Anyone know anything about this site?
www.uknova.com (http://www.uknova.com)
Might not hurt to register and put in a request for someone to record the show and upload it.
eatingfish
03-05-2007, 10:09 AM
unfortunately uknova.com only allows uploads of uk tv that aren't available commercially
Edit- found out 36th chamber & killer clans arent on dvd in UK. But still no dice because also found out uknova only allows UK made content (not foreign content on UK tv). @#%$

Hello, my first ever post, although I have been reading posts on this site for sometime, thanks for all the updates, reviews, CD Wow link, etc. Has anyone seen the week after they are showing 2 Champions of Shaolin. When I clicked into the programs from the below link, it says they both have subtitles. Although not sure if it said this for 36 Chambers.
sevenhooks
03-05-2007, 04:26 PM
Welcome Monkey King.
I beleive the subtitle listing was there for 36 Chambers as well, which is why I'm not trusting it 100% until I hear from someone who's actually seen Killer Clans or one of these other movies to know for certain.
I also saw that they played "DISCIPLES of the 36th Chamber" a couple weeks back!
Now if THAT was in english and no one even so much as noticed, I'll be pissed!
I know our British brethren are out there...
What's good??
kermit
03-05-2007, 06:36 PM
They're showing Killer Clans, Two Champions of Shaolin, Spiritual Boxer and Vengeance this month.

Now maybe someone can confirm whether or not these will be dubbed?
Monkey King 2000
03-08-2007, 11:23 AM
I have had two emails back from UKTV, the second one confirming all films will be dubbed, the first confirming what Kermit has already told us, but suggesting this is all they will be showing, as below:
In response to your query, as you know, we are currently playing a season of Shaw Brothers films on Friday nights at 9.00pm on our channel.
We recently played the 36th Chamber of Shaolin on Friday night just gone. This hasn't been rescheduled at present, but we will be showing it again at some point in 2007.
On Friday 8th March, we will be showing Killer Clans.
The following week, on the 16th March, we will be showing the Two Champions of Shaolin.
The 23rd March brings The Spiritual Boxer to our channel.
And it all ends on the 30th March, when we will be screening Vengeance.
Yes, all the Shaw Brothers films will be dubbed in English.
If you are like me, you will now have to check UKTV each week, until they replay 36 Chambers, I hope this will be soon!!

They may be new English dubs in some cases but who knows?
Now if UK Gold got these, why the hell didn't a UK DVD distributor make the effort?

I discovered the screening of 36th Chamber purely by accident while I was looking for something to watch on Friday evening.. an was surprised and shocked to find that 36th Chamber was showing!
Luckily I have sky+ and recorded it!
Its the Celestial print with the classic English dub.. what shocked me the most was that the English dub sounded absolutely mint!!! Ive never heard a classic English dub sound so good!! The dub had obviously been remastered and was presented in all its mono glory! It was near perfect, no hiss at all!! Unlike the horrid UNREMASTERED loud snake hissing dub on the Images Legendary Weapons release! Thaw was just taking the piss man..! I hope future Image releases have clean remastered classic English dubs!
Hopefully ill be recording all the Shaw Bros season. If anyone wants me to rip them onto DVD just drop me an email and im sure we can work out a trade.

cause they're stupid. All the "dub heads" are drooling right now I know. :) As for why Image doesn't have them. My guess is that these were recently remastered. I know they weren't given an option on cleaned up tracks.

I've heard a rumour that Momentum Asia might have another go at releasing their Shaw Brothers catalogue.
Maybe people should email them and tell them how much they want these dubs and how theyre obviously available.
Make them realise that they can make some money if they get the English dubs on their DVDs.
Ninja Sinai

If Momentum Asia do ever decide to have a go at releasing Shaw Bros movies again.. I really hope they have better designed sleeves man!
The ones they used for their Shaw titles were just UGLY and horrid!!
Some of the worst sleeves I’ve ever seen in fact..

Let's hope so. Anamorphic transfers and optional English dubs at a reasonble price would be great - plus we'd gain from genuine PAL picture, rather than the PAL-NTSC conversions. Hooray!
Markgway
03-08-2007, 08:06 PM
I really hope Momentum reissue anamorphic versions of the first batch they put out (ie. Spiritual Boxer and Heroes Two). I would buy them if they get it right (ie. original mono).

Jesus. The possiblilties are starting to freak me out.
Not to give anyone any ideas (not like they need em), but I would hope some smart labels get on the ball and start releasing some of these titles w/the dubs before the bootleggers get to em.
Hate to say it, but how long do you think it will be before an english dubbed Spiritual Boxer shows up on eBay?
Momentum (and Siren?) had the chance.

For the first few batches, did Celestial avoid anamorphic?
killer meteor
03-09-2007, 11:37 PM
Yes they did, but genuine anamorphic versions of some of the earlier films were made for the French DVDs. Sadly, the Aussies made do with the old non-anamorphic masters and Momentum didn't even get Spiritual Boxer anamorphic, when the master used for HK is

The masters are anamorphic before coversion - that's why Siren got some films anamorphic. The first few anamorphic batches from IVL were non-anamorphic masters crudly blown up

Well what can I say..
The Celestial version of Killer Clans with the classic English dubbed voices that we all love.. presented in lovely remastered mono glory.
You know people.. so many DVD companies have had a chance in releasing the Shaw Classics on DVD and have always let down the fans in one way or another.. the irony is that it took a tv channel that doesn’t even specialise in the kung fu genre to show the movies that we love, in the way that we love them.
I say Momentum Asia and Image need a good slap or Thunderkick strike to their heads!!
Linn1
03-12-2007, 01:11 PM
Celestial has told them for years they don't have but a handful of the dubs, I don't think you can fault the companies too much. They can only deal with what they're told. But I think that companies in the future will be less likely to simply take them at face value. At least I hope so.
Edit-Also, I wouldn't doubt these may be newly found. They don't know what they hell the have in all honesty.

If a dub exists say, on a version taped off the telly in the early 80's, would Celestial permit its use on a legit DVD?

Thanks very much Kermit for letting us all know, I emailed UKTV after the last series to see if they were going to be screening anymore Shaw films and they never replied. I had just stopped checking their channel! Unfortunately the week after there is not another Shaw, but Twin Warriors (not a fan of these Jet Li films). Whenever they view any other Kung Fu films (like Twin Warriors) they always have the english dub. I will be very surprised if there is not an English dub tonight.

does anyone have any updates as to what othre shaw films they might show.
Question:
When they used to show these back on bbtv in the 80's, didn't the last season end without all the movies being shown. Were the 3 in this thread three of the films that were not shown? I wonder in they (uk gold) might have opium and the kf master dubbed? I think it was one of the ones not shown on bbtv, but none the less it was dubbed in english?
