The Image of Bruce Lee (1978):
This one starts with Bruce Li scaling a building in a familiar striped yellow track suit. He then tries to save a man who is about to commit suicide, but finds out too late that the man has a prosthetic arm! So much for holding on.
The rest of the film deals with illegal money printing being facilitated by the baddy from The Big Boss and Bolo Yeung. The fights really aren't that bad, but the sound fx are crap - it's those carpet duster sounds. Bruce Li, Bolo, and some of the other characters get a lot of chance, random encounters and fighting which ultimately leads to a face-off with Han Chieh Yin and his son.
There's also a dojo-demolishing scene: it's so so. Should've been a lot better for such a late effort, not Bruce Li Ho Tsung To's best work.

Bolo is awesome in Image of Bruce Lee!!
Here are a couple of Bruceploitation reviews-
BRUCE AND SHAOLIN KUNG FU- horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE!!! I don't think i have ever seen worse fight choreography. Bolo looks so bad I think my little sister could take him. Rating- 0/5
BRUCE AND SHAOLIN KUNG FU 2- even worse than part 1!! How the hell is that even possible?! Kind of funny at times because it is so cheesy, but Eagle Han's short fight was the only thing I liked about this movie. It is a crappy fight, but always nice to see Eagle Han kick.

Bruce Lee: The Man, The Myth (1976)
Wonderful effort by Ng See Yuen who'd go on to make even better films under his Seasonal banner. A fictionalised account, with about 5 minutes dialogue and then a fight scene, repeated over and over again. Good formula!
The fights are pretty good, and Bruce Li can pull it off quite handsomely. One fight is particularly bad, when he fights the British captain. The guy extends his arm long before he starts running toward Bruce! It looks like those old, clumsy westerns. One or two more focused fights would have been good, instead you have a bunch of above-average fights, but nothing really special.
The film tries to pass itself off as fact-- but far from it!

Bruce Lee Fights Back from the Grave
In 1977, Hong Kong, Korean, and Italian producers made this cheapo martial arts production to capitalize on the Bruce Lee genre simply known as "Bruceploitation". What is insane here is the fact that "Bruce Lee" is not even involved in the film, except for a fake grave that is struck by lightning in the opening.
The star of the film is credited as "Bruce K.L. Lea". It is unknown what the "K.L." stands for, but the true identity of this Bruce-alike is none other than Taekwondo Grandmaster Jun Chong. Chong also serves as martial arts director and he stands out at showcasing his impressive TKD skills.
There is also the major rumor of the director Lee Doo-Yong. Some sources have said that the true identity of the director was Italian giallo filmmaker Umberto Lenzi. However, in 1988, the name Lee Doo-Yong appeared as a director on Jun Chong's 1988 action film Silent Assassins. So whether this name is a true "pseudonym" is unknown and remains to this day unknown.
The plot is pretty standard for a kung fu film. Chong plays Wong Han, a martial artist who goes to Los Angeles to find his old friend had committed suicide. Upon invetigating his death, he finds an ally in a woman named Susan, played by Deborah Chaplin Dutch. He learns that his old friend had been approached by five fighters, including an early appearance from Sho Kosugi. Chong takes all five fighters on to learn the truth. However, is all as it truly seems?
The trailer for the film was described as Bruce Lee coming back from the dead after making a deal with the "Black Angel of Death". The real film is exactly the opposite of what the trailer describes, yet a surprising yet predictable twist in the end makes this, aside from Chong's martial arts skills, the only reasons worth seeing this film in the first place.

In a recent interview Lenzi denies any involvement with this movie. He has been asked this in the past but he said he had nothing to do with it.

Thanks for the confirmation, venoms5. I had a suspicion that LDY was an actual person because of the credit on Silent Assassins, which also starred Chong.

I only found that out sometime last year. It kind of takes the fun out of it now, though after wondering if the director of EATEN ALIVE! and NIGHTMARE CITY had actually directed a kung fu movie. I think what led to the speculation was one of his pseudonyms Humphrey Humbert, I believe, was attached to the film. I've never seen it from beginning to end as it was pretty bad.

Does this enjoy some kind of cult status?Only nasty scene is where man gets himself sliced open but just 2 seconds or so internal orgains are shown, unfortunately.

Yes, it is a cult film and there's more than one gruesome scene in it. A number of the gore scenes are lifted from other cannibal movies. There's also another EATEN ALIVE directed by Tobe Hooper from 1976.

Didn't have what? The lifted gore scenes from other films? Every print I've seen of it has them. It would be an awfully short movie if it didn't. I'll look at it again.
Lenzi was asked about this too and he said these scenes were purchased by the producer for insertion into the existing film although he didn't seem to want to discuss this at all.
Sorry to go off topic. Maybe there should be a discussion about these things in the cult section?

Don't worry I'll bring it back on topic ;)
Kung Fu Avengers (1976) aka Soul Brothers of Kung Fu.
I liked this film. Bruce Li and Lo Meng emigrate to Hong Kong and find work at a construction site where Li meets young Carl Scott (in his film debut). Scott trains in kung fu from Li and the two become good friends. Meanwhile, Lo becomes upset about both money and Li's girlfriend and as a result, Lo becomes the right hand man of crime lord Ku Feng.
The fight scenes were great IMO. Carl Scott definitely showcased his skills in leopard style kung fu (he was a protege of Leung Siu-Chung, the uncle of Bruce Leung and Tony Leung Siu-Hung) and kenpo karate (protege of Steve Sanders). The version I saw (the Xenon boot release) had two alternate endings.

Bruce the Superhero
Bruce Le, one of the famous Bruce-alikes, stars, produces, choreographs, and directs this pretty decent Hong Kong action film shot in the Philippines thanks to his supporting cast of veteran kung fu stars and Filipino actors.
Le plays Bruce Chang, a kung fu expert who has learned his sister is dead. Before she died, Susan was the keeper to a treasure map that was held in the hilt of a samurai sword. When members of the Double Lighting gang assaulted her, she got help from Filipino boxer Rocky Robeldo (Lito Lapid), but it was too late. However, Rocky did receive a key that was to be given to Bruce. When Interpol learns of the treasure and plans to protect it from the Double Lightning gang, they send Agent Platinum (Azenith Briones) to befriend Rocky. Meanwhile, the Double Lightning gang have allied themselves with the Black Dragon gang and two warriors, Peter Sze (Bolo Yeung) and Kong (Chiang Tao), the latter who has a grudge against Bruce. Together, Bruce, Rocky, and Agent Platinum must find the treasure and take on all who stand in their way to make sure it stays safe.
With a film title such as Bruce the Superhero, it is pretty much clear what you are intending to watch. It is also true that Bruce-alike Bruce Le has done some pretty trashy films. Unlike some of his more exploitative films, this is a routine modern day kung fu film with barely any gratuitous nudity to enhance the film. Instead, Le went from square one and released a ballsy action film revolving around a treasure map and together with a Filipino boxer, a kung fu master must avenge his sister's death and protect the treasure at the same time. Another reason why this stands out from some of Le's other fare is that he makes good use of the budget in terms of location. Shot in the Philippines, Le was able to cast local talent from there as his co-stars as well as two veteran kung fu stars. Bolo Yeung plays the "Bull-Killer" while Chiang Tao, a Shaw Brothers actor, plays a kung fu expert who holds a grudge against Le for a match that happened years ago.
Filipino boxer turned politician Lito Lapid plays Rocky, a young fighter who helps Bruce on his mission. At times, he has no idea what he has gotten himself into, but when needed, his lightning fists do the talking. Eye candy for the film comes in the form of Filipino beauty pageant winner Azenith Briones, who plays the oddly named "Agent Platinum". Going undercover as a reporter, she helps Rocky and Bruce but to be honest, she doesn't really help much. She plays more of a victim than anything and she wasn't really needed in the film as her part was only a second fiddle.
Le actually crafted some pretty interesting action sequences that makes this one of his best films. Not only does Le use his skills in kung fu, but he utilizes the martial arts skills of Chiang Tao and Bolo Yeung. Furthermore, rather than teach Lito Lapid how to kick, he has Lapid show off his impressive boxing skills by making him a lightning fisted fighter who takes on whoever stands in his way. Action wise, the only disappointment comes in the form of the showdown between Le and Yeung. It was a little too short and set up for a more longer battle between Le and Chiang, which has its ridiculous moments. However, as a Bruceploitation fan, the ridicule is what is expected.
Bruce the Superhero is definitely one of the better Bruce Le films made, thanbks to the combination of adequate action and star power in both Hong Kong and the Philippines.

Awesome. I have seen Man and Myth and The Superhero. I add:
Game of Death II. Game of Death was a Bruce-sploitation movie itself, what with the way it was finished and featuring tricks to make Bruce appear in unfinished scenes. Game of Death II is a hoot, stitching several scenes from different movies and even news footage into the narrative, redubbing it, and letting it all flow together. Stars Tang Long as "Bobby Lo" and is well worth it for some excellent Yuen Woo-ping fight scenes. Even if some of them are ridiculous.

I'm currently going through a bit of a Bruceploitation phase. I've just watched "The Dragon Lives Again", a film that easily falls into the so-bad-it-is-actually-quite-good category.

anyone a fan of bruce li in 'the iron dragon strikes back'? it was for a time public domain and only $1 to purchase, however it seems to be out of print and my copy was eaten by my dog. i guess she thinks low budget kung fu is tasty.
but the movie itself was a COMPLETE suprise. and the fight with bruce li and phillip ko fei at the end is one of my top ten of all times. watch it on youtube every month or so

I liked IDSB as well, a little more darker and gritty than the usual KF flick. The original title for the film is The Gold Connection. Nice use of the flashing camera at the end. :D

"The Gold Connection" is a great film. Dark and very gritty. It was made at a time when Bruce Li was tryng to get away from the Bruceploitation films, and it works pretty well. He was even starting to go under his Taiwanese name of Ho Chung Tao by then. That end fight in the apartment with the camera flashing is brilliant. "The Chinese Stunt Man" is a decent film with him in too, but not as in your face.

I've watched a few more Bruceploitation since I last visited......
"Bruce Lee - True Story" 3.5/5
Well it's actually Bruce Li, and the story has nothing at all to do with anything that happened to the real Bruce Lee in this typically action packed Bruceploitation. The AKA's are almost endless and include "Story Of The Dragon", "A Dragon's Story", "Bruce Li's Jeet Kin Do" and "He's A Legend, He's A Hero" to name a few. There is even a UK release that has the simple title of "The Bruce Lee Story" and includes a nunchuka sequence cut from but available as an extra on the rental version I saw. What makes this a bit more interesting is the familiar faces in the cast. Carter Wong, Roy Horan and Paul Wei Ping Ao (A regular in Bruce Lee's films.) are all fine, but for me it is the appearance of the magnificent Hwang Jang Lee as a fighter brought in to teach Bruce a lesson by the baddies that makes this well worth seeing.
"Goodbye Bruce Lee - His Last Game Of Death" 2.5/5
Bruce Li stars in another Bruceploitation film, but this one has a bigger budget than most of them and the DVD has been nicely cleaned up and is presented in glorious widescreen. Shame really, as the film is barely average at best. The final thirty minutes tries to recreate the end of "Game Of Death" right down to Bruce Li being in yellow track suit, but there is no sense of style and quite frankly the choreography is poor. Bruce Li made far better films than this one that have been treated with less respect. I generally love the Bruceploitation films, mainly because they are fun despite their numerous faults. This film is just not that much fun.
"Enter The Game Of Death" 2/5
This Bruceploitation starring the decidedly average Bruce Le bases a large chunk of it's action in a tower just like the intention of the original "Game Of Death". If only the fights were half as interesting this would be passable. As it stands this is certainly action packed, but the non stop action actually gets pretty boring after a while. Bolo appears as one of the villains yet again.
"The Ninja Strikes Back" (AKA Bruce Strikes Back) 1.5/5
One mess of a movie that does have some good points. Mainly it makes you laugh a lot (all unintentional) and it features Hwang Jang Lee. Bruce Le takes the lead in this one that goes international with scenes filmed in France and Italy. The finale fight takes place in the Coliseum just like "Way Of The Dragon". The plot makes time to fit in nudity whenever possible and surprise surprise! Bolo turns up as one of the villains. The music cues in the film are also quite humorous.
All in all I am finding the Bruce Le films to be far less interesting than Bruce Li's. Plenty more on my rental list to come. ;)

OK, I finally sat down and watched Game Of Death II. And well, I have to say I liked it better than Game Of Death. Yes, it did not have Kareem in it, it didn't have the great Bruce nunchuku scene, but the story and acting was better, and the action was more fun. At least to me. This movie while also a sequel to Game of Death, was also a Tribute to Bruce, with it's many scenes. In a way, how the Billy Lo character was played, it was like it was a documentary on Bruce, or that Bruce was playing Bruce, but in a fistional setting, but with snippets of reality in it. Anyway, I really like this. And the picture and sound was great, in the DVD set from Bruce Lee Ultimate Collection.

It is a better film than "Game Of Death" - which is not difficult really considering what Hollywood did to it. Hwang Jang Lee is great as the villain and Yuen Biao doubles for most of the acrobatic moves in the final fight.

Last night I pulled out my Ultimate Dragon Collection on Videoasia. I had only watched one film off it so far... Kung Fu Superman(if I recall the title right). Well last night I watched Return of the Fist of Fury, with Bruce Pak.
Well, the movie was OK. About Korean/Japanese conflict, where the heroes brother was killed as a patriot, and then he came and took his place. Action scenes were OK, I thought. The dub was standard for that time. The girl was really hot though.
Worst thing about it was the very soft image old VHS pan and scan transfer.
Not a high rewatchablity factor... but who is that hotty?
Chosen One
Cold Blooded Murder;
The movies stars Bruce Le, CWM and Carter Wong. The movies is about a crazy cold blooded murder that kills prostitutes. The killer is CWM. Carter Wong and Bruce Le are police officers and they have to bring this fool to court, dead or alive ;)
Nah but it was actually a very entertaining modern day Le flick, I enjoyed it. Funny thing was also that Kong Do and Bolo Yeung appeard in the beginning of the movie getting their asses beaten by Bruce and then they have almost nothing to do with the rest of the movie except that they appear in the endfight again :D
Favourite quote from the movie when the badboys don't get as they want: "It's that damn Bruce again"
I would give it 4/5 stars after my Bruceploitation standards :)

Fist Of Fury 2
For me, this is hands down the best Bruceploitation film ever made and I'm sure most people will find that statement debatable.
Firstly, it does a pretty incredible job of keeping the feel of the first film, mainly because many of the cast reprised their roles for this film and the set design is actually pretty damn good, including a loving recreation of the Ching Wu school.
http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/3880/wsreviewsample01pd5.jpg
Secondly, Bruce Li does an excellent job as Chen Zhens angry revenge driven brother, Chen Shen.
He remains calm and composed throughout, but at time loses his rag and dishes out some kung fu punishment.
The rest of the cast fill their respective roles perfectly, including the cowardly japanese interpretor and his boss Miyamoto, played by Lo Lieh.
The fight scenes in this film are also very good and in places very brutal and hardhitting, including the scene in which Miyamoto's henchmen attack and cripple a group of chinese.
A variety of weapons are on show including swords, spears, staffs and obviously nuncakus.
http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/6823/wsreviewsample02nw6.jpg
All in all, I personally think that it has everything you need in a good kung fu film, good action scenes, good cast, good plot and a good set design.
Also worth noting is that there is a lot of good camera work in this which is completely lost in the fullscreen version of the film so try and get a widesreen print if possible. The images in this review are from a custom widescreen DVD which is in 2.10:1 aspect ratio.
All in all, an excellent entry into the bruceploitation genre with no major flaws, at least compared to most Bruce Lee clone films.

Information with the rental is mostly wrong. Many of the UK releases on DVD have different titles to the one it may have originally had. It gets a bit frustrating. Sometimes the same film with have two versions available under different titles.
I own a copy of "Bruce Lee:The Man, The Myth".

Ninja Strikes Back 4/6
-First of all.....there's only 2 ninja scenes in it ;)
-This was one of Sakatas final films & imo looks a bit tired......he prolly never saw it in cinemas before he died.
-My fav of Le's films.....those I've seen anyway.
With a budget of mere 50k I'd say they get much out of it : Rome , Paris & Hong Kong......this is Bruce Le's version of Way of the Dragon ;)
Wang Jang Lee does a fine job as Le's friend who goes over to the dark side.
Bolos cameo was pointless though.....at least give him 5 min fight scene :squigglemouth:
Bruce Le is prolly my favorite imitator......he's much better in action scenes than Bruce Li ;)

I wonder if this version uncut 100 mins or more instead the 90 -93 min versions. I have bought many different version at local stores like bestbuy, tower records, walmart, target, suncoast video, ect. And none of them seem to be the right one.

Does any body know where you can find that movie
The Real Bruce Lee starring Dragon Lee on dvd? The uncut version?
And Full screen? The closes I can find is from the following website,
http://www.dddhouse.com/v3/product_details.php?ProductID=9880
I wonder if this version uncut 100 mins or more instead the 90 -93 min versions. I have bought many different version at local stores like bestbuy, tower records, walmart, target, suncoast video, ect. And none of them seem to be the right one.
Well the Dragon Lee scenes are from a film called Last Fist of Fury.

The name of the movie you speak of is ENTER THREE DRAGONS (and I think you got the AKA right: Dragon On Fire)....

why didn't they make any Enter The Dragon clones?
The secret agent gimmick was huge around then and obviously enter the dragon played a massive impact on the kung fu genre.

Maybe the producers were scared the Warners would sue them for plagarism. There is a 'kind of' Enter the Dragon type film called 'Dragon Force' (aka Powerforce) with Bruce Li as the head of a Hong Kong kind of MI5/CIA...it's a lot of fun and some good fights too.

Tower of Death (a.k.a Game of Death II) is probably the best example for Bruceploitation film. Great fights directed by legendary Sammo Hung (Enter the Fat Dragon) will take you into the world of Kung Fu.
Plot: Billy Lo (Bruce Lee) and Chin Ku (Hwang Jang Lee) are good friends, but suddenly Chin Ku dies under the mysterious death. Billy Lo start with investigating his death, at the funeral of Chin Ku his grave was stolen and Billy dies trying to save his friends grave. Little later Billy`s brother Bobby Lo arrives to Japan and start with collecting material provements of his brothers death. Shortly after that Bobby found out that his brother is killed because he research into the secret of“Tower of Death” place that none have ever leave alive. During his research Bobby met Lewis (Roy Horan) keeper of the “Tower of Death” who told him that Tower was built 100 of feet under the earth. Next morning Lewis is found roped in his room. Bobby was tired of waiting proof to show itself, and he takes job in his hands and go to Tower where he discovers something that he has never thought that is possible!
Interesting things about movie:
·Final fight of this movie was considered to be one of the best final fights in the world of Kung Fu movies.
·Korean version of this movie have totally different plot without Bruce Lee
·Movie was filmed for 3 years (1978-1981)
·Bruce Lee does not have any connections with this movie by him self because he died 5 years before this film was filming, his footage was taken from Enter the Dragon.
·Jackie Chan was considered to play Bobby Lo, but Kim Tai Jung`s strong performance won.
·Japanese version is totally different than Korean and standard versions.
·Spanish version called “Towel Del Muerte” also have some different footage like Casanova Wong fight is removed, different footage with Abbot, some Bruce Lee scenes are removed.
·Scene when “Lion” attack Bobby is obviously fake because at the end of the scene lion kill girl with dart and run away.
·Fight scene with Casanova Wongi actually cut from movie The Game of Death
·US version called Game of Death II is same like standard but have some differences
·Hong Kong Legends realised this movie on 2007.
My opinion: This is greatest Kung Fu movie of all times for me, I rely enjoyed every time when I watched it. I saw it first time when I was about 4 on TV, I was so amazed, and later when I get into the Kung Fu world I obtain copy of movie and watch it many times. All fights are wonderful, plot is very good and acting also. Kim Tai Jung did such job that I do not think that any could do, his kicks are very strong and fast, Yuan Biao`s acrobatic performance makes movie even more shine. We cannot forget that in this movie we can find one of the greatest villains of all times Hwang Jang Lee which can be seen taking on some rely serious guys. Only thing that I don’t like in the movie is that Roy Horan eats fresh meat and drink blood saying that is good for his style. But when we count all, this is one great Kung Fu film and every fan and even not fan of Kung Fu films must see this great film.

I guess so, it didn't take long for James Bond to borrow the tournament style setting in The man with the Golden Gun..then you had that Kill and Kill again flick, oh and the super rare Men of the dragon (remember watching this on itv in the early 80's..)

Yeah i also love that one much.
We have same feelings, Roy did nice fight against those two guys, that fight is all times classic. About Hwang, well his battle with Graham Ravey is nice also in end fight with Kim Tai Jung he showed up some nice kicking abilities like always
I`m glad that you like movie

Game II wasnt all that imo......the main villain was meh , the lion fight was just stupid and insulting. Also the hero barely goes in the tower , I thought we were gonna see several more floors.
WJL does a fine job though.
