I've been wanting to upgrade from my old Tai seng VHS releases of these great films (A BETTER TOMORROW 1 and 2, HARD BOILED, THE KILLER, BULLET IN THE HEAD) but am daunted by all the DVD releases of these films. Basically what I want the most are UNTAMPERED WITH presentations: no cuts and no awful remixes that add new foley effects to the original Cantonese soundtracks! I've heard that the Anchor Bay releases of A BETTER TOMORROW 1 and 2 have the best image quality but some have said the remixes are awful. Do they offer the original Cantonese tracks?
Also: Is Woo's earlier LAST HURRAH FOR CHIVALRY available on a decent DVD release?

I own the Anchor Bay versions. Never seen the overseas versions, but I think the Fortune Star version is the one to go with. The Anchor Bay ABT I has a brief sound dropout in the beginning when Ti Lung has the nightmare of Kit getting shot. Anchor Bay also inserts title credits and I suspect the end credits have been chopped.
Here's two fortune star reviews:

Last Hurrah For Chivalry has a good MegaStar DVD, which I believe is out of print, but shouldn't be too hard to find. It's also slated for a HKL release sometime in the next century. Also, if you want an uncut version of Bullet in the Head you'll have to track down a VHS copy.

ABT = IVL.
Hard Boiled = Tartan Asia.
Killer = IVL.
I believe all of these are getting released by 'Dragon Dynasty' so you might wanna wait until then if you can't be bothered with these @#%$-up half-arsed editions.

Yes they do have the Cantonese tracks. The remix thing was only in the first edition of the first film. Since then it has been corrected. If you want the Anchor Bay releases, just get the box set they put out of the first two films and you should be fine as those surely have the corrected discs of the first film. :)
Anchor Bay also inserts title credits and I suspect the end credits have been chopped.
No, Anchor Bay just used the international print which had that title card.

Dragon Dynasty also has Bullet in The Head and A Better Tomorrow 2. I'll get all Woo films by them if they surpass HKL and some other companies.
