I can't say i'm shocked by the news about rebooting Batman.

All I'm going to say is why, why, why?! There is no need to reboot Batman granted TDN might have had some flauses but nothing to warrant a total reboot of this series, if you want bring in a new Director! I think Christian Bale right now owns this role!

I don't see a reason for a reboot and then again I do.
I don't think anyone wants to pick up on Nolan's thread for the character which is understandable. So if someone (the studios really) want to do another another Batman, it only makes sense to reinvent (and I don't really like that term; maybe "continue" would be better) the character.
I just hope they fore-go the origin story and just write a good action/adventure script and go from there. Personally, for fun, I'd love to see a truly boss CGI movie of Batman. (But that's me.)

I think the only reason they are rebooting this is because of money. Dark Knight made Warner Bros. one hell of a profit. Since, Nolan won't be making any more Batmans after the 3rd one they still plan to cash off. Its always about the money these days....

We all know The Dark Knight Rises will be Nolan and Bale's last Batman film. I'd rather Nolan end it on his own terms, than run it into the ground like Raimi's Spider-man films.
I don't think a reboot will mean a new origin story. It's means we'll get another version of Batman in a different universe like the current Superman movie being made.
I could also mean a Darren Aronofsky directed Batman story!
It could also mean the studio going the safe route and getting a hack director like Brent Ratner/McG/Paul W.S. Anderson and a currently hot actor like Shia LeBeouf. In that case I'd be going why, why, why also?!

All movies are about money. Since this announcement I've read the studio is not too happy this will be Nolan's last Batman film. This will be the rare time a director made the story his way and leaving on his own terms.

I don't really get the appeal of Batman, the character (I'm not a fan of Nolan/Bale's adaptations either, but that's another argument for another day).
He seems like such a whiny nerd, sulking in his basement for his whole life and raging against the world because his mumsy and daddy got killed in front of him. When he does go out, he's armed to the teeth with his millionaire's gadgets to violently enforce his personal (borderline-fascist) brand of justice. Frank Miller's "Dark Knight" iteration of the character especially.
Which is why the Adam West version of Batman was the only one I could really ever get into...(though Keaton's Batman is infinitely bettter than Bale's)...West was the only one who seemed to see the inherent ridiculousness of the character and he lampoons it to the hilt, thus giving it some entertainment value.
