Legendary Assassin (http://www.wu-jing.org/happenings/plugin/tag/legendary+assassin) marks Wu Jing's directorial debut. He's co-directing with Nicky Li. "Set in a remote island, the story revolves around a small-time cop investigating a murder with a mysterious martial arts master as chief suspect." Other cast includes Alex Fong and newcomer Celina Jade. Filming is due soon, with an expected year-end release. the directorial debut of hot action actor Wu

oh nooooo

Wu also heads the cast

yesssss* !!! :D

(*provided his character faces little drama scenes but has lots of enemy encounters instead)

"remote island" and "mysterious ma master" sounds like a fun set up tho.
a less cheesy, unhol(l)ywoodesque DOA maybe ?!?

I'd give him the benefit of the doubt, buuut I'm not too sure about this one.
Atleast Celina Jade is hot.

When martial arts actors direct movies, there's usually a lot of action in them. Amazing huh? The drama/plot probably won't be anything special, but I just want to see another movie where Wu Jing lets loose for the whole runtime.

I'm a huge Wu Jing fan, and I agree with the last post. Usually when martial artist direct they try and include as much fighting as possible...how could that be bad with Wu Jing leading the cast? I submit that it cannot!!

Celina Jade hardly looks chinese. Probably half-breed? Model-turned-actress?

Not really my type.

I think it's a little too early for Wu Jing to be directing. He just starting to gain some recognition with most recent films. Directing at this stage of his career would be a little risky IMO. Let's see what happens.

Jackie Chan was also young when he made his directorial debut, and don't forget Wu Jing is 34(not too young). He has great martial-arts skills and talent of actor. So We have to give him a chance to show his ability and creativity.

There're risks, but he has to get started somewhere, or he might not other chances to get started at all.

Celina Jade is half-Chinese, half-American.

Been wondering about which Alex Fong was it.

There are a few martial artists on this project, according to DJ/actor Sammy Leong. No specific names mentioned.

It's probably a good guess this could be Alex Fong Chung-San of Angel fame. He recently is working on Tsui Hark's new film.

yeah, thankfully it is Alex Fong Chung-Sun.

While Fong Chung Sun would be a good choice as he's a fine actor, I wouldn't rule out Fong Lik-Sun because he is Gold Label's artist and has rising popularity.

That's true...I did like Lik-Sun in 2002, where he was the Water Ghost.

Apparently, there are some set pics of Legendary Assassin on http://www.wu-jing.org

Those pics (http://www.wu-jing.org/Vista/Gallery/legendary_assassin) were taken by the cast members who posted on respective their blogs.

So, it's actually a female cop they're referring to. Wonder if Celina Jade can fight well (she has Tae Kwan Do listed as her hobby), or she's chosen just based on her looks.

They just had a "production commencement" press conference (http://www.wu-jing.org/happenings/archives/539-Legendary-Assassin-Beijing-Press-Conference-Wu-Jing-Confronts-Giant-Wrestler.html) yesterday. (I'm not sure if they are still shooting or what) Wu Jing's senior from Beijing Wushu Team, Kou Zhan Wen, is in the film as the main villain. And they have a wrestler 2.08m tall guy Jiang Bao Cheng to fight Wu Jing too. There'd also be a one against hundred battle.

I think its great that jacky is delving into something new, he can't act forever, so might as well do something behind film.

Although, i rather see him do some more cheography, to build up his visual style, hopefully his directoral debut will be a good one.

can't compare the two jackie was raised in the theatre. and spent years and years paying his due's as a stunt and action director before directing.

NO! thats not what i said and thats not what i'm saying. what i'm saying is that jackie had tons of experience before he directed a film. i'm not saying this film is going to be bad. i was just pointing out how bad jet li's film was. wu jing has a "co director" whom i'm more then sure will be doing most of the "real" directing work.

Elhcay
08-23-2008, 11:55 AM
I'm more inclined to think the other way round. They have Nicky Li as a director mainly to help out Wu Jing as the first-time director, to share and ease his load and burden. The premise sounds very much like Wu Jing's idea, exploring the civic-consciousness of people today, whether you'd be extend your helping hand to those in need and stand up for justice.

Well, actually Jet Li directed Born to Defense, but had help from action choreographer Tsui Siu-Ming. When the final product was complete, Jet even considered having Tsui's name as director as well, but Tsui gave the full credit to Jet for the film while he took the action director credit only.

I saw this a while ago but here are my thoughts on it now: Looks very Thai-inspired, with more emphasis on the brutal/acrobatic one-move knockouts of the bad guys, and less on complicated fighting takes. The fight at the end against the 100 guys looks cool, but I always feel that kind of fight is better as an appetizer to the finale, which I like best when its a 1 on 1 battle between the main character and a very skilled villain. Oh well, everything can't be perfect - still excited to see Wu Jing kick some more butt.

I like the choice of his character wearing white high tops so you can see the proximity of the kicks better. Less room to cheat.

Actually, I hate watching one person take on tons of opponents at the same time- it just is not feasible if the movie is "reality-based". I know that it's supposed to demonstrate what a bad-ass the protagonist is supposed to be but I find it stretches the movie's credibility too much for me.

But this otherwise looks like its worth checking out.

credibility, in a movie called legendary assasin

in a genre where people often fly and learn kung fu skills in a matter of weeks

set in the present day where people choose to fight in intricate choreographed ways instead of just shooting each other

They're withholding the big finale, which pits Wu Jing against his wushu teammate Kou Zhan Wen. This should be the scene that would make or break the movie, to us action fans. I don't think he's in the trailer at all.

Yakuza954
10-07-2008, 09:20 PM
So the real finale isn't Wu Jing against 100 bad guys but in fact Wu Jing against a single, highly skilled opponent? That would be great news.

I stand corrected on this. While Kou Zhan Wen is the crime boss, he's the bald guy, and you can tell from the trailer he's the one who gets decapitated earlier on. And as a result his wife Aoyama Noriko begins plotting vengeance.

I didn't manage to identify him from the low-res trailer and I was under the impression that he's the final opponent.

BTW, Ken Lo's indeed in this film - probably a cameo as one of the runaway inmates.
