I have a Sony DRX-810UL fairly new, ive heard people explain how sometimes the DVD-R burner burns
out on them. Is there anything i can do to increase longevity of a DVD-R burner? I noticed it gets really
hot after im done burning 3 or more discs. Very hot in fact.
Thanks

dvd burners normally last about 6 to 12 months depending on how much burning you do
i have gone through 2 in the last year
first telltale sign you won,t be able to copy cd,s with it
then dvd,s start corrupting in mid burn and you sometimes have to do 2 or 3 copies before it burns 1 disc

Don't know much about it to be honest but I use a Pioneer 108 and have had it for about 3 years now and have burnt thousands and I do really mean thousands of DVD-Rs with it without any problems at all.

Well the reason i wrote that post is because of people telling me that they're DVD-R burners have
broken down on them most times in the middle of a burn. I know these people are traders @ times
burning 20-30 discs in a single trade. I imagine thats a lot of wear on your DVD-R burner if you do it
straight out like that. I noticed my DVD-R burner gets pretty damn hot, in fact it get REAL Hot. mine is
external Sony DRX-810UL so i can just touch it. If it's that hot from the outside Imagine how hot it must
be inside. Since then i have been burning with more intermittence. If i have to burn like 10-15 for ex: i put
on a movie and come back everyonce in a while during the movie to switch it out. That might sound a little
odd but really it isnt at all. Seeing as how the DVD burner gets SO HOT i cant imagine this precaution being
anything but a plus! ++++++++

suprisingly, my Lite-on dvd drive has outlasted everything. It was the cheapest little piece of crap i could find... 40$.
What i have set up is two dvd drives. The top with my Lite-on and the bottom with my phillips dvd drive. The top is dedicated to ripping only, the bottom is dedicated to burning only.
I experienced some trouble with the phillips a few weeks ago, but took it apart and was able to fix it and put it back in. No problems since then.
I've been using this setup for almost 2 years now.

What about storage? What do you guys use? I cant seem to come to a final descion and so i have
hundreds of Paper Sleeves stacked with DVD-R in them. Recommendations ? I know somebody
has something cool but boy im telling you it has to hold litterally hundreds of DVD. So what do you use?

For the DVD's themselves I use 2 of these:
www.supermediastore.com/c...acity.html (http://www.supermediastore.com/cd-dvd-storage-case-aluminum-metal-like-600-capacity.html)
The reason I have two of these instead of one big case is because I have a leather couch with 2 matching ottomans similar to this:
www.ottomans.com/storage-...key=FLT004 (http://www.ottomans.com/storage-ottomans/rectangle/products.cfm?action=view&key=FLT004)
The DVD cases referenced above fit perfectly in storage ottomans similar to what I linked to.
I store the plastic DVD cases in one of these:
www.rubbermaid.com/rubber...Prod150028 (http://www.rubbermaid.com/rubbermaid/product/product.jhtml?prodId=HPProd150028)
I stack the plastic DVD cases in columns within the Rubbermaid container.

All mine go into Aluminium DJ cases that hold 1000 discs per case, the covers go into plastic wallets which then go into binders and the actual plastic case either gets dumped or given to someone that needs them.

I store my dvds the same as Fabe, with close to 5000 dvds it's better for me. As far as burners go, Hands down Pioneer and Nec. I still have my very first Pioneer a04 2x burner and it still burns( of course I don't use the old thing) I've upgraded to a D111. I've burned 1,000s of dvds and never had 1 problem with either Pioneers. My Nec is the same way. Not a problem ever. Personally I'd never buy anything else.

Since the dawn of filmaking have there really been 5000 movies even made?
Anyways thanks for the advice. I like magicpoe's idea and have bookmarked that link for future ref.
