I was just watching some trailers and saw this b/w trailer for "Samurai Fiction." It most definitely stood out from the other films as something quite unconventional. Looked very entertaining.

Anyone seen this movie wish to comment on it?

I seen it a couple of months ago, it's kind of strange, a old Samurai movie told in modern day times, the music and the humor throws it way off from your typical Jidai Geki. If your into strait up old school Samurai movies, give it a pass, if your open to something different, it's worth a watch.

I enjoyed this movie doesn't have a lot of Action but it was kinda funny, it was like a newer kind of Samurai movies they have been making, but its worth picking up or at least viewing it.

I loved this movie. While I don't usually seem to be in tune with the Chinese sense of humor in martial arts movies, I do tend to enjoy the Japanese take on that more, as I did with Samurai Fiction. It's a nice story, great widescreen B&W cinematography, and quite quirky and funny. Interestingly, with the fight choreography, they almost seemed to go out of their way to make it slower and simpler--I guess as a nod to earlier martial arts pictures.

And if you like it, the director did a follow-up called Red Shadow, which is a similar take on Ninja movies. I liked that one too.

Now I loved Red Shadow, very good Ninja movie. but don't think of it as a traditional movie and you'll enjoy it a whole lot more.

So, is Red Shadow made like Samurai Fiction? Or is it different?

Red Shadow is all in color, and maybe there's a bit more action. But overall, it's in a similar vein as Samurai Fiction---quirky, modern music, stylish, kind of off-beat story with some sadness. If you're looking for lots of kick-ass fight scenes, you'd probably be disappointed, but if you enjoyed SF you'd probably like it.
