Honestly, I've only met a few people that know as much Star Trek trivia as me. It's useless, but I know alot of it. I've been a big fan since I was little.

My favorite series is TNG, my favorite trekkie movie is Star Trek: First Contact. I wasn't the same after that, that has to be my favorite Sci-Fi movie of all time  Blew me away.

I like Star Trek, but I prefer The Next Generation to other Star Trek series.

I enjoy SF shows and films in general - but above all I am a dedicated Lexx fan...;-)

As for Star Wars - the original trilogy, yesss.
About the new stuff, enthusiastic I am not...;-)

Favortie ST series is Deep Space Nine.
Favorite movie is Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn.

Not a hardcore fan, but appreciate them more as an adult, now that I can understand the characters and plots better. The original was so ahead of its time.

I've been a trekkie since the 70's. I only like the original series. I guess Deep Space 9 was ok. I'm really looking forward to the movie!

When is the next movie in the series going to be released? I have heard that none of the original actors are going to be reprising their roles.

Nimoy is going to be in the new movie as Spock last I heard. He tells the story in flashback is how it was told to me.

I only like the original series.

I agree totally with this statement. I tried watching some of the Next Generation and just couldn't get into it. Picard wants to talk about the problems but Kirk wants to fight and bluff his way through situations. Plus the attire worn by the women on the original series both human and interplanetary was more "exciting". Love the old show. None of the others compare, IMO. Ditto for STAR TREK 2: THE WRATH OF KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNN!!!!!!!!!

Data rules, more than spock
reginald barclay is a genius
picard save the universe in last episode of the seventh season
troy is hot
wesley crusher is gone YIPEE
laforge is better than scotty
riker play poker well and some jazz too
worf is worf
Q episodes are always terrible
guinan is a good waitress

TNG is my prefered series!!!

would have love to see more dsn and tng crossover, bashir and data complete well imo

Theres nooo way that sissy Picard could ever compare to Kirk! Data over Spock?! There were way more hot chicks on the original series (and Kirk banged most of them)

Didn't get better than ST:TNG Seasons 3 through 5. The best writing for any Trek. Best movies: First Contact, Wrath of Khan, Undiscovered Country. This next one with J.J. Abrams will probably be just as good i'm predicting.

Every ten years we get a Trek hit! We're overdue.

1986 - Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home grosses over 100 million dollars, helping to spawn a second television series by the name of Star Trek: The Next Generation :D

1996 - Star Trek: First Contact recieves rave reviews and also becomes a hit at the box office causing Star Trek to reach its peak popularity in the U.S. with two series running and a big flick.

2009?

Is it OPERATION: ANNIHILATE with the creatures that attach themselves to people's backs making them go insane? There's a number of episodes where characters go off the deep end due to some form of alien disease, bacteria, etc...

I have one serious problem with Kirk...
Ti Lung/Lo Meng/Clint Eastwood/some other guys being macho - that looks hot. Dunno how they do that.
Kirk being macho - looks awfully silly.
Picard is a sophisticated, smart guy that looks for alternative routes - doesn't mean he cannot kick ass when it comes to it. Not to mention he looks better...:-)
Kirk reminds me of George W. Bush, y'know... Eww.
Each time I see him I feel compelled to sing the mocking song about "John Wayne's teeth" to somehow protest against the irritating presence that is Kirk...;-) There is a dichotomy between the complex, vast universe of ST and Kirk's straightforward, often violent solutions to problems - that make it really difficult for me to accept the character's attitude and approach as...commendable.

That is not to say I dislike TOS. I like it. Even though Spock really is the only likeable (or interesting, for that matter) character on board...:-) OK, I like Scotty as well. ;)

TOS was first. it was, in many ways, revolutionary...
But TNG has better captain, better acting, better characterization... And the Borg!
And Data (and Lore).
And I grew up with it...

Isn't ARCHONS the one where the people or planet are controlled by a computer? I seem to remember this one starting off with Sulu in the street breaking up a disturbance or something. Only watched this one once and didn't care for it much. Deepdiscount has the Complete OS real cheap.

Cesare, I think you have Kirk wrong. He only resorted to violence when that was the only option left and if anybody ever looked for alternate routes to problem solving, it's Kirk. On more than one occasion he bluffed his way out of life threatening situations.

Shatner was a great actor whom I think got a raw deal from a lot of people who said he overacted too much. His theater background had a lot to do with that but really, one need only look at his performances in the groundbreaking and controversial INTRUDER (1961), his two TWILIGHT ZONE episodes and KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS (1977) among some of his credits to see the man could play a myriad of different characters and behaviors.

Operation Annihilate (airdate=4-13-67) Was the one when Spock is attacked by the parasitic creatures. These creatures are making everyone on planet Deneva insane. McCoy tries to cure Spock but ends up making him blind.

The one where people are being controlled by a computer is probably The Return of the Archons (airdate=02-09-67). At a certain time of day the citizens go berserk. The captain and crew get out of this one because Kirk and Spock pretend to have been "turned". McCoy is actually turned and fights with Kirk.

My favorite episode of the first season has to be Balance of Terror 12-15-66. It had a very compelling story and showed the raw human side of Kirk. It also made you feel for the Romulans because they were following orders. The ending was excellent when the Romulan captain says goodbye to Kirk. It was almost like a Shakespearean tragedy. Anyone have a favorite 1st season episode?

Also, I loved it when Kirk was heroic, witty, and insane. Kirk was and is the best captain. IMHO Spock was the greatest sidekick/1st mate the series ever had. He was smooth, intellectual, decisive, and saved everyones butts almost every episode.

By far, my absolute top 3 faves have ALWAYS been:

3) Miri, I know, I know, don't ask me why!

2) City on the Edge of Forever tied with Arena, because the Gorn Captain was badass :D

My absolute favorite, believe it or not, doesn't even feature Kirk. And that's the pilot, The Cage  Pike was the man, and the Talosians were one of the weirdesy, most powerfult baddies. I'd love to see them be the subject of the next Star Trek movie!

I didn't care for The Cage that much but i did enjoy it as the 2 part episode, The Menagerie.

I loved The Arena. Yes the Gorn captain was pretty cool. I was watching some special features and found out that the same company did the Gorn, Talosians, and all the other latex stuff. They made Spock's ears but the ears were too big and fake. The guy who did Spock's makeup actually paid a different company to have the ears, you see on tv, made because the studio wouldn't pay for them.

I actually met Bobby Clark, the Gorn Captain himself, last February at the NY Comic Con. Nice guy, pretty old now though.

Somebody else posted the Gorn fight on another site as the worst ever. I figure either one of two things possibly happened here, either the suit was too damn heavy for the actor to maneuver in or they intended to undercrank the scene a bit and didn't get the time.

Supposedly, according to those who worked on the shows it was quite an expensive program to put on (for back then). The show did win some awards for its visual effects. Either way, IMO, none of the other shows can hold a candle to the original. The storylines, costumes, characters and writing has stood the test of time and have an infinitely lasting appeal and charm that exceeds anything on any of the more recent offerings or at least what I've managed to see pertaining to the other ST shows.

Sifu, what an honor to be able to have met that guy. That must have been fun. What happened to star trek conventions? It seems that there has been a major decline over the years. I'm hoping that conventions pick up when the new movie comes out. I remember a decade ago you could go to any major city on any weekend and find a Star Trek convention that was solely Star Trek.

I liked the original episodes but seen them so many times back in the late 70's-80's, it's funny to see them now, Kirk looks cheesy now but he was the man back in the 60's when they made them, he was a well known actor at the time. And talking about raiding the prop storage some of the costumes were so reused, I saw an episode where the were wearing something out of the BenHur movies:p Still if I catch these on somewhere I have to watch them.

Here's a scene from Shatners roast, George Takei, better known as Sulu, and Shatner have had a 25 year fued over Shatners overblown ego, they made up and he was invited to his roast and does he ever let it sling, on everyone. He's recently out of the closet, so if your homophobic and easily offended don't go to the link (you have been warned so don't whine about it, I found it hilarious) -

Everything else is nothing but .... pyrite.

Sorry. I realize the above might irritate a few but ...
for me, there's only one ST. If it doesn't have Shatner, its not ST.

I get my fix every Sunday morning at 10AM while eating brunch.

Featuring the green-skinned temptress, Yvonne Craig who also played Batgirl/ Barbara Gordon in the Adam West series.

Man, Kirk gets all the tail. Green, purple, orange ... (sigh)

Guess with ST it's not about what's better (all that stuff is pretty good, yep, even Voyager and Deep Space Nine) but what you grew up with.
Works in my case, certainly.
I do have real *reasons* for preferring TNG - but sometimes I suspect they are just rationalizations for liking better what I grew up with.

I always enjoyed the show for its plethora of genre guest stars such as--

Jill Ireland, the then future Mrs. Charles Bronson from THIS SIDE OF PARADISE

Susan Denberg, the ill fated beauty who featured in Hammer's FRANKENSTEIN CREATED WOMAN featured as one of MUDD'S WOMEN.

Dyanne Thorne who committed career suicide for her searing and memorably disturbing portrayal of ILSA in three films and one unofficial entry. She had a minor role as a hooker in the A PIECE OF THE ACTION episode.

Vic Tayback in the same above episode as gangster Krako. Later to be cemented in stone as Mel, owner of Mel's Diner on the sitcom ALICE.

Anthony Caruso also from the above episode as Bella Oxmyx. Caruso was a regular on far too many shows and movies but frequently portrayed Indian characters on GUNSMOKE and the awesome and ahead of its time James Bond in the West series, THE WILD, WILD WEST.

And probably most famous of all, Ricardo Montalban as Khan. Another character actor television regular, Montalban is forever famous for FANTASY ISLAND and also appeared in two of the PLANET OF THE APES sequels. His role of Khan is undoubtedly one of the best villains in cinema regardless of genre.

The Bilbo Song has got to be the theme song to the Hobbit movie (if they ever start it)!

XFR-8NVjw-k

Me, I like Trek on a one time viewing only basis. I can't watch the reruns for some reason.

The Next Generation movies have been crap, with First Contact being mildly okay. Even the worst of the old crew's films were as watchable as Contact. The NG movies just felt like poorly made, extended episodes, while the old crew's films had more epic feels to them. Only the first film is a bit of a chore to watch.

I wish they hadn't ended Enterprise. They should have let it go on to 7 seasons, like the others, and then wrapped it up. Out of all the shows, I didn't like Deep Space 9.

I wouldn't call myself a Star Trek fan but I have seen about half of the original series, all the movies and all the series from the next generation onwards.

My favourite Trek show would have to be Deep Space 9 because it's darker, generally much better written with none or minimal "Big Red Reset button" at the end of each episode (ending the episode with everything back to the status quo) and a decent ensemble cast of actors. I suppose the reason why I prefer DS 9 is because it is the least Star Trek feeling show of the series. It's the black sheep of the Star Trek family dealing in much greyer areas and the fact that it had a much more defined story arc appeals to me.

I do consider myself a fan of good sci-fi with Babylon 5 and Farscape being my favourites.

Star Trek is one of those programs I can only watch once. I can't stand watching them in reruns, unlike other Sci Fi shows like The Outer Limits. But I did watch it religiously until they ended Enterprise prematurely, which I thought had been progressing nicely.

I'm sick of the Next Generation films. They've done a bad job with these flicks. Even the best of these once, which most people agree was First Contact, is just barely better than the worst of the Shatner Crew films.

I think they should have done a Voyager film years ago, and now they've missed the boat. Enterprise with Scott Bakula would have been a great premise on screen, but now they've gone back to doing the Kirk Crew episodes.

My memory of the Star Trek legacy is foggy, didn't Kirk get the command of the Enterprise after that other captain was injured. In the original pilot it was someone else, but in the new pilot, or in a later episode, it was revealed that Kirk took over from that earlier captain. Is the new film set around that time or before that time?

The pilot was never aired originally if I remember right. And when it was eventually aired, it was shown in b/w. Jeffrey Hunter was the Captain. The pilot was completely different to what STAR TREK became. Hunter's character was addressed in the two parter, THE MENAGERIE. It contained quite a bit of footage from the unaired pilot. The first episode to air was episode #6, THE MAN TRAP, about a creature that must have salt to survive.
