Hmmmm....
Shogun Assassin
Ilsa She Wolf of the SS
Dawn of the Dead
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Forbidden Zone
There are so many, so I tried to pick faves of mine from different genres. But I like many obscure films, I don't know if anyone knows Forbidden Zone. Replace that with The Toxic Avenger, if you don't. If you don't know Ilsa, replace that with Reform School Girls.
The Dragon

The Evil Dead
Little Shop of Horrors
Night of The Living Dead
Rocky
Halloween
Didn't intend on so many being horror, however, that genre screams cult!

Aren't really popular blockbusters the exact opposite of a cult film? Maybe I have the definition of Cult movie wrong.

Hmmm....
Suspiria for sure made an impression.
Peter Jackson's Brain Dead- the best horror-comedy of all time!
Slackers- a personal favorite although it has definite flaws.
Animalympics- not really a cult movie at the time but now might as well be.
Primer recently blew my mind.
Yeah, five doesn't really cut it but it does prevent long dissertations.

I don’t think The Stepfather has been mentioned. I’m so glad they remade this movie. I haven’t seen the remake, but when they announced there was going to be a remake, a remastered special edition DVD of the original Stepfather came out!:smile::smile:
Other cult favorites (A couple of these I don’t know if they were big hits when they were released, I’m just assuming they weren’t…) -
Cujo
Following

Good call on three o'clock high, I've seen that so many times in my youth. I also love the Criterion release of Hoop Dreams :). It's one of my favorite docs of all time. Also: "that's a real shame when folks be throwin' away a perfectly good white boy like that."
Quick note above: a cult film can be mainstream if it acquires hardcore followers (like the original Star Wars). I think the Wiki definition is pretty dead-on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cult_film
My five would be:
Evil Dead II: I'm a Bruce Campbell fan and I liked this more than the first entry though I've seen Army of Darkness more times.
Three O'clock High: "Pain is temporary, film is forever."
Braindead: Never looked at lawnmowers the same.
Crumb: Makes you feel better about your family. Along with Hoop Dreams one of my favorite docs.
Murder by Death: Had to pick at least one film with Peter Sellers (would The Party be considered more cultish?; The Pink Panther Strikes Again is one of my favorite films of all time as well).

I agree that Criterion DVD is great. I always wanted them make a part 2 of Hoop Dreams, and that’s what you get with the commentary from Arthur Agee and William Gates.

Night of the Living Dead ----- George Romero's classic b&w version.
Half Baked ------- to me this is funnier than anything Cheech and Chong ever did.
The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly ----- the definitive spaghetti western.
Dirty Harry ---- the definitive rogue cop movie.
Any Bruce Lee film ----- each a cult classic in their own right.
Honorable Mention: Monty Python's Life of Brian ----- I'm a Christian but this movie's depiction on Roman history and the way people respond to religion and government in general owns me.
