there seems to be a lot of super trolls on the board latley and also seems alot of inaction surrounding their activity. i think this board deserves better than to have a few(or one sick barstard with 20 accounts) run around here slandering people, building a fake rep, ripping off honest members, having conversations with themselves, sidetracking good threads and being disruptive. i noticed this last year and stopped trading here alltogether(sorry a few sick people have to affect a nice group of traders) i did because it's pretty obvious to me what these people(person) are doing although i don't expect others to see what i can see. i will not suffer in silence no way i'm a call it like i see it.

I agree, some varied usernames are definitely contained to individual posters, seemingly glaringly obviously so in some cases. Very much so; if they think they're being clever they're not - just childish. I don't understand what is hoped to be achieved by such? If it is to cheapen the experience of just talking, conversing and learning about these films - to disrupt, then congratulations, you win fuckwit - as much as I try to overlook it, it does actually bother me.
Ok, some cases I don't get what's going on - the Frank one's thrown me for a loop (is Frank Wanchaitransient?!), but another specific obvious comes to mind. Sort that shit out!!!

the only option due to the fact that people are using different IP addresses is to close the board to open posting and require email activation. But this would lose the average fans who hear of this board, or come across it and just want to post. If concerned members have someone that they think is a previous poster who was banned or the like, they should contact a Mod to let them know. It's not possible for all the Mods to look at each post, but we catch a lot of them. I myself try to come on once a day to check, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to miss something. Ditto for the other mods. The best thing that a concerned forum member can do, is ignore their posts and tell a Mod. I would say 90% of the trolls feed off of attention. The more you comment and respond to them, the more they they get off on it. For the record, the "people" in question have been banned and will continue to be banned.

I have to say, when I first came on board here, I wasn't ready for the trolling 'type' attitude I'd received upon posting a few reviews, yet these people were considered respectable members. Since then I've hardened a bit to negative (counter) criticism. Though, I do realize that at any given time a particular member may be stressing (for whatever reason) and argue. Forum etiquette is something I'm still struggling with, and if what silver hermit is saying is an actuality, that certaintly isn't helping members get along. I can't say I've recognized any one member 'all out' trolling, but I don't particularly look for it either. As much as I may seem like one (a troll) at times, I hope I'm not considered an instigator of it. I'm gonna pay a little more attention to this matter from now on.
Though, I can't say anything about getting ripped off from trading, the rest I see as friction of differences of opinion mostly, and that's something that's always gonna be a part of the forum.

I would like to state I try to be as forthcoming and sincere as possible. Since I've only had my PC a little over a year, and joined this site not long ago, I've felt a great appreciation for the fact that there exists a forum where I may share in my MA film interests, and express and exchange my ideas over the subject matter. I continue to support a possitive forum in which we may all continue to cultivate our experiences, and cast away the negativity that metriculates into our discussions from time to time.

In an open forum there's no real way to prevent this from happening, it just sorta comes with the territory. The best defense, is simply to encourage members not to give into the trolls desire for attention. It's far more effective to inform a mod and have the troll removed, or watched.
At a horror forum I moderate, we see this type of thing daily. Just last month we were having trouble with someone spamming the board with all sorts of obscene (and in some instances illegal) images. The IP was continuously changing, we would ban one name, and they'd sign under another. We tried various ways of diverting their attention, encouraging them to lose interest. Yet ultimately were forced to contact their internet provider, who in turn terminated the trolls service and were considering handing the complaint over to the authority's.
Never bothered to follow up on it, but was told by the internet provider that one of the IP's the troll had been spamming from was the local public library.

Is it wrong that I should find such dramas rather amusing?
As long as it doesn't take away from the discussions on this forum then I don't mind a bit of public breakdown/insanity once in a while. Obviously the racism and xenophobia is deplorable, but the paranoia and irrationality is strangely compelling.
Perhaps we should send money to Frank's paypal to get him the help he needs before he returns to his former abode under the bridge, sleeping next to his stash of rare korean films.

thank you guys for your comments. i'm glad to see others see this type of thing going on.

i think thats a good idea your have there linn. as far as the email activation. with the new home and re-registration coming it would be very easy to intergrate that idea.

in no way is this a jab at the mods i feel they are very tolerant to a lot that goes on around here. in the same token being neutral does have its downside when trolls are pushing to see where the line is drawn.

ditto well said. i will add when a member is looked up to mod or not there comes a small amount of responsibillity with it.

i hope your not either ;)

no, i'm sure your not alone there, myself included. there has been times there is people that are so dumb it's beyond reason and i kill myself with laughter.

i agree and i also think the discussions around here wouldn't suffer if we delete a stupid off topic counter productive posts. too many times i think i'm about to learn something and threads get turned into a spitting match.
frank has been here a long time and his misfortunes a while back had alot here concerned. the anti-semetic nature of yesterdays episode leaves no room for sympathy but then again he did not post them here. that is no excuse for slurs of any kind. the fact frank says he never traded with the guy brings up reasonable doubt. just last year i had someone bold face lie on the board about something so insignificant it really bugged me so i can understand that point of view. but the thing i can not get is how a 10 dvd-r trade turned into anti-semitisim i just don't get that connection.
that said disagreements happen thats understandable but lack of reason is insane.

Right on. I am mindful of it now.

I knew something strange was going on here. Just in the past week I saw more post that were abrasive, rude and downright nasty than all the years I've been a member.
