View Full Version : Favorite James Bond song
The Running Man

Reading the Bond thread inspired me to create this one. :)
Every Bond film has a theme song for each film. Which is your favorite Bond theme?
For me, it's
1. Man With the Golden Gun
2. You Only Live Twice
3. Live and Let Die
4. View to a Kill
5. The Living Daylights
6. Goldfinger
7. Casino Royale
None of the rest really left that much of an impression on me.
...oh, actually I love the music in OHMSS, but I haven't seen the movie in a while, and can't remember if that's part of the title song---if it is, that goes near the top of my list.

I always liked "For Your Eyes Only" sung by Sheena Easton.

My favourites (not in any particular order):
1. Live And Let Die (same movie) - Wings
2. All Time High (Octopussy) - Rita Coolidge
3. Nobody Does It Better (The Spy Who Loved Me) - Carly Simon
4. All The Time In The World (On Her Majesty's Secret Service) - Louis Armstrong
5. For Your Eyes Only (same movie) - Sheena Easton
6. You Only Live Twice (same movie) - Nancy Sinatra
7. License To Kill (same movie) - Gladys Knight
8. If You Asked Me (also License To Kill) - Patti Labelle
9. The Man With The Golden Gun (same movie) - Lulu
10. A View To A Kill (same movie) - Duran Duran
I never cared for the Shirley Bassey theme songs.

Hmmm... I'd say this would probably be my top ten (in alphabetical order).
All Time High (Octopussy)
For Your Eyes Only
Goldfinger
Licence to Kill
The Living Daylights
Moonraker
Nobody Does it Better (The Spy Who Loved Me)
A View to a Kill
We Have All the Time in the World (O.H.M.S.S.)
You Only Live Twice
I've excluded theme music.

I'm embarrassed to say that Ah-Hah's (or, however they spelled their name) titular THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS isn't bad. In fact, that entire soundtrack is pretty good--especially the Chrissy Hinds (spelling?) song and the tango-style tune featured in the film's first action sequence.
Others I like:
Goldfinger - Shirley Bassey
Diamonds Are Forever
You Only Live Twice
Nobody Does It Better - Carly Simon
For Your Eyes Only - Sheena Easton
A View to a Kill - Duran Duran 8o
Live and Let Die - Paul McCartney
If You Asked Me To - Patti LaBelle
BTW, would it be premature to note the worst Bond themes?
Die Another Day - Madonna
Licence To Kill - Gladys Knight
The World Is Not Enough - Garbage
Tomorrow Never Dies - Sheryl Crow
Goldeneye - Tina Turner

Worst?
Easily Madonna's Die Another Day.
No other song comes close for sheer awfulness.

For Your Eyes Only
View To A Kill
Diamonds Are Forever
Moonraker
007 Theme
Dr. No
Goldeneye
I like Die Another Day in a cheese-fest kinda way.
I do not like the new song in Casino Royale, it has no hooks only a droning lame-o energy.

Alright, I'm gonna dig a little deep here.
My all-time favorite Bond song would have to be one that was never even officially released until over 25 years after it was made.
"Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" was sung by Dionne Warwick and was originaly supposed to be the main theme for the film "Thunderball".
But the producers decided to nix it at the last minute because there was no actual mention of the word "Thunderball" in the song and they thought that was important enough to axe it. So they went with Tom Jones instead.
They should have used it at the end of the film and could've had two singles but what do I know?
Anyway, it's an INCREDIBLE song and I honestly think it wipes the floor with almost any Bond song period.
I'm dead serious.
Ill see if I can't post it later.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang blows chunks.
It's a dreadful, tuneless piece of dreck.
I'm soooooooooo glad they got Tom Jones instead for a new song.
I agree that the new song by "someone nobody has ever heard of" is really lame. I could've done better myself. Mind you, I'm no David Arnold fan, and I notice he was involved. Theme aside, can anyone remember a single piece of music from Casino Royale? Now can you remember the music from OHMSS in 1969? Damn, right!

Mark, I always knew you were a hater to begin with.
But you're seriously out to lunch on this one.

PARTICULARLY after I looked at YOUR list...
"All Time High"???!
Easily one of the worst ever.
That song does NOT belong in a Bond film.
As a soft rock radio staple maybe, but not Bond material, no way.

I agree there, horrible song. I didn't care for Nobody either.
I don't remember any music from the new film and since they barely played the trademark theme or worked it into any other music, no wonder I can't. At least in Goldeneye they played it during the tank chase which was way cool.

I really like All Time High- one of the few 80s Bond themes I find up to par. It has a really nice melody. And actually, the last Bond theme I do quite like.
I didn't think much of 'Mr Kiss Kiss Bang Bang' compared to 'Thunderball' either, but it has a certain kitsch charm. Not as bad as most of the recent ones anyway- the new one (sang by Audioslave singer, BTW) isn't much better, really. At least Madonna's was memorably dreadful, 'You Know My Name' isn't even very memorable. Just as well the film more than made up for it.

I think it works perfectly. No law says all Bond themes have to be fast or jazzy. It's nice to vary them a bit. Rita Coolidge sings the lyrics beautifully and John Barry's music is ace as (nearly) always.

Fast or jazzy? No.
But I also feel that NO Bond song should be softer than f#cking Charmin toilet tissue, which "All Time High" most definitely is.
