Just watched this last night. Great western starring Charles Bronson and Mifune Toshiro. Toshiro speaks english in this film too. It was pretty cool hearing him speak english. He had a little difficulty but managed it pretty well. Great cinematography. It was very entertaining seeing these two actors on screen together. A must have for any Toshiro Mifune fan.

Does Mifune get to fight with his sword against anyone? I've always been curious about this. I guess you could call it Once Upon A Time in Japan and America? :)

I've heard him speak a little english in The Challenge, that movie with Scott Glenn. I don't remember if he spoke any in Shogun.

I've never seen the two other films your referring too, but to answer your question as to whether he uses his sword, yes he does, but there are no duels with swords, not to say there's no action. There's enough to easily carry the film. What's really cool about this film is how much more of a man Toshiro shows himself to be compared to a unscrupulous, low down no good cowboy. Though Bronson comes through in his own right. My three favorite Bronson flicks might possibly be:

Death Hunt
The White Buffalo
Red Sun

though I do like some of his other flicks a great deal, Death Wish, Mr Majestic, etc. These three just have a special charm about them.

The UK dvd has some gore and brief nudity not seen in the US video version. Not a great film, but a great cast and certainly fun.

Hs a widescreen of this popped up anywhere? I haven't bought this film ever just because am hoping for an original aspect version. Good film though.

Wouldn't matter, Terence Young never filmed in wide. The UK dvd is the correct matted ratio.

This is a good East meets West Western that fans of Bronson shouldn't miss. I liked the scene were Bronson tries to fight Mifune and gets his ass handed to him. Don't think Charles was prepared for the Jiujitsu style fighting. :lol

As for my top 3 favorite Bronson films they would have to be Death Wish, The Mechanic, and Hard Times.

Just picked up The Mechanic after not seeing it for many years. Held up well. Very cool flick. Hard Times was the same deal around six months ago. Two very cool flicks right there. Just ordered a Bronson film I'd never seen, Someone Behind The Door. A psycho/thriller also starring Anthony Perkins 1971 or 72' Looks as though it may be pretty cool.

Just to warn you vengeance, I had the Someone Behind the Door film years ago on vhs and it wasn't very good and found it boring. I believe it was a European made film and it had a very muddled and farfetched story. Bronson plays a man suffering from amnesia and Perkins plays the Physciatrist/Doctor who manipulates him. Bronson's real life wife Jill Ireland also plays a role in the film. I thought Cold Sweat, another European made film of Bronson's, was better.

Thanks for the warning Chinatown Kid, but I'm kinda lookin forward to Anthony Perkin's performance with Bronson, just a strange match up there. Anthony is usually a pretty good actor. So, we'll see.

Oh I understand man and I hope you do get some enjoyment out of the film, the only way is to judge for one's self anyway. Let me know what you thought of the film after you watch it, it's been a long time since I saw it anyway. ;)

Chinatown Kid, just watched Someone Behind The Door. Not so bad, I thought. Anthony Perkins did a very good job as the "somewhat" mad doctor. Bronson had to really try an stretch his acting abilities in this one. There are obvious grade C moments and twists in the film, but it was worth checkin out. It was unpredictable at least.
