Thanks to great sites like youtube. You can view Part 1 from the main link on the Fansite. Link below.
I send Mike Leeder a copy for review in his magazine a couple of years ago and have heard nothing.
Enjoy!

Great work my friend. I just hope this doesn't get moved to the Shaw Brothers Film section lol.
Umm is that your voice doing the narrating? I'm just wondering.
When ever I post a scene, I try to put a lot of information on the description. Because fans like us, know more of the history behind it and such. Besides, I kinda feel like it's important to explain who the actor or actress is playing, if they are portraying a real person etc.

I'm sorry about that, I'm pretty sure I'd e-mailed you back about it...my mistake sir, please drop me a pm with your e-mail..am i now gonna get flamed about this .."Impact Editor in didn't answer an e-mail shocker??"
My apologies I know when you sent it over, i was really busy with stuff and said I'd get back to you, was pretty sure I had..my mistake by the sounds of it
I liked the idea, i didn't know if that was the final cut or still a rough cut..
Shall have to dig out my notes on it, i thought as "unofficial" docu's go, it was good, just thought it didn't cover as much ground as I hoped,

Yeah just refresh the Fansite main page. I decided to put up a higher quality clip! Enjoy!
Hey Venom, I think it's great you spent the time to put this together, I've been a big Venoms fan since I was a kid, to bad they don't get the respect they deserve, if only I could do a remake of the 5 venoms movie.

Hey thanks VenomsFan, part 2 is excellent as well - really digging the way you've put the audio over the visual highlights - adds a real resonance.
Looking forward to the next part, for sure!
I've never heard Chen Kuan Tai called that before, btw... interesting...
Looking forward to the next part, for sure!
Yes, me to! Maybe with the remake (which I still hope doesn't happen), they'll track all these guys down, they better at least let Kuo Choi Choreo it and give the other suviving members cameos>:

It's good that a fellow enthusiast has made the effort to produce a documentary about the Venoms. Looking at parts 1 and 2 so far, it seems like Venomsfan has done a decent job, and in part 3 or 4, I only hope he remembered to mention Lu Feng winning an award for his performance in Shaolin Rescuers.
The documentary is definitely lacking coverage, but then finding information about the Venoms is scarce. I got some nice photos of Kui Chui and his dog that could have been included, but overall there's some nice shots, including a few photos I'd never see before. I think the best part of the documentary is the way Venomsfan describes each film with an edited commentary from the film, selected from different quotes. It's as though he's put together a collection of perfect trailers that really hit the nail on the head about the story/atmosphere of these films.

Good stuff, Venomsfan! I think I could give Kid With The Golden Arm another chance after your excellent preview! :D I know you haven't got to Magnificent Ruffians yet, but it would be nice to really really stress in your commentary that Lu Feng was proving himself on-screen to be an expert with weapons--in particular the Kwan Do (or variations*). Although Lu Feng is good at playing confident villains among other qualities, it's his weaponswork that ultimately separates him from the rest of the Venoms (as my 2nd favourite actor of all-time to Hwang Jang Lee), and it's this skill that won him the award, as you perfectly showcase in the Shaolin Rescuers preview.
http://www.rarekungfumovies.com/forum/images/LuFengAward.jpg
*Somebody once suggested the actual weapon used by Lu Feng is sort of like a more basic variation of the Kwan Do, but I've forgotten what he called it.
I liked Wei Pai in KWTGA, were people really that discontent with him back in the day? I've always still considered him a Venom. Can't wait to see the 4th one.

Wow, I'm always surprised and extremely happy to see any new stuff on Lu Feng. Falkor I agree with you, his skills with weapons is just awesome. Of course my fav is the final scene in Shaolin Rescuers, although many seem to like the scene from Magnificant Ruffians better. I also like how Chiang Sheng handles weapons too, both top notch. Chiang seems to be a bit more versatile, he usually changes weapons two or three times without a problem in most of the movies.

No worries... I think I got that from Teako170 some years back, so thanks to him for that one. Not sure which magazine it was scanned from... BTW, I remember Teako170 was working on a Venoms book, but had problems with image rights; any chance we will still see this book published one day--with or without images?

I actually think some of the best fighting and one of the best characters Lu Feng ever played was his tattooed villian in Shanghai 13. Thats a character that should of had a few more films.
Trixie
12-01-2006, 09:57 AM
Lu Feng did an excellent job in that movie. Unfortunately when once again they tried to assemble an "all-star" cast movie nobody actually gets to show their best work. Too many to put a focus on any one actor, although the movie was not the worst I've ever seen. I prefer the "long hair" period pieces more.

Great Job, Venomsfan!!! it's rather dope, how you link together the fight choreography & their acting time together!!! Brilliant!
i do have one criticism, tho', it looked like a small "3 sectioned staff", from "rebel intruders". as opposed to a set of 3-piece nunchuks. which is basically the same thing, only "nunchuku" is a Japanese term. "3 section staff" is a "Tradional Chinese Weapon". (one of the 18 legendary...);)
i eagerly await the next installment!! you do have more coming, right? how many more, do you think?
thanks for all the time & effort! VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!!!

Ahh thanks there for the correction. A little more reasearch showed you are exatcly right! Check out this link I found here (http://flyingeagleacademy.com/samjitgwun.html). Nice list of moves you can do with this weapon. Looking at his use of the 3 sectioned staff a little closer, Philip Kwok was truly a master of that weapon!
Thanks for the feedback. Another installment this weekend I hope.

ching li, that is a good point. I found out that Chiang Sheng did have a family in Taiwan, which may explain his decision to stay. I am not sure about Lu Feng. But we do know they were childhood friends since their early years at the Chinese Opera.
There is no doubt though that making that move with Kwok would have been a wise one. I am not sure however that they were aware of the fandom overseas in UK and USA. Actually there is evidence supporting that they didn't know international impact of their films. This is sad.
The next couple parts of the Documentary will cover that..
Can anyone else shed light on the Venoms break up in 1983?

Geat as always, but it was severly pixulated, I thought at first it was the old films but the whole thing was like that. Shame about Chiang Sheng, he died way to young, if he only knew how many fans he had around the world. We need new interviews with all the remaining members.

Venomsfan, Unbelievable. I want to buy this on dvd so please please let me know how! also my ONLY critique of the documentury is whenever you state that chiang sheng passed away and it goes into the montage/ sad recollection part. It would have made more sense to show his best work and clips from say crippled avengers rather than the obscure shots of him with those weird ears(from the korean tv show) I understand chronologically you were trying to use footage from each period the documentury was covering right? But this is just my 2 cents.. Other than that I learned more from your documentary than any other information provided of the venoms!!! I am so grateful!

tosh - I agree the pixelation is tough on this one, something happened with the upload. Hope this doesn't ruin the experience for you at all? If so, I can work on reuploading it.
sandpalm79 - Thanks for the input! The reason I use the clips from Chiang's last appearance is because of the rareity of the footage and it was months before his passing. So I want to show as much of that rare footage as I can. Do not worry. I have made a Chiang Sheng tribute which highlights exactly what you had in mind. And that will be posted soon as well.

Saw all of the parts so far. Seems to be based on a lot of the things that went around that we've heard over the years. You can use some of the info from the dvds to tighten up your facts.
Sun Chien is Taiwanese not Korean. That was something that floated around from someone some time ago.(see a Celestial Venom dvd)
Lu Feng's weapon from Magnificent Ruffians and Avenging Warriors from Shaolin is a long handled broadsword. The only time that he ever used a kwan do on screen was in Sword Stained with Royal Blood.
www.wushudirect.co.uk/aca..._Head.html (http://www.wushudirect.co.uk/acatalog/Traditional_Dragons_Head.html)
Lu Feng and Chiang Sheng were not opera classmates. Kuo Chui did an interview with Eastern Heroes magazine in 1995. He stated that he, Lu Feng and Cheng Tien Chi all went to the same school.(Lu Kwan) KC learned Taiwanese opera and LF and CTC learned Peking opera. Same school but didn't train together. Chiang Sheng, Angela Mao, "Brasshead" and Robert Tai went to the same school. Chu Ko/Ke/Ker went to another different from those 2. Li Yi Min, Jack Long and others fall in there somewhere.
After Ninja in the Deadly Trap, KC said he missed HK and Shaw, so he left CS and LF and headed back. He was AD for Holy Flame of the Martial world and bit played in a few Shaw movies. After the movie biz died, he worked at TVB(Shaw tv) as a choreographer.
Chang Cheh always worked with a team for a few years then brought in another. Tien Chi, Chiu Kwok and Chu Ko were his last team. After Weird Man in '82/'83, he went to Taiwan with his peeps minus Chu Ko, Wang Li, Chui Kwok and the Shaw bit player regulars. He hooked back up with Chiang Sheng and Lu Feng. Attack of the Joyful Goddess, Shanghai 13, Nine Demons and Death Ring came out of that. Chiang Sheng also did 5 Fighters from Shaolin during that time.
Kung Fu Vampire Buster was the last movie LF and CS did together. Tien Chi also making an appearance. That was done around 1990. Fight Among the Supers was around '84/'85ish.
Recently Lu Feng has choreographed some fights from a Wu Jing tv show from a few years back.

hey Tosh - I uploaded higher quality video of Part 8 without the pixelation. Thx for the heads up on that.
BKarza - nice info! The documentary was made 2 years ago. I remember posting on this forum for feedback on my information. Could've used your feedback back then! :hat
Sad to say, there are several but not many from other magazines and websites to source information. This doc came out before the Celestial DVDs (notice the prints used in this film). And from we've all been reading, not all of their info is accurate to begin with. So it depends on where people get their sources. And how consistent the info is.
Check out the end credits - coming soon - for my references used when putting THIS documentary together. These people and sources helped with a great deal of info during production.

Great idea, putting the documentary online for everyone to watch. To me, using pre-Celestial copies of the movies for clips makes it seem somehow more 'authentic', so it's probably a good thing you didn't wait for all the re-masters. The 'Women of the Venoms' montage at the end is a nice piece of editing as well, so you should put that online, too.
