: Here's more from Mike....
Bits of Shaws backlot are still there..its in process of being redeveloped, not sure exactly whats left.
TVB rebuilt majority of backlot at new TVB studio down the road at tseung kwan-o.
