Just seen it, sad especially on christmas day as he was always on top form.
Never knew he suffered from pneumonia or he was in prison earlier in his life:\ ...

Sad news. Not always a nice human being in his personal life, but his music from the late sixties/early seventies still works for me. No one was THIS funky.
Just put 'Funky Christmas' in my cdplayer: 'Santa Claus, go straight to the ghetto. Tell em James Brown sent you'.

R.I.P. Mr. Brown. Gave us pure funk, soul and The One - a musical contribution beyond measure.
Time to slap some of his on the old player and pay some funky respects.

This is very sad news. Without James Brown, much of the dance music today wouldn't exist. It was his sampled beats that carried rap music (perhaps even resurrected it) throughout the late 80s.
RIP Godfather of Soul, James Brown.

It's an eerie coincidence that I was watching James' number in Rocky IV when a friend called with the news

Beardy82, thanks brother for posting this very important news. There It Is / Papa's Got A Brand New Bag / I Feel Good: an amazing repertoire of "founding" funk. James... you will never die brother!!!

I grew up listening to my parents play James Brown's songs. Judging by his influence on 80s-90s Hip-Hop, the man was at least 20 years ahead of his time! Truly phenomenal! The way he conducted his band through recordings and live performances was spot-on. He channeled the music. Synchronizing both his own vocals with every single instrument playing in the background--whew! He was a perfectionist. As I heard on a local talk show, his 'brilliance was in his simplicity'.
With that in mind, I thought it'd be fun to offer up some 'James Brown'-isms: "I don't know ka-ra-te, but I know ca-ra-zay!" (The Big Payback). :hat
Can anyone confirm that Maceo Parker currently plays with Prince?

Truly "The hardest Working Man in Show Business", at 73 he just performed a month earlier and was scheduled to perform in NYC on New Year's Eve! He even spoke about it in the hospital before he passed away. I guess he was requested to perform in a very special place instead...;)
May James Brown rest in peace!

Words cannot express.
Just a monumental loss...
RIP Mr. Dynamite.
:(
Shame he didn't make it to 2007, I've been thinking about picking up his box set, now I'll have to. I have much respect for James Brown, as a bass player more into rock, I knew where the really great bass lines were.

What a beautiful tribute to Soul Brother Number 1: They carried his coffin through the streets of NYC and took his body to lie in state at the Apollo Theatre so fans could say their final farewells. Hmm...I wonder if they should rename it the James Brown Theatre? I doubt that will happen.
The article also says that James died of heart failure. That tough heart of his finally gave out. Too bad...
RIP James.

Yes, but as Jim Henson found out, you can't play around with Pneumonia.
I wish I could've seen him in concert.

I go on vacation and James Brown dies and then a certain dictator gets executed and I miss it all. :x
James was great as an entertainer, I don't think a better one came out of that era. Sad to see him go, I expect a biopic in about 2 years.

Who, indeed, can play James Brown?! If he hadn't already starred as Ray Charles, I'd choose Jamie Foxx, for sure! Next choice would be Eddie Murphy. However, he's already playing a James Brown-style singer. As great as he is, I don't think even Denzel Washington could play James.
I figure there will be a nationwide search for the right actor.

CNN was respectful enough to broadcast part of it. I was soooooooooo moved! Rev. Al said it best: "We came here to thank God for James Brown!" :) :)

I was watching CNN. They said James Brown's body still hasn't been buried yet! He's apparently lying in some home in North Carolina until his estate is settled. Shite. Poor guy can't even rest after his death.
