I cant tell if this would cover just US interests or would it include what FEP was doing, etc.

This is also a link to the legislation:

Now, of course this is if you believe he is leaving and not blowing smoke.

I dont know what to think.

One hopes FEP can sell real estate whilst taking care not to drop the soap

Unfortunately it seems that it's the yanks trying to stop the 'Big 7' from being booted abroad. I think they wont give a crap about twats like FEP and will continue to turn a blind eye. It's all about the 'Big 7' and nothing else matters.....>:

Is this that dumb attempt to make the DMCA an even more sweetheart deal for the RIAA and MPAA? By criminalizing any attempt to pirate things - any idea how broad an "attempt" is?
Considering how many ways the DMCA has been abused to intimidate people and stifle free speech (see Viacom vs. Youtube, that spoonbender guy vs. James Randi, RIAA vs. college students, grandmothers, quadraplegics) - they want to INCREASE its scope? Doesn't the Justice Department have something better to do - like cooperate with a Congressional investigation or, say.. finding competent non-crony personnel?

reading... jesus - it's even more sweeping than that. Basically integrating the RIAA, a private, for profit business organization into the criminal investigation process:

The Chinese government has turned a blind eye toward the incredible amount of technology pirating done by Chinese companies (some say with government asisstance) for a LONG time.

I guess the US government decided that since they (Chinese companies) pirated hundreds of millions of dollars worth of US technology products that they would in turn ignore the pirating of Chinese copyrighted material (here: kung fu movie rights).

Oh well, what goes around comes around- although I personally WOULD like to see the crappy pirates put out of business for selfish reasons (ie more & better quality movies would be available).

Wondering how many of you still own bootlegs of these movies? It seems kind of hypocritical to pick on bootleggers when we all still own those old school VHS bootlegs. The "well I own them and will buy them because no one will release them" is no good. I own'd movies just as the rest of us do knowing they're boots. If you buy a bootleg, no matter the reason, IT IS STILL BOOTLEGGING.

Just wondering how many of you view this as hypocrisy to come down on bootleging when bootleggers are the biggest reason most of us know about these films and have watch'd these films?

I don't look at bootlegs as right, but I won't get negative with them knowing that in the past I have bought boots and would do so again if any of the films I want are not released by celestial. And, so would 99% of you here.

I had to add this--we're all members of this site and we have on our site a section for buying(used movies), selling(used movies) and trading(used movies). The companies that own the originals dont make half a cent off of these ''legit'' dealings.

i always wondered why people ripped Stiller66 aka FarEastPirate, but were cool with Flashlegsrare. They both did the same thing with the Shaw Brothers movies.

The problem with booters like Far East Pirate and VidAsia is that they sold their products in stores, badly dammaging the limited market.

while i agree with you, people were ripping FarEastPirate way before their stuff showed up in stores like FYE, etc. Flashlegsrare was loved by some of these same people.

Maybe many many years bootlegging and tape trading was probably essential in spreading these films around. But we all should know better that this practice is no longer needed.

As far as vhs copies, I have less than 12 and these were given to me many many years ago. I have since bought the legit versions. Dvd-r's none.

I think you have to take into account the percentage of which certain bootleggers have in the market. Stiller has a higher percentage since he's on ebay and in chain stores. While Flashlegs who is going legit has what I percieve to have a considerably lesser percentage in the market. The same initial practice may be there for a few titles in both cases. But last I check Flashlegs don't have titles in Best Buy.

I couldn't really say since that was a different time on the other side of the pond from me. But yeah according to some folks flashlegs were around very early in the game.

I think you also have to factor the source material flashlegs used for there titles at that time.

I mean I started mid 90's in the US and my source was Ocean Shores and Chinatown labels like Tai Seng, Rainbow, World etcetera. Eventually ebay and discovering earlier NTSC pre-records. Never traded, never got into pal. I'm sure there's a lot of early American collectors who can sum up there sources or what it was like back then better than I can.

I mean how long you've been in the game dndcollect?

Early 90's as far as hardcore collecting, i was casual in the 80s, cause i was a kid.

i think flashlegs did more to pererve the genre back in the day so that is why people looked the other way but in the end they were using celstials video just like FEP.

early 90's were tough, it would be a miracle to find Avenging Eagles in a store in Chinatown (Philly)

other than that it was the few i taped off WGBS philly 57 back in 93.

jeez, just looking back, it was just so dry i mean you were lucky if you could find Enter the Dragon at blockbuster, lol. one time i found 2 bad copies of Avenging Eagles and Ret to the 36th chamber in some dump store in Chinatown. At the end of Avenging Eagle there were 2 trailers, one for Spearman and one for 4 Assasins. I absolutly freaked out because they looked so awesome and tried and tried to find them.

I looked at the covers of some of my BS Jake Chan 2 packs and found an address for master arts or something. And I sent them a letter begging them to please mail me a catalog. Weeks past and I didnt get anything until one day a packet came in the mail with at the time what i thought was a gold mine. A list of almost every shaw brothers movie.

I freaked until I saw that they wanted $30 for each one!

Oh well, if its $30, its $30, so I bought all the movies that were listed in Source Magazine as Wutang Clans favorite kung fu movies, LOL!

Talk about no resources, jeez.

it all changed for me in 1997 when i stumbled upon a usenet newsgroup for kung fu movies. i used what little collection i had (like 20 movies that i busted my ass to try to find) and turned that into a massive VHS collection and for the next 3 years all i watched was Shaw Brothers movies and sports.

i had to make up for lost time.

anyway sorry to get off track, haha

Gonzales the lying "I forgot" bastard proposed this?

Hmnnnn.

Yeah I think their time would be better spent making sure our next election's votes are well accounted for, or like someone said, "cooperating with a Congressional investigation or, say.. finding competent non-crony personnel?"
