Benoit's death has received more press in the news because of the circumstances of his and his family's death. But I just found out another wrestling superstar passed away, on June 15th:

Sherri Martel. I remember her from the 80s, as a wrestler and manager for Buddy Rose and Doug Somers in the AWA, but she became most famous as manager for WCW's Harlem Heat.

She looked as good as ever in the 2006 WWE Hall Of Fame. It's sad she leaved too soon.:(

And she certainly was great eye candy when she moved. :) Nowadays, people with her shape are commonplace in the WWE, and they all look siliconed. Sherri was the original.

She looked to be a hot looking woman, anyone know her cause of death? She was rather young to have died.

I don't have the link, but one page suggested she died of a drug overdose. The official story is that foul play wasn't suspected, but that she didn't die of natural causes. There hasn't been much written about her death after it was first reported.

If she did die of a drug overdose that is a shame, thanks for the info KFS.

I read somewhere she was having coffee at a table with her mother and suddenly she collapsed. This seems to contradict another version in which her husband found her in her bed. I read that in www.411mania.com

Sherri did indeed die of a drug overdose (no surprise for anyone who knew her). Her family is livid, because the state said her toxicology report may take ONE YEAR to be completed, while they put a rush on the Benoit toxicologies because it was bigger news. I can understand why her family is upset.
It does appear from what is currently known that her husband moved her body, probably to make her death look a little less pathetic. It is believed (speculation by informed inside sources) that Sherri consumed some of her mother's prescription medication because she couldn't get her hands on any recreational drugs. She had been staying with her mom after a stint in rehab. A very sad story indeed, Sherri was very nice and I always got along great with her, but she was also WAY into drugs like many in the old-school wrestling world. She unfortunately followed in the footsteps of Miss Elizabeth, two cool chicks now dead from being stupid with drugs.

I didn't even know Elizabeth was dead but i've been out of watching wrestling for years. She was Randy"Macho Man" Savage's valet and also wife wasn't she? Never knew she had a drug problem either, so many people have throwed their life away because of that. What a waste......

Elizabeth, who had been living with Lex Luger, died after drinking alcohol and popping pills. She had the same problems a lot of the '80's stars had: Too many drugs, and a body that was getting older and couldn't handle them anymore. Lex found her on the couch not breathing and called 911, but it was too late: Elizabeth was dead.
Police searched his house and found steroids (surprise, surprise) and many prescription drugs that Lex didn't have a prescription for. He was charged a number of counts of possession, but was NOT charged with anything to do with Elizabeth's death, as she simply overdosed on her own. His trial is still pending, I believe. Lex is now living with a minister and his family who befriended him, as like most idiots from his era, Lex blew every cent he ever made and is BROKE. Pathetic.
I never really thought Elizabeth was all that hot in the 80's, but when she was with WCW in the 90's, I was backstage on a house show and saw her up close and personal, and MAN was she a breathtaking broad. GORGEOUS face and smile. I would have hit on her if I didn't think Randy (who is mental) would beat the $hit out of me. He was still weird about Liz even at that point.

Was Randy really married to Liz at one time and did she leave him for Lex Lugar? Seems I heard news of Randy abusing(beating) her at one time but I may be mistaken and thinking of someone else.

Lex is actually going to be at the FYE in Delaware at the christiana mall. I saw it advertised on a peice of scrap paper they had hanging up at the store. I saw it and couldn't stop myself from laughing; poor bastard.

Yes, they really were married (LONG before their televised WWF "wedding"). They divorced before Randy's run in WWF finished up. Elizabeth did NOT leave Randy for Lex, they divorced MANY years ago now and she was only dating Lex recently.
Randy wasn't physically abusive (I don't believe), it was more mental. For instance, he would lock Liz in their dressing room backstage so she couldn't get out and no other male wrestlers could get in. Most of all their problems came from his INSANE amount of jealousy and paranoia. He really is a pretty bizarre guy. His problem with Hogan came from Hogan's wife setting Liz up on a date with another guy. This was AFTER Randy and Liz divorced, but Randy was still PISSED about it! He has MAJOR control issues, obviously.

Wow I never knew the Macho Man was such a jealous and insecure guy, thanks for the info Todd. He did always look like somebody with high blood pressure/tension though the way he talked and acted with the veins bulging out in his head and neck. :lol

Here is a current write up on that idiot Lex Luger, if anyone is interested. He's still as dumb as ever, substituting one addiction for another.
I love in the last paragraph his quote about "hypocrisy". Yeah gee Lex, being a drunken, drug addled scumbag for your entire life and then telling kids not to do those things isn't TOO hypocritical, is it?

The official toxicology report just came in:

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Tuscaloosa homicide investigators say WWE Hall of Famer Sherri Martel had multiple drugs in her system when she died, including a high amount of oxycodone.

A homicide spokesperson said her June death in McCalla was ruled an accident.

Like I said, it was drugs (and lots of them). A very sad end.
