Crap, I missed out on this 'cause I was waiting until I got paid. Anyone know another place I can get my hands on Edo Secret Police?

landshark, just email him and ask if you still can get the movie, Ichi is a Great Guy, I buy from him all the time.

I have to say - after all the praise regarding edo secret police that i've read at ninja dojo it was mildly disappointing. Damn hype - I was expecting some amazing extravaganza and instead it was a mildly enjoyable film. approach it with no expectations and you'll prob love it.

Didn't you find the swordplay exceptionally well done...?
Matsukata with two swords was amazing....employing a Musashi like prowess with niten-ryu two sword style!

If I may ask,who did the subtitles for edo secret police?
was i missing something cause I found that there was about 30 seconds at most of 2-handed swordplay right at the end of the film. Yes it was very impressive and yes there were a few nice scenes before that and yes the story as a whole was interesting albeit fairly hard to follow, but following the ammount of praise that i read at ninjadojo.com re. the action I just thought it was fairly dissapointing.
Even though i've been watching samurai stuff for a while now and I don't view myself as a novice - perhaps with coming from a background of watching hong-kong films I expect too much in the action department. having said that I don't need action to enjoy a film and there are plenty of amazing samurai action films around. Dunno - just underwhelmed. Like I mentioned before - I always find hype ruins films for me.
It took me about 4 times watching pulp fiction forcing myself to find some reason whyt everyone loved it until I started appreciating it. and that was because of all the hype saying it was the best film ever etc. If i'd stumbled on it late at night and never heard of it I probs would have been in awe of it straight from the off!

but following the ammount of praise that i read at ninjadojo.com
Don't they sell the DVD on their website or are closely affiliated with the sales of the movie on DVD-R? I usually take praise from such websites with a grain of salt because they might just be trying to push a crappy movie.

No - i don't think that's the case. Nowhere on the web that I've found has more dedicated and fanatical fans of Jidai-Geki and Chambara films than ninjadojo.

"...they might just be trying to push a crappy movie."
No I don't do that. If I think a movie is bad, I'll say so. Edo Secret Police is a spin off from the long running TV-series (many actors has starred in it) with the same name, in fact I think this newly subtitled movie is some sort of tribute/anniversary movie of the TV-series. And yes, we do promote fan-subbed stuff.

No problem. Just wanted to point out a caviat of buying titles that aren't available through other sources (i.e. the persons reviewing the title also have a vested interest in their sales). They aren't going to trash a title they want to sell, especially if they paid a lot of money to get their hands on it. Having said that, I'm still pro-boots! :)

I take it that since these are "fan subs" that CK did both edo secret police and kisaragi sword? If that is true then I will get them from him when he puts them up since his prices will be cheaper.
