Thanks for uploading. Looks pretty good, it'll be cool to see Colin Chou fight with Jet and Jackie. I hope it's not loads of wires and flash cinematography that takes the attention away from the fights like in Hero and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. I'd love to see the Jet Li vs Jackie Chan fight, i heard they both do drunken boxing!

Oh crap, OH CRAP! I'm kinda nervous, I've been waiting for this
By the way, I work at a theater, you can request those big cardboard stand-ups and posters they put up in the theater displays. I've already requested the stuff for this movie!

Now I am in bliss that I reserved the Forbidden Kingdom stuff  OH MY GOD, YES!
Darker than expected. The only thing is, I don't know about the kid, Michael Angarano, he was a horrible actor in that crappy kids super hero movie, Sky High. Let's just hope things didn't go awry.

Nice trailer - I hope that the good stuff is not only there, but in the movie itself too, a lot of movies recently delivered only a marvelous trailers and they suck big time when it comes to the whole art piece (example The Fantastic four and the Rise of the Silver surfer, Spiderman 3, Superman returns).
I expect a good colaboration between the cast and crew - both Jackie and Jet look smooth in their scenes (even Yuen Woo Ping considered their fighting too fast for the camera, and Jackie admits that the fighting scenes between him and Jet were one of the most enjoyable experience he hahd ever had), nice panoramic shots, slow-motion in some good looking moments, fingers crossed for this to be one of the great movies hit the screen next year.
After dissapointing performances from both Jackie & Jet (in Rush Hour 3 & War) I really hope that this one will leave a mark...
Although the competition is pretty hard for 2008 - we have Ong Bak 2 & Kung Fu Hustle 2 and not to forget the long anticipated return of the Man with the Whip - Indiana Jones... Time will tell... :)

I hope Xing Yu is in it again, oh yeh he died ! Should still bring him back because the fight he was in was the best one in kung fu hustle. I loved the comedy in Kung Fu Hustle, but i wish Sammo Hung had coreographed all the fights, nothing against Yuen Wo Ping because he is a legend, but that film would have been better with Sammo Hung as action director IMO (it was cool to see Yuen Cheung Yan in a cameo)

A prequel to Kung Fu Hustle could have been cool. The 3 masters and their fight is my favorite part.
As for Forbidden Kingdom, I am a little sceptical about the American and how he will affect the film overall.
I am pretty confident about Jackie and Jet though, and I am looking forward to seeing it.

or the actors who played the masters could return as different characters, like in so many CHow movies where he reuses actors in different roles.

It will be really nice if the three masters could return in some way for the sequel/ prequel, although they all three died in the first movie - Stephen Chow has to be inventive enough to manage this to happen... :) As for the Forbidden Kingdom I am also a bit sceptical regarding the involvment of an American in a truly Chinese legend as it is the legend of Monkey King (or Journey to the West written by one monk Su Yuen Zuan - I'm not sure about the correct pronunciation though)... I've seen something about this story in one TV movie on Hallmark with Bai Ling and some various Chinese and American stars, but it was dissapointing... Probably the latest version will be far better than this...

Now that's a shame, it looks good, but why, Oh why did they have to put an american kid in the movie??? Finally we had Jet and Jackie united in a movie but it's all ruined by that stupid idea! I mean come on! WHY??? WTF is he doing there??? An american kid, in a chinese legend... go figure... Are americans that xenophobic that they would refuse to see a movie because there are no american actors in it??? Come on, people have to be smarter then that! Aren't they? At least they didn't disguise american actors to look chinese... I guess it's a small improvement.

Believe it or not people are that shallow. The American guy is brought back in time to ancient China to partake in the adventure and this is what a Western audience wants. Plus I heard the film was to appeal to children and kids relate better with young white people.
Believe it or not people are that shallow.
OH! I believe it!
Now that's a shame, it looks good, but why, Oh why did they have to put an american kid in the movie???
The plot:
The Forbidden Kingdom is about a New York teenager who is obsessed with Hong Kong cinema and classic Kung Fu movies. Jason (Michael Angarano), is a boy who is always bullied at school. He is determined to learn kung fu to protect himself. One day in a Chinatown.......
Damn! This is starting my life story! NYC and all. :D
......pawnshop, Jason makes an extraordinary discovery - a Chinese staff. It is the legendary Ru Yi Bang staff of the Chinese sage and warrior, Sun Wukong the Monkey King.
A mysterious power in the staff transports Jason back to ancient China. There he meets kung fu master Lu Yan (Jackie Chan). He is unkempt and looks like a beggar. Jason becomes his disciple. Later, he meets another kung fu master Golden Sparrow (Liu Yifei) and the Silent Monk (Jet Li). The three of them go on to a journey after seeing the staff in Jason’s possession. There has been an ancient prophecy: Sun Wukong the Monkey King, who was jailed under the Five Fingers Mountain by Lord Buddha himself, will one day be freed by a "foreign youngster", who will return the staff to him. After learning of the arrival of Jason, the Jade Emperor (Collin Chou) immediately sends out his three highly skilled guards led by the White Haired Demoness (Li Bingbing) to get the staff from the boy. So the battle begins.....

Although i do agree with you, im looking at the bright side of it which is that at least (as far as from what i can tell) it's not going to be your typical american kung-fu shoot em-up a la Rush Hour type movie.....unfortunately masterpieces like Crouching Tiger and Hero are rare, and im not expecting this one to come even close, but it'll be worth watching that's for sure.

As for the American kid...
It's very similar to what Henry Jenkins called "Personalization" (in connection with fan-writing - but it applies here I suppose). "A means of connecting one’s own life experience with the fictional setting of one’s favorite canon"... A bit like that "Sidekicks" movie...:-)
Not that I think it's absolutely necessary or desirable - but I understand the logic behind it. It would be nice if this time they actually managed to utilize all the potential that such a confrontation of world views/paradigms/realities/whatever-you-wanna-call-it offers - but I have this feeling that it's gonna be just another "adolescent fantasy come true" kind of story. Infested with cliches of the worst kind.
Nevertheless, I am looking forward to it...:-)
TheGrimReaper
11-19-2007, 07:46 AM
@Cesare: There will be cliches for sure, however it is a great achievement as an action oriented movie and one which is driven by one of the most popular legends in Chinese folklore and mythology... As for the American kid involvment - let us all hope that it's not going to ruin the authentic feel of the whole movie... And apparently the producers wanted the film to appeal to a broader audience strating from the little ones, going through the fans of both Jackie and Jet and finishing with all newcomers to MA movies...
Now that I read about the demons and superpowers they have in the flick I think it's gonna have a serious, yet still have the over-the-top special effects feel. What immediately came to mind was Storm Riders!

Does that kid realize how lucky he is? :D Looks tight, cant wait.
My thing is, he got to have conversations with them. If he saw any of Jackie or Jet's early flicks he'd be in awe!
If it's a hit, it'll not only be Li's first BIG hit in North America. But, it'll be Jackie's second since Rush Hour 2, and if it's big enough that kid will become like the dude who starred in Harry Potter!

TheGrimReaper: Possible cliches associated with this "personalization" strategy mentioned in my previous post are the only ones that really trouble me. It's a tricky formula, sucks a very very big deal if done wrong... But then - it can be quite "refreshing" if done right. We will see.
As I said. I'm looking forward to the movie... The trailer looks quite promising.
I think it'll be a thrill for me to watch no matter what!! I wasn't kidding when I said this sounds like my life story. I've been in the exact situation as this kid time, and again! Even though I wasn't the least popular kid in school, I was and still pretty obsessed with Kung Fu! I really don't intend on specifying my exact age, but I'm still in High School and can understand a similar plight.
Strangely enough I was just in Chinatown pigging out on Kung Fu DVDs after I got my check last week!

As an Asian Cinema fan, I'd rather not see the token white guy in the flick, but on 1 hand I can see why the makers might think its necessary if they want to appeal to a wider audiance. On the other hand, no one really sees Martial Arts movies outside of hardcore Martial Arts fans, so token actors arent really needed. This can go either way...I suppose the movie makers and marketers have worked it out for the best(?)

So what. A white kid in the movie. Well imagine if he was black or red or whatever color. I think it will give it an interesting contrast.
But whats funny is in the trailer the kid and Jackie are speaking English it seems right off the bat. Or maybe they lead in to it. Hey the kid could have been a language major and know Chinese. But what the ---- as long as the movie delivers and my sixth sense says it will.

The more I see of this the more I want to see it. I have seen a lot more TV spots this week and I'm sure Lionsgate will up the ads leading into the release.
From what I've seen this looks great and could be the movie Jet and Jackie have been looking for to be a real box office hit. This could be the movie that kung fu fans have been waiting for here in the US from Jackie and Jet as well. I mean Yuen Wo Ping can make non martial artsist look fantastic...just think what he can do with these two.
www.ign.com has a nice video of Jackie and Jet fighting....nothing that will spoil the story or anything, but nice still to see some action.
From what I've seen this looks great and could be the movie Jet and Jackie have been looking for to be a real box office hit.
I have doubts, but I'm still praying! The ads need to be upped now, I believe they're digging their own grave. I honestly don't see it doing well, it's only 3 weeks away.
And I will tell you guys ahead of time how it did, if you didn't already know, I work in a theater. I'll be able to tell how the weekend box office for it will be after my shift on that Friday.
EDIT: Michael Angarano's name in the film is JASON TRIPITIKAS, that's interestingly a play off of the Cantonese name for the buddhist monk accompanied by the Monkey King in the famous novel, Journey to the West, from which the movie is based. In the novel his name is Tripitaka or Xuánzàng in Mandarin.

The more I see different materials on this movie the more my expectations are getting higher - hope that it won't be something really dissapointing when it comes to the theatres.
By the way in one of the bulgarian movie magazines there were some article (a bit on the short side) in which the authors gave their comments about this film - not very pleasant so I decided to write them about this disdainful attitude in one e-mail (i hope that they will get it correctly) because I've noticed a certain trend towards martial arts movies in this magazine as they are categorize it as "action" movies...
I was trying to be patient towards them however they were keep claiming that these movies are "childish" and "lame" and actually present no emotional value for the cinema goers... Yesterday I wrote tham a brief e-mail explaining the story behind "Forbidden Kingdom" and relation between Jackie Chan & Jet Li and I hope tha tat least someone will give me an answer...
Fingers crossed to manage to generate an interest and more people to embrace the wonderful world of martial arts movies :)
Cheers and thank you for being patient enough to read this long post.

My words exactly! The fights look like more of the same old (tired) YWP stuff, wires and all. Im not a Jet fan, but i love Jackie as much as a hetero sexual man can love another man!! Still, I just don't see this movie being good in any way. This is a crossover film, a kids film (of sorts) and a fantasy film. Not exited about any of that. I am lowering my expectations to absolute zero, then I at least won't be dissapointed.

You know what, after seeing several different versions of trailers and clips, I think this movie will be a great popcorn flick, a nice fantasy-action with some basis in Chinese martial arts and mythology. I think it will go over as well as it can go over in the States, as there seems to be a decent push for it. I'm not sure why people are hung up on seeing Jackie and Jet go mano e mano but it's not the main draw for me, anyways. I think I wrote this off not being a "true" martial arts film, whatever that is, a while ago and just accepted its true nature as some Hollywood-injected fantasy on a story thats been done lots of times before.
In short, I am looking forward to seeing it!
Me too, I'll enjoy it! Especially more than most Jet Li flicks in the U.S. Most of his try to be too dark and serious, this'll be a good combo.

Yeah, well that's pretty much it. It might induct some new fans of kung fu, though, as a lot of kids these days don't see much martial arts on TV or movies, unless of course it's from their big brother or sister who happens to have the movies already... .
I just think it will be a fun film, an adventure/fantasy, etc. it's the Monkey King legend, so it's going to be a bit unrealistic from any standpoint. My only fear is that they don't make it too OTT and diminish the actual skills of some of the actors (Jet, Jackie, Colin). That would be criminal!

Saw the movie and I loved it...Jackie and Jet together was awesome both fighting and non-fighting. Mike Angarano was actually decent in the film as Jason, and Collin Chou may have looked like a drag queen, but his skills are impeccable. Fight scenes were edited very well, have a feeling Yuen and Jackie may have had input in the editing of the action. I highly recommend it and will review it on my website Monday.

With two big martial arts film icons like Jackie and Jet in it, I'm gonna have to show support and go see this film. Hopefully it will feature some good action and even if this is more of a fantasy/family type movie maybe if the box office is good it will lead to a more serious type film for these two stars for the hardcore fans along with a big Hollywood budget. Jackie is getting up in age now though and I don't think we will ever see another performance from him like in Drunken Master 2. Maybe he can use his name to get younger martial arts stars more exposure in the mainstream market by taking a master or teacher role in an upcoming future movie. I know Jet is younger than Jackie and he looked great in Fearless so he should still have some pretty good physical talent left to put in some nice martial arts performances.

saw it this evening and it had a pretty good turnout, even a bit of applause from the back crowd! I must say, I was not dissapointed. Obviously, I knew it wasn't gonna be a hard-core HK film, but for what it is I thoroughly enjoyed it, and can't wait for the DVD. it is far, far better than Jackie and Jet's US movies from last year (RH3 and War), and far better than most of Jackie's Hollywood output too. Jet Li has done better work in recent years, but he was enjoyable here as always, and gave a better acting performance than he did in War. sure, the movie's not perfect, mostly the scenes set in Boston, but the majority of the film is fun, and fast-moving. lots of action, and my fears of it having typical bad Hollywood editing during the fight scenes were unfounded! Liu Yifei is gorgeous I have to say, and white-haired demoness is played by Li Bing-Bing to answer the above question. and the inclusion of references to old classics (including The Bride with White Hair) only sweetened the deal for us longtime genre fans! by the way, for those who have seen the film, what classic film posters did you manage to catch during the opening credit sequence? I remember seeing Come Drink with Me, One Armed Swordsman (either # 1 or 2, didn't have time to think!), The 36th Chamber of Shaolin, and Legendary Weapons of China. anybody remember any others shown?

Not bad. The Jet vs Jackie fight seems too short even though it's quite long. Maybe because they switch to many different styles and each form last about a minute. However, I thought the editing lacks a little spark, and is not so Yuen Wo Ping-esque.
Thought that they could maybe make the movie funnier by adding more of those anachronistic jokes due to time and culture differences like the cash thingie. It's weird to have everyone speaking English though. Wonder how the film would have been if they got Jake Strickland instead.

I went into this movie looking to be disappointed, and I am happy to say I was not. They were really good in this movie. I actually watched this movie twice, once with my girl and once with friends. It is really a good movie. Nothing in it to wow me, but enough to keep me happy.
As a side note, I did love the fights.
Saw it, too much filler, but overall was very fun to watch. And I love how the film didn't try to take it self to seriously. Didn't focus enough on Jet and Jackie's character in my opinion. :D Great action, but I don't wanna reveal too much.

I saw this today and thought it was pretty good. It wasn't the best vehicle for a Jackie and Jet Li movie, but it did show those two can pull out some great stuff when fighting against each other!
The story is pretty basic, and very predictable. I don't think it will appeal to a mass audience like they had probably planned it to be. The biggest obstacle, for me, was trying to understand some of the broken English dialogue. Perhaps the choice of words was bad, because many of them were difficult to understand. If they had spoken mostly Mandarin with English subs, I wouldn't have minded that. So that might be a problem for the audience, because if you can't understand what is being said, you miss some of the messages being conveyed.
The action in the film is probably the only reason to really see this flick. It's well done, and while it does feature plenty of wire work, the choreography is very intricate full of really cool moves.
Overall, it's worth checking out, but like I said, I don't see it appealing to a whole lot of people. Maybe it'll have the first weekend's box office because people saw the recent ads on TV and thought it was a strictly Jet Vs Jackie film, and didn't know it was a semi-kids movie. It'll disappear off the Top 10 pretty quickly.
It sounds like they might have left it open for a sequel? I look forward to seeing Michael Angarano doing more films, he was really talented. I looked on IMDB to see if he had a martial arts background, but nothing is listed.

How do they compile those box office numbers anyway? I guessed it would be #1 (I should have been more specific in my post when I mean to say it would take the Top of the box offices first weekend, but quickly disappear soon after) based on seeing how many screens it was listed as playing. But the theatre was quite empty when I was in it. Maybe 30 to 40% full. So is it based on actual ticket purchases, or projected purchases based on the number of theatres its playing in?

Jet Li's action adventure The Forbidden Kingdom has topped the US box office chart.
The Rob Minkoff-directed movie held off competition from Russell Brand and Kristen Bell's romantic comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall, which landed at two.
Other new entries came from Al Pacino's crime thriller 88 Minutes in fourth spot and Nathan Frankowski's documentary Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed, which went straight in at number nine.
Last week's number one Prom Night slipped to third place.
The top ten in full:
1. (-) The Forbidden Kingdom - $20,870,000
2. (-) Forgetting Sarah Marshall - $17,347,600
3. (1) Prom Night - $9,100,000
4. (-) 88 Minutes - $6,800,000
5. (4) Nim's Island - $5,650,000
6. (3) 21 - $5,500,000
7. (2) Street Kings - $4,000,000
8. (6) Horton Hears A Who! - $3,500,000
9. (-) Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed - $3,152,896
10. (5) Leatherheads - $3,021,840
The Forbidden Kingdom - $20,870,000
Pretty weak! Expected, AT LEAST, 30 mil! :(

I really don't want to disrupt the whole entire positive vibe on this forum but I wasn't too impressed with The Forbidden Kingdom. I didn't go in expecting too much, but besides the good chemistry and comedic moments of Jackie and Jet, I thought the rest of the film was forgettable.. and yes this includes the choreography. Wirework felt awkward at times where one moment an exchange of good ground choreography would then end off in a 720 varial. Also it bothers me when I see doubles used excessively. I'm sorry guys, I really wasn't expecting too much but these little annoyances really bugged me. Besides The Banquet, I feel this is one of Sifu Wo Ping's weakest works both Hollywood and Hong Kong in the past few years. Please don't hate, but I felt House of Fury had more enjoyable choreography then this. Overall, decent flick.

I agree that the movie as a whole wasn't all that great, and seeing Jet Li peeing on Jackie Chan was pretty funny, I don't know if Jackie realized it was the second time he got humiliated by Jet on film (the first being the film High Risk ;). But I thought the choreography, while not as tight and brutal as say Unleashed or Kiss of The Dragon, was still really well done. Yeah, there is a lot of body doubling, which I would blame on Yuen Woo Ping, who's being doing that since the 70s. But the hand to hand encounter between Jackie and Jet was really well done, considering these two men are physically past their prime. And Jet Li's command of the staff was nice to see.
I think the movie could have been a whole lot worse, so that's why I'm just giving it a pass as opposed to a glowing recommendation.

Now that I read Mark's review for the film I realized I forgot to mention that Monkey Goes West was featured in the beginning of the film. I really liked it. My girlfriend, who I practically dragged to see it, really liked it (she's a big fan of The Neverending Story, so that's probably why). I'll definately get the DVD just for the Jet/Jackie fight in the temple, which were some of the coolest five minutes ever put to film.
It was also nice to see a martial arts type film that is more light-hearted and caters to kids, and teaches good lessons about the martial arts. I love Tony Jaa films, but it seems like the latest trend is everyone trying to "out brutal" one another. You can always rely on Jackie Chan. Even in his crap films, he's great.
Wow, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this.
If you don't want anything ruined, then skip my post...
**SPOILER ALERT**
Anyways, here's what I liked about it:
* Of course, the posters and references to the Shaw classics, not just the standard Bruce Lee references we usually seem to get in Western takes on kung fu movies
* It hit all the main kung fu movie riffs---tea house, bamboo forest, training scenes, monks training in temples, etc.
* Nice chemistry between Jackie and Jet, and I especially liked the fact that they capitalized on Jackie and Jet's best styles. Jackie mostly did his drunken boxing, and Jet mostly did his wushu style stuff, which I always thought he looked a lot better doing than when he tried to do a more contemporary, Bruce Lee style. Jet even wore an outfit very similar to his one in OUATIC, which fit well with his fighting style.
* Lots of fights, and long fights. Nice HK style editing and choreography, not too many MTV style quick cuts.
* I like the fact that even though the white kid trained and learned kung fu, he still wasn't a better fighter than any of the other main heroes or villains.
* Great western-style production values and backgrounds---this movie looked great.
* AWESOME Morricone-like spaghetti Western guitar theme for the witch.
* Nice mix of barehand and weapons throughout the movie.
* When the monk kids wheeled in Jackie for the final fight, was anyone else reminded of 8 Diagram Pole Fighter when the monks joined the fight with the wooden wolf?
* I didn't recognize the old man in the beginning, so I didn't see the ending coming, and I thought it tied things up very well.
* I'm generally much more of a fan of old-school movies, but I didn't find the wires or special effects too annoying--the action scenes generally looked quite good to me.
* nice dual roles for Jet, as the stoic monk and the mischeivous Monkey King. Decent acting from him.
What I didn't like:
....ummm....I can't come up with too much. Sure, it would be great to see these two in a more serious old-school type movie, but for this TYPE of family-friendly movie, I thought it was excellent on every level.

.. but so far they've made almost 20 million dollars. It will make more by the time it finishes, plus DVD sales.
It wasn't a Kung Fu triumph, but it will make enough for Hollywood to do it again.
it will make enough for Hollywood to do it again.
I'm not disagreeing with you, but maybe! They spent a deal of cash on this flick so they're not gonna lower the standards for the second film, they're going to try and top it. Thus, it will take more cash and that will mean it'll have to be profitable for those bastards higher up. It may be a while. It may have to finish it's run before they truly decide. Jet and Jackie are already on to other projects as well. That'll postpone things further.
What they need to do is remove the modern-day aspect of the film (props to Michael Angarano anyway, he did fine, it just didn't need to be there) and make Jet and Jackie's further quarreling adventures the focus.

It's funny you would mention the choreography because I was watching some interviews with Jackie about this movie and he said he and Jet on the first day of filming watched the choreographer go through a sequence only once and they both memorized it and executed it flawlessly on the first take, but the director made them redo it because they were both "too fast". He said he and Jet were both trying to show off to each other speed wise,
It's just amazing when you consider the age of Jackie and even Jet that they still maintain a blinding speed that would make the director ask them to slow down. It flies in the face of convention, but goes to show dedication within the doctrine enables these guys to fight like true masters even when long in the tooth.
On a side note, I liked the movie. Not like I liked Fearless, but it was good for other reasons. The "fable" like quality of the story, and the dynamic of Li and Chan redeemed it of any of that diluted "sold out" feel you often get from large productions. The only thing that didn't fit for me was the actor they got to play the kid Michael Angarano (Jason Tripitikas). He seemed a bit out of his element to me. Otherwise, it's definitely a buy for my collection.

I've manage to see it here on good quality and to share with you my comments on this movie. My expectation wasn't high from the beginning (due to the Michael Angarano's role and the overall American production of such entirely Chinese book and legend) However I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of it all - production looked slick enough and locations were stunning as well - the action was really good and there were few spots when I watched it again and again - the chenistry between Jackie & Jet is really cool on screen and the dialoge on some places is hilarious :) So I can't wait to see it again and to put it in my own collection because it is worth it :) 9/10

Li and Chan Strike Back
It's official. The Forbidden Kingdom will have a sequel. The second "battle for eternity" was actually planned before the original's release but representatives were reluctant to confirm their capital fantasies until the first movie had succeeded at the box office. It did. Having grossed nearly $21 million in its U.S. first weekend and is still dangling on the box office charts in both the Asian and North American markets, Forbidden Kingdom was sure to have a sequel. Expect to find Li, Chan, and Li Bingbing reunite on-screen -- and possibly even a romance between the two Li's. Thus far, however, Michael Angarano, hasn't been mentioned as reappearing. And who knows? If current trends in Hollywood are any indication, decent revenues may inspire a third installment -- and all those little fifth graders will be begging their guardians to 'please-oh-please buy me the FK Trilogy Boxset!' That prophecy's unofficial, though. --Ian Shaikh
According to them, the sequel was planned all along!

I was talking with some friends about this and we all pretty much agree Jackie won the battle[ i say it was out of respect-Jackies been it longer- a true OG- Drunken style and Tiger Claws was too much for Jet], but i also say Jet won the war because after all he was the Monkey King- the most powerful dude in the movie. Agree?
China dvd is out now, but it is dubbed in Mandarin with no English subtitles.

I would assume that the Hong Kong dvd will be coming out before too long, although they tend to be a bit faster with actual HK films than 'foreign' films. and the HK dvd will be in English, so as long as it comes out first, it should be the one to get if you don't care about extras!
Lovehkfilm's review mentions of a Cantonese version of this movie where the characters spoke Cantonese. It's possible that there will be a canto track for a HK DVD release too.

yeah, I'm betting it will have an English and Cantonese track, but who knows for certain. I've noticed that many English language movies released on HK dvd only have the english track, but not always

Finally saw it and found it very good for an American film.
Good action and obviously a film with young kids in mind which it did just fine.
Would like to see Jackie and Jet do a more serious film together.

DVD/VCD product infos on the pre-oder sections of Yesasia are usually not correct or complete until the official release. Also have a feeling they will push back the release date

well, I checked out dddhouse and hkflix, as well as Joy Sales' website, and they all have the same info listed...Cantonese track, no English track. I did email Joy Sales to confirm whether or not there will be the original English track though, but I have a feeling the Weinsteins have a hand in this one.

Got to see the film, really enjoyed it for what it was but obviously was a bit watered down compared to what it could have been. Fun to watch and good action, but hopefully Jet & Jackie will get to make the film that they really should have made together.

Someone over at Kfccinema mentioned confirming with Joy Sales that there will be an English track on the HK DVD.

ok, I believe that the person who mentioned that is someone who works on Joy Sales dvds, doing subtitles or something, so they should definitely know what they're talking about.
I have a dvd with an english track & subs for when the characters are speaking Mandarin during the ancient china scenes.

The HK version contains Cantonese track only. The opening is English (maybe the ending too, but haven't reached there), but the rest is Cantonese..

Can anyone confirm the length of the Cantonese version? Is it the same as the 104-minute American version? I'm wondering if any of the deleted scenes included on the U.S. DVD release were added to the HK print.

I finally watched this the other day. LOVED the opening credits! The fight scenes were good, for the most part, in my opinion. That white kid didn't do anything for me. Neither did any of the acting in the entire movie. Although, Jackie Chan was great as the old man. Jet was boring. Goldnen Sparrow was hot. And...that's about it. It had me entertained about half of the time.
