I loved the sequences during the opening credits of the Old School flicks! super:cool: These are my faves:
- HOT, COOL & VICIOUS
- CHALLENGE OF DEATH
- THE EAGLE'S KILLER
- INVINCIBLE ARMOR
- THE LEG FIGHTERS
- THE EAGLE'S CLAW

How about yours?

Monkey kung Fu
Leg Fighters

I love the opening sequence of 3 Evil Masters aka The Master, with Chen Kuai Tai and Wang Lung Wei. The way the film opens and the fight ensues is a thriller. Also The Opening to Delightful Forest, Ti Lung ripping into Lau Kar Yung with wreckless abandon. A very intense fight resulting in a most brutal killing to open a film.

Btw, I understand these are Shaw selections, however, they are still two of the best opening sequences ever.

Special shout out to Jackie Chan:

Shaolin Wooden Men
Snake in Eagles Shadow
Drunken Master (Though not Jackie but Hwang Cheng Li in opening)
Snake and Crane Arts of Shaolin

For old school flicks, these title sequences aren't bad.

I love those opening sequences where the star(s) were filmed in a studio with a red, yellow, white, blue, etc., light shining on them. Or the title sequences with someone training in an open field/mountainside.

My favorites include:

Disciples of Shaolin
Crystal Fist
The Hot, the Cool, and the Vicious
Fighting Ace (Kid's Ace in the Hole)
The Invincible Armour
36th Chamber of Shaolin
Kid with the Golden Arm
Duel of the 7 Tigers
The Leg Fighters (Invincible Kung Fu Legs)
Challenge of the Masters
Heroes Two
Warriors Two
The Five Venoms
My Young Auntie

And many others...

Odd Couple
36th Chamber of Shaolin
Disciples of the 36th Chamber
Snake in the Eagle's Shadow
The Hot, the Cool and the Vicious
Executioners from Shaolin
Invincible Armour (!)

Basicly anything that starts with a demonstration of shapes and style.
Also, I wish this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m22NECVD_dE was the opening to my Knockabout DVD. It's just a promo reel, right?

How could I forget! It's not a classic movie, I know, but I HAVE to mention Once Upon a Time in China.
This was the first "real" kung fu flick saw, and the intro simply spellbound me.

Mine would have to be the opening for Warriors Two featuring Leung Kar Yan and Cassanova Wong in the bamboo forest. The voice over that goes with it just polishes the whole thing off nicely! ;)

Judgement Of An Assassin's a favourite, absolute perfection start - pushes the film completely steamtraining it immediate; the rest's very nice, but doesn't live up to the expects from that off, I feel. Lion Vs Lion is also nice for the start.

Disciples Of Shaolin's probably my number one. The eventual music swell combined with that celluloid gets me like a motherfucker every time.

Snake and Crane Arts of Shaolin
Half a Loaf of Kung Fu was a funny opening sequence especially the "Jesus on the cross" reference and Jackie taking on a 1-foot long wooden dummy!!!
Snake in the Eagle's Shadow
The Eagle's Killer where both John Chang and Hwang Jang-Lee showed their skills
Snake in the Monkey's Shadow

These are my favorites...

My absolute favorite is the animated opening for Showdown at the Cotton Mill. It's so original, and the movie theme is really loud and get's you pumped.

The other two live-action faves are Legendary Weapons of China and Challenge of the Masters.

Here's my favorites:

The Master (3 Evil Masters) - easy the best opening ever from the dialogue to the action
The Hot, the Cool & the Vicious - seeing those three display their unique styles was awesome
Masked Avengers - that haunting music set up the 1st scene perfectly
Duel of the 7 Tigers - another awesome display of many different styles
Dirty Ho - cool start with Gordon Liu/Wong Yu opposing those soldiers
Executioners of Shaolin - starts with great fight between Pai Mai and the monk San Te

I kinda liked the opening for 'Martial Club', with Lau Kar Leung talking about lion dancing etiquette while Gordon Liu and Robert Mak is performing in the background. Was kinda pleasant compared with the darker openings like in Executioners of Shaolin. :)

The opening for Drunken Monkey was pretty dope as well. Possibly the best part of the movie. True classic shaw style.

The opening credits are kinda similiar, but the movie is actually pretty bad. If you are a hardcore kung fu fan you may like it. THere are some good fights with Gordon vs Chien Yuet San and Eagle Han. And there is a one armed guy in the movie.

And if you like Shaolin Drunken Monk, be sure to check out its companion piece, Fury in the Shaolin Temple (which is another bad movie:D).

Will do my utmost to avoid such errors of judgement in future. So as to avoid giving reason for yours {any1 else's} disapproval. As you really don't strike me as the sort of person I would want to engage in any sort of banter {properly visa versa} with. So hopefully you will have no reason to voice opinions on any subject I may comment on/ raise in the future. And if you do ill simply ignore them, say what you like obviously {freedom of speech etc} but as to trying to rile annoy/put me off etc I'll quote my K-FU hero Bruce Lee "Don't waste yourself" .Once again sorry.

Nice choices Old Skool17 . Morgoth a fair few there I ain't seen. But yer love the NITDD one {great tune } and the MOTFG brilliant opening and theme {they sampled it briefly in Kill Bill} And Bravery cheers for comments but the guy's entitled to take certain things seriously if he wants to ,he's obviously very passionate about the genre/forum and probably thinks who's this joker posting old stuff/ silliness and as our Icons/names would suggest were defiantly not similar characters so may not exactly get on have similar views etc. But its been cool chattin with some fans on here so ill be trying to stick to some guidelines as while the novelty factor will ware off a bit soon and overdoing threads comments will fade I'm sure its a forum ill be checking out for a long time.

Both OUATIC 1 & 2 do have the training sequence on the beach, the difference are before getting to the beach training, in Pt 1 - Lion dance on the boat (sub version) then beach training, the dub version just starts with the beach training & in Pt 2 - White Lotus Cult training then Jet on train & beach training.

The Man From Hong Kong, with Wang Yu at the academy training the cadets, and the intro song "Sky High" strikes up... It's one of the best theme songs ever for a MA flick.

I love Bruce Lee's openings, especially:
FIST OF FURY
WAY OF THE DRAGON

One of my favourite openings but it just before the credits is Twinkle, Twinkle Lucky Stars the bit where it talks about wars, space shuttles ect & then said 'However, none of these has anything to do with the story that follows.' lol:)

Drunken Monkey...

because it was in 2002/2003 and it had that classic Shaw brothers opening to it from the 70's/80's!!! Loved the vintageness!

for me, regardless if there is fighting in the opening credits, it has to have a good tune....kinda like a spaghetti western (believe it or not, that is how i know if the movie is going to be good, so far im not wrong...yet)

all the bruce lee films had KILLER opening tunes.
snake in eagles shadow is great because of the music AND jackie's forms

also...life of a ninja has and awesome opening sequence. ninjas and chicks mud-wrestling. who could ask for more?

Game of Death's opening title sequence was pretty cool with the games of chance themes centered around the clips of Lee and Norris' colosseum battle.

I think it's very much like a Bond opening.

Not to mention having John Barry compose the score...!

Snake and Crane Arts of Shaolin had a cool intro with Jackie showing off his weaponry skills. Snake in the Eagles Shadow is still my favourite with Jackie performing his snake style with the trippy music in the background.

Shaolin Drunken Monk is no keeper, but is at least a must-see if you're like me and need to watch something hilariously awful now and then to put a smile on your face.

Since I can't recall many at the moment, just a couple to point out that music makes the intro in my case for the most part: Dirty Ho and The Master. I'd love to get that music; I know the former is available at least.

Special mention to Life Gamble: never caught this flick until recently, and the titles were impressive. Everyone's perfectly still, and mostly dead serious, with all the beautiful flags and that well-known "Holy Grail" music playing. Made the film look very ambitious.

Mine would be...

Shaolin Martial Arts
Shaolin Avengers
Heroes Two
36th Chamber of Shaolin
Legendary Weapons of China

Thats all I can think of now.

Does anyone know another opening sequence in a film like Death Games? A modern day action movie with an oldschool series of fights/demonstration in the beginning?

Snake in the Eagles Shadow is still my favourite with Jackie performing his snake style with the trippy music in the background.

the song is by Space: Magic Fly (http://www.google.com/url?q=http://s0.ilike.com/play%23Space:Magic%2BFly:1040338:m35807957&sa=X&ei=rRg_TL3MG4K88gb_mMCDCw&ved=0CBMQ0wQoADAA&usg=AFQjCNFVVrzK_3MK8F7dm6QSUUvRfax6Mw)

One of my favorites is Shaolin Rescuers and of course Shaolin v WuTang.

There's something about the opening of Disciples of Shaolin with all that time devoted to Fu Sheng's moves on that near-empty Shaw "sound"stage! One can't help but be sentimental over watching the guy at his (arguably) physical peak doing Hung Fist movements even better than he did on the "3 Styles" featurette! He was taken from us too soon.

Mine would be (off the top of my dome)...

Warriors Two = training in a bamboo forest...you can't beat that

3 Evil Masters = you got a kung fu master chillin to the fullest extent waitin for three clowns to make his day

Shaolin vs. WuTang = expelled student feeelin like he's been hated on

Executioners From Shaolin = time for justice; time for revenge

Buddhist Fist = clan vs clan

Duel of the Seven Tigers = individuals showcasing the skills

The Sentimental Swordsman = one smooth dude ('nuff said)

What Price Survival = any opening with David Chiang is definitely an opening

That's the opening from the English version where they had to change the music. This one is the original:
