While watching ENTER THE EAGLES (1998: Shannon Lee, Michael Wong), I spotted Vin Diesel lighting a match to fire up a Hummer. :b Obviously cast as an "extra," he was on camera for only a split-second.

Have you come across a Western actor you weren't expecting to see in an Asian-produced film?

Absolutely positive, it was him (albeit, with hair and a lot less massive)! 'Sorry I can't put up a screen-cap.

In Taiwan, I saw a Japanese/Chinese co-production called The Setting Sun, that I believe was filmed in China and starred a Japanese actor speaking Mandarin. It co-starred Diane Lane, Yuen Biao, and had a very brief appearance by Kiefer Sutherland's father, actor Donald(?) Sutherland.

I just learned about The Setting Sun and the Japanese actor you are mentioning is none other than Masaya Kato from DRIVE, MUSCLE HEAT, and recently THE SHINJUKU INCIDENT. Amazon seems to have this...will have to check it out soon.

Richard Kiel makes appearances in a few Hong Kong/Taiwanese flicks, the weirdest being War of the Wizards with Betty Pei Dee.
