My Birthday is on the 27th of Feb, but forget about that too, as I'll be down my local Chinatown as early as Feb 15th/16th to pick up a copy of Black Lizard at full price! :eek The rest can wait until my birthday! ;)

Hi killer meteor
The stars are Wu Yuan-chun & Hui Tien-chi in this 1979 John Lo Mar-directed film.

Who are the stars of Five Superfighters?
Yeah, like Ivy said.
Excellent, straight-ahead kung fu flick Killer! Definitely get it!!
A nice bookend to Monkey Kung Fu/Stroke of Death.
One only wishes Lo Mar would've directed more kung fu flicks for Shaw.
One of the Shaw "holy grails" is an unfinished Lo Mar-directed actioner called "Magnificent Spearman" which stars a lot of the same cast as 5 Superfighters (including Hui Ying Hung's brother Hui Tien Chi, who, if I recall from an older post correctly, injured his back pretty badly during filming, which is what caused production to shut down).

Hi, can anyone tell me anything about the Feb releases? I already have Five Superfighters, Disciples Of Shaolin and Opium And Kung Fu Master, which I definitely will be rebuying. But what about Full Moon Scimitar, Brothers Five and the rest fron Karlos' list. Are they straight up Kung Fu movies and are they worth getting? Just in case I'm being a little vague when I say "straight up Kung Fu movies" I mean are they like the 3 I mentioned above? Thanks for any replies in advance.

I must admit I hate choosing between films I haven't seen because I always seem to pick the wrong one.
I bought RENDEZVOUS WITH DEATH after reading the hype and was disappointed. I should've gone with TRILOGY OF SWORDSMANSHIP I bet!
I can't buy everything though... can I??

4 riders-not straight up KF.Military setting.
Ti lung..been awhile i think David chiang, chi kuan chun, and chen kuan tai star also.guns,knives,fists.
Jade Rashka-Late 60's swordplay starring cheng pei-pei.Good if you like the time period.
Barefooted Kid-late 80's w/ Ti lung.Have it but not watched it yet, looks like modern punching kicking.
Full moon scimitar-not seen, but if i am a betting man its another wuxia novel adaptation in the likes of Clans of intrigue, web of death, killer clans..etc
hope some of this helps Dirty Ho.
My memory is a bit foggy now, some maybe some others can fill in the blanks.

four rider starred the usual suspects: ti lung, david chiang, wang chung and chen kuan tai. Also chang cheh added his favorite leading ladies ching li(my favorite shaw bros actress) and lily li. Like barsader said it is in military setting and drama like. pretty good.

There wasn't a lot "wrong" with 'Rendezvous' per se. It just didn't add up to much. It's not something I would desire to sit thru again. Would've worked better with a stronger lead actor mind you. It's on my trade list if anyone wants mine.

The Barefooted Kid is a remake of Fu Sheng's flick, Disciples of Shaolin, and very 90's in execution (lots of wirework and melodrama) - the one and only Ti Lung, Maggie Cheung and Aaron Kwok star.
Just picked up the Mainland Chinese DVD which is ridiculously cheap and it's a nice film. It was a big seller on video here in the UK back in the early 90's and it's great to see it again. Recommended.
Four Riders I cannot wait to see! :D

Does the (HD) mean HD ONLY or as well as standard DVD?
killer meteor
01-06-2007, 08:48 PM
I'm assuming it means the DVD is sourced from an HD master rather than a standard video one - which hopefully will mean the end of these shoddy standards conversions. I hope that's it - and not an evil conspiracy to get us to buy HD sets!

I think it's just a typo.
It's seems as though "Brothers Five" took the place of "Five Superfighters" on Feb.15.

Brothers Five, a HD title, has always been slated for a Feb 15 release. Looks like 5 Superfighters has been removed from the Feb release schedule. Celestial says sometimes they do this when they have problems with the remastering as in the case of Lily Ho's The Brain Stealers and the horror classic Black Magic 2. But they are still coming out albeit delayed.

I dont see the point in buying a 5 Superfigthers Celestial, if you got the dub then thats all you need to see, I doubt it would be any better remastered. The villian is still the same dull villian.

But simplicity works in this case.
Ti Lung in a lean, classic pose - looking VERY young for 1984.

The covers are typical of what we've seen in general for these releases. Could be better but at least they aren't as bad as say the Ground Zero covers.
I've been basically waiting since day one of these releases for Disciples of Shaolin. I've put up with the screwed up audio and other silly issues for that one release. That was the second Shaw Brothers film that I saw back in day on TV under the name Invincible One. The first was The Flying Guillotine. Disciples of Shaolin is probably my favorite Fu Sheng film. Gets me everytime I watch it.

" Full Moon Scimitar "
I read the book also saw the movie and the tv-series of - Full Moon Scimitar.
It's been a long time, but I still remember the weapon - The Scimitar. This is one of the famous novel by Gu Long. The Crescent shape Blade is very unique and it could open up into two blades shape like a " S " It can be throw out and it swings back.
The plot is about a young man holds a page of a secret sword technique and destined to become the best by challenging all the good swordsman. One of the swordsman afraid of defeat and sets up a trap by using a beautiful woman and stole the secret sword technique page and defeated the young man.
The ran away and defeated Young man some how wondering into a secret place of the cult. He married the cult masters daughter and was given the Full Moon Scimitar and its techniques. He then went back out and avenged his enemy.
I hope I remembered correctly.

Hi Vorvadoss
How does DDDhouse send out the DVDs?
Do they use a bubbled envelope like Yesasia or a box like CD WOW? Buyoyo just wrapped my DVDs in plain brown paper which caused the discs to all become loose and scratched.
While DDDhouse has lowered the price of the Celestial DVDs to HK$76 each, Yesasia has increased the price to US$15.99 which is exorbitant!

Pre-ordered with DDDhouse but having problems with them. Despite having charged my credit card successfully, DDDhouse wants me to fax them scans of my credit card, front and back.
This is not possible as I was using a virtual card for Internet shopping.
Do you guys undego this hassle when shopping online?
Johnny from DDDhouse tells me it is necessary for first-time purchasers from Asia as there is a lot of Internet fraud. I asked him to reverse the charges and I will send payment by Paypal.
My shopping experience with DDDhouse is not turning out so well after all. Maybe I will stick to Yesasia despite the increased costs.

There's something about any card that's not a Visa. A friend of mine at a mail order place told me about it years ago after I had some hassles. And sure enough, when I started using Visa, I never had the problem again. Now it's not a big deal though, at least I thought that was the case. They use PAYPAL???!
