I just got an e-mail that announced the closing of FlashLegsRare. Although I never personally bought a movie from them, I HAVE seen a few that they sold & considering that some of the titles were nearly impossible to find elsewhere, it wasn't bad.
What do you guys think about the closing? Will they be missed? Does anyone know if legal reasons led to the closure?

After all this time, they were still selling Shaws and other widely commercially available flicks... what did they expect ? It's dumb, and it was just a matter of time untill @#%$ hit the fan.

as rumors are floating around the forum like wildfire about various subjects. They didn't close because because of anyone "taking them down." Please read this on their forum:
The closing of Flashlegs Rare (http://www.flashlegsrare.com/Posts.asp?ForumID=2&RoomID=3246&PostID=25238&Submit=Start#P25238)
And note:
Flashlegs.com are in the process of buying many rights and reels for a mainstream release catalogue in the coming years.
They are doing the one thing all the fans have said over the years they wished people in their position would: they're putting the money they've made selling copies to use to become completely legit. That said, it's the end of an era to a degree, as I remember back in the day when collectors from all over the world would make a trip to the UK JUST to go to the Flashlegs shop. They were a link to a time that's now pretty much gone where fans were friends with the people that supplied them with their "rares." They're also one of the only groups that actually subtitled films that have never been subtitled, even creating menus and extras for their releases. In most cases, only to often have their work stolen. To their credit, they did not put their product in legit stores nor did they sell it on ebay, something they could have done perhaps better than anyone else if they'd chose to. They're also still the only folks I've seen whose COVERS sold for high amounts of money long after they closed their original shop. Instead, they kept to themselves, expanded the films fans had access to, and helped to keep this genre going as their father had years before.

I want to thank those fans who supported FLKrare over the past 4 years. Some will be sad to see us move and some may not. With all due respect to you all FLK was never about money it was all about a deep passion for classic kung fu films and exposing the talents of many Asian artist who are now disintegrated into a nostalgic abyss for a genre that was almost dead 5 years back.
My family have been exposed to Asian cinema for more that 30 years and was past down to us by my father through a few generations of us that wanted to maintain the passion we acquired being able to see the creative and stunning classic kung fu movies made that were simply not available and would never have been. Some believe this was a beneficial quest inspired by us for die-hard fans and many more who had no other way or means to acquire these gems.
I believe awareness by way of innovative DVD releases and interactive solutions such as FLKForum and website assisted in a disannulment of the Asian martial arts genre. In saying this, our prime objective was to save the Indies sector of the genre from extinction. I watched a wildlife documentary recently and the world preservation for animal’s organization stated the fact that there were only 12,000 Cheetahs left in the wild and there were on the verge of extinction. In my opinion 12,000 was still a reasonable amount, however fact remains that previously there were 50,000 to 60,000 cheaters on the planet. My point is HOW MANY RARE KUNG FU SITES are there in the world today? And that is a question that could result to near extinction in my opinion. I mention this point for those who feel we have cause damage during our short-lived venture.
Time will tell as we have moved on and decided to acquire reels and rights to many kung fu classics in order to maintain the life’s pleasure of many like ourselves to enjoy Asian cinema in the best ways possible.

cheetah.u should ashamed of yourself doing that.there is no comparison .
good for u if u have moved onto better and bigger things, but dont ever compare yourself to any of the great things thats on the brink of extinction.
your were not all that.u got what fans gave to u in good faith and exploited it n the worst possible way.make right with people who helped you and maybe then u can join the cheetah in 100 or so years
