I saw were director Justin Lin's film Finishing the Game, which is a comedy about the rush to find a new Bruce Lee after he died to finish his uncompleted movie Game of Death, is supposedly getting a DVD release in June. I didn't get a chance to see this film when it played in the theatres and was wondering if any of you did happen to see it and if so what was your opinion? Worth getting or not? It definately seems interesting and any info would be great, thanks. :)

Well, with names like MC Hammer and Ron Jeremy in the cast, im pretty sure im gonna give this a miss! Im sure it's played for laughs, and it is a fun idea for a comedy. but it doesn't look like a winner to me.

Yeah I can understand why this film might not be everyone's cup of tea, I was just hoping this might turn out to be a pretty cool comedy and a look at the greediness of film producers and stereotyping of Asians as well.

I like Justin Lin's work and I'm curious to see this as he goes back to the independent circuit after Annapolis and The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Of course, he is helming the new F&F film and decided NOT to do the Oldboy remake (Thank God!) because he wanted to be faithful to the original film and I guess the producers were against it.

I want to see this movie it sounds pretty good.
Dont bother, I thought it was pretty weak. Had a few funny parts, like the Bruce Lee clone named Breeze Lew. And the white dude auditioning for the Bruce Lee part. But for being marketed as a comedy, I didnt laught at all. Cracked a smile once or twice, but thats it. For the most part I thought it was a waste of time. I wouldnt recommend it to anybody.

What a great subject for a film. The real life behind-the-scenes drama was very far out, so it wouldn't be hard to make an interesting film on this story.

And yet... they didn't. I think the director is a talented young guy, but he totally missed the mark with this one.

If they had told more about the original film's idea, how and why the producers changed the whole thing- ruining BL's concept completely, the ridiculous politics and backstabbing among the "money men", the true crazed drama of the casting sessions, the involvment of Sammo Hung, Bob Wall, Yuen Biao, et, it would have been fascinating. But they admittedly threw away everything true that happened, and just used the basic idea -casting to replace BL for the completion of his last film- and hung a lot of weak jokes on that framework.

Very disappointing. Like GwaiLoMoFo I thought there were a few funny parts, but it's not very good.

However, being the extreme geek I am :nerd:- I got it, just knowing it couldn't be bad. So Chinatown Kid, if you'd like to see it, you're welcome to borrow it. I'll throw it (really, really hard) into the package with your trades if you'd like.

You're talking about a totally different film of a totally different genre. This was a mock-u-mentary. I do agree that yeah, the film should have had some research attached about it's subject matter since they obviously did no research whatsoever (they claim Bruce Lee only completed 12 minutes of footage), but the point was not to expose the behind the scenes of the Robert Clouse movie. It was to spoof and comment on the shaft that Asian Americans get in the US, specifically in Hollywood.

The main problem with the movie is that it's just not funny at all. Not once did I laugh. It's supposed to be a comedy and there isn't one thing in it that is even close to funny. It's basically watching bad improv for an hour and half hinged on a premise that was half baked in the first place.

15 minutes in I took this crap out, and threw it away. My girlfriend told me to give away, and I told her that the only person I hate enough to give this to doesn't live around here.
