Greetings,

I started a similar thread awhile back. I asked that you all sell your city to me. I am now interested in Texas only.

Why? I'm 36 now. I spent a summer in Texas when I was 15. I stayed w/ my sister & bro-in-law in Beeville, Texas. During that summer, I visited San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Victoria, & Houston. And several small places that just blew my mind, the beauty, that is.

I like the dry heat. I had never seen a palm tree until I went to Texas. I can't forget the "drive friendly" signs. Silly?

Also, a work associate was telling me how wonderful El Paso is. Very moving conversation. Lots of passion in her voice.

l grew up in Illinois. Born in Harvey, grew up in Decatur. It's hot & humid during the summer. Wet & cold during the winter. The land is flat. Therefore, very boring to drive through the state. I do miss Lake Michigan, however.

We currently live in Memphis, Tn. Wonderful place to visit. Living here has been very stressful!!!!! I don't feel like going into that. However, we've gotta go!

Please tell me about Texas in general. I don't want to go to Dallas or Houston. I'd prefer a city w/ a population around 50,000- 100,000. Expensive? Are some locations humid? Etc, etc, etc...

The only member who I am aware of who lives in Texas is Venomsfreak. Hope to hear from you.

Thanks in advance.

Hey ShaKwon, I live in the southernmost part of Texas because my husband commutes to Mexico everyday. It's really hot and humid here. The population is 98% Mexican. I haven't been able to find a job since we moved here because I'm not bilingual. We have tarantula season every year when the ugly things come out to mate, we also have snakes that like to show themselves every once in awhile. If you like Mexican food your in luck because there's a taco place on every block, even the gas stations sell tacos. Coming from NY this place was a major culture shock, I've been here 3 years now and I'm just starting to get used to it. Personally I wouldn't recommend it. I've heard Austin is really nice though. :)

WOW! Thanks for your response.

Tarantula mating season?! I thought that the frogs, or maybe they were toads, that I saw everywhere in Beeville were strange. Tarantulas. My wife is not going for that.

We do like tacos, every now & then.

My inability to speak Spanish does concern me. However, being in the medical field, I'm certain that there are lots of interpreters.

I do know culture shock. I guess I won't allow myself to get use to Memphis. In my mind, to do so would be to accept a lesser standard. I do think that Memphis would be more tolerable if Memphians accepted themselves for who they are.

Has anyone ever visited Texas & would like to share their experience?

King of the Hill rules, btw.

Hi, I'm from Kansas, in the suburbs of Kansas City. Climate ranges from extreme heat and humidity to freezing cold (sometimes in the same day) Very little culture here. Everyone drives gas guzzling SUVs. White middleclassness is the norm. Largest minority here is Mexican, who are not well accepted by the immigration nazis. American and cheddar are your only choices for cheese. Liquor sales on Sunday were just legalized, but only until 8 pm. Smoking is banned in most cities and restaurants. The most rampant crime here is underage drinking and marijuana. Atleast that is all the cops are concerned with. And kung fu films are the laughing stock of society.

I don't live there but Austin is an awesome town, I'm not sure what your into but there is a great music/bar scene, and a lot of jobs, I've though about moving there myself at one time.

Kansas sounds like several Midwestern states that I have either lived in or visited. Still, there's something addictive about the midwest.

I grew up in the Chicago area.

I partied in Minneapolis on my way home from Fairbanks, AK. I was stationed there when I was in the Army. Fort Wainwright, to be exact. Took me 5.5 days to drive from Fairbanks to Harvey, Il. I was only interested in getting home. The only pictures that I have are in my head. I have been blown by the beauty of Alaska & Canada since.

I love to visit St. Louis. It seems to have a little more flavor every time we visit.

"Naptown" is pretty cool. Indianapolis, In for those unfamiliar w/ its unofficial handle.

I've never been to Michigan. However, I can't wait for my wife's family reunion to return to Michigan.

Milwaukee is cool

Thanks for the Austin, Tx scoop. It's a city that's "on the move." According to an article that I recently read.

Thanks
