well this may be seen as a blow to the right wing I see it more as CBS picking the less costly solution.
his comments i didn't witness myself but I been hearing the backlash of it. upon hearing what was said I knew it was wrong but I didn't think it was that bad it could have been worse i guess i would of had to have heard it myself. i'm sure those comments are echoed on school yard playgrounds every day.
"There has been much discussion of the effect language like this has on our young people, particularly young women of color trying to make their way in this society," CBS President and Chief Executive Officer Leslie Moonves said in announcing the decision. "That consideration has weighed most heavily on our minds as we made our decision."
seems more like he buckled under pressure from lost advertisers. at first Don was only suspended for 2 weeks CBS thought that was good enough. but protests increased and they buckled.
Time Magazine once named him as one of the 25 Most Influential People in America. i would agree with that and he was a member of the National Broadcaster Hall of Fame. now how could such a respected man be so stupid?? didn't he learn anything from KKKramer???
I concider this protecting the bottom line and not the media being responsible for itself.

If one looks at the lyrics of many hardcore rap songs, some of which get played on the radio, one can hear many of the same types of words used. This is blatantly racist in BOTH directions.
Sharpton should be out there ripping on black rappers for referring to women by the same terms.

How is it a blow to the right wing? Don Imus is a liberal predominantly supporting democrats and a few centrist republicans. I used to listen to him in the late 90s...it was a comedy/political mix (and not very funny, but smart) and this comment was taken waaaay out of context. This is a blow to free speech in general, and when you are going after satirists and comedians, we've got a real problem with polticians, pundits and activists not understanding the First Amendment.
This really is the Saul Rosenberg call from the Jerky Boys album come to life.
"His words hurt me. Can I sue for punitive damages?"

DP i agree with you i've heard worse
dion brother i don't think you read my post with an open mind
i heard people on the radio claim it was a blow to the right wing. I see it more as CBS picking the less costly solution.(taking the heat off themselves)

There was nothing for him to learn from the Michael Richards incident. He was doing a comedic riff, as he's done for most of his career, and the joke was this goofy old white guy was spouting rap lingo. Then a couple of self appointed leaders decided these words were "racist."
Richards, on the other hand, spouted racist words because of his inability to deal with a heckler. He had a nervous breakdown on stage.
I'm not disagreeing with your point, I just don't see how anybody could think it was a blow to the right wing. Unless this is a warmup for the return of the Fairness Doctrine and the left wanted to take a liberal out first. Out of curiousity, do you remember who said this on the radio? I was listening to conservative talker Hugh Hewitt today, and he was gloating over the Imus firing, because he dislikes "goon radio." Fox Radio host John Gibson had a similar reaction, and I heard nothing from my brief sampling of Randi Rhodes' show on Air America.
For the most part, I was listening to Opie & Anthony and they were defending Imus to the bitter end.
I do agree with you that CBS took the easy way out. I thought it was rotten of MSNBC to yank the simulcast while he was raising money for his charity.
But he has plenty of "FU money" so I'm not feeling sad for him. But this is an ugly precedent and shows how cowardly these media corporations are in the face of controversy and misdirected anger.

Why couldn't they wait until the fundraiser was over? He made $40 mil last time around. With this publicity he could've generated alot of money for a very good cause, one much more important than the inapproriate comment.
I really can't stand Don Imus, or any radio talk show where they inject their opinion into you for four hours a day, as a matter of fact, radio sucksass all together, they play the same songs over and over, I say death to radio:evil thank god for ipods.

A man who raises millions for children and war veteran charities is not as important as girls who throw a ball into a basket really well in today's hypermedia.
Are there any Morning Zoos left? I listen mainly to XM & Sirius. And Imus dumped the "Morning Zoo" format 20 years ago.

I don't see how anyone can say this is a blow for either side. I could go into a whole debate about why a 2 party system is terribly bad and most politicians can't really identify or understand us middle class folks. But that's totally OT
It is a harsh condemnation of how far our standards in the USA have fallen. When someone doesn't know where the line is drawn as to what words he can/can't use then there is a serious problem.
Jackson and Sharpton are no better, vultures circling looking for a carcass to hold up and rip pieces off. And these are the same 2 that say "constructive dialogs", WTF?
I am soooooooo glad I don't live in the mainland anymore. I'm moving the hell out of the US and to another country.

I dont know much about this guy but I dont like to see someone fired for a stupid comment or remark. I think the suspension should have sufficed. What he said was insulting not hateful imo.

Absolutely crazy. What venomous delusions some people have. Given that I have no idea who the hell Don Imus is, I'm a little nonplussed as to how it managed to turn into an epileptic rant by some incoherent little anti-Semite distilled from some Protocols of the Elders of Zion For Dummies website.

it was hard to see the difference in what were his words and what he pasted from somewhere else.
as i'm a very open minded person i was trying to understand the meaning but i did not realize how long the post was and how many different thoughts were there. there were some truths but then it went anti-jew and thats where people are going to get turned off. speaking against other groups or humans will do that.(but i did print it so i could digest it later)
the small town i live in was founded by freemasons in the 1700's and there is a masonic temple here i can look up from my PC right now and see it. it has no windows and i have always wondered what goes on inside. i have had conversations with low level masons and they have told me about some of the things they do. they even told me about celeberties that are masons that might surprise you. its funny how much people tell you when they are drunk but i won't say anymore.
i was born a christian but i would say around 1992 i started to think about religion and i wondered who was right that lead me to try to learn about other religions and what their holidays mean etc. i read some of the translated koran had long coversations with some of my hindu friends about their religion i've even had satanists explain their religon to me.so to say i'm not biased is an understatment. where i live now if i go 2 blocks west its all jewish if i go 2 blocks south its all korean if i go 4 blocks south its a muslim area if i go east its chinese for about 20km. they all live in peace no racist things happen.(not that they don't feel it, but they do not act on it) so i feel i understand more than the average person in the world but i think as long as you have a good heart your cool with me because god is beond mans understanding. if i were to say i wasn't familiar with some of the opinions expressed by wantransiant i would be a liar.(plus i haven't read it all to even form an opinion) thats as far as the first part he wrote but not the anti-semetic part i don't understand the hate against jews if they are gods people. he wrote alot i am not familiar with as well. he would have been better served speaking in his own words and refering to those texts instead of pasting them here. i'm sure he is not crazy and he can speak for himself i hope he does.
(edit) to wan would you feed a baby steak???? get me?

You know the first thing a senior at the company I work for said about the recent US shooting incident? He blamed the Jews, he said they control the media and Hollywood and they don't care what those violent movies are doing to the kids. All they care about is money. He also belivies that this could have been a political statement. I see today the kid did leave a letter with something about "rich kids" and whatnot, so he might have been bullied or picked on by the spoiled rich kids.
Growing up I could never quite understand the stance on WW2 & Jews. Behind the scenes there really is a lot of envy & hate directed toward Jews, but openly everyone feels soooo sorry about what happened - or so they say.
My mom's nephew, interestingly enough, is one of the Jewish orphans that were brought to South Africa after WW2 by my grandma's friend, a psychologist, to be raised by foster parents. But not all the kids were treated well, and she eventually took this boy in herself. He is today a multi-millionaire, built from his own ambition, and a very generous person. And recently he told me he's implementing a shares-scheme for the staff. Basically everyone will get an amount of shares, and the amount will depend on how long they've worked there, not their position. So an uneducated man who has swept the floors for 25 years will get more than the manager who has worked there for 10. That's an excellent idea, and something my company has also recently done. It's part of business' responsibility towards previously disadvataged people (non-whites), although caucasians are of course not excluded. The problem is it's easy to link Jews with big business, and say all Jews are like that.
Althought the problem is obviously with business practices, from which everyone benefits, and not who is doing it. I saw an Enron documentary this weekend, terrible, 10 000's lost their livelihoods because of the greed of a couple of nerds.

the third temple will be rebuilt, Israel.
For those of you who love the jews and defend them as do i, i commend you. Anyways, listen to the talented Matisyahu. He is an extremely talented reggae artist who happens to be a hacidic jew. His lyrics are great.
