hey, everyone. I thought it would be interesting to have everyone who utilizes this forum post some basic information about themselves, namely where do you live, how long you have been collecting and from where do you buy your movies?
as for me, i live in Rochester, NY, but I began collecting while living in the New York City area. I've been collecting since 1997, or 1998. i've bought from shops in Long Island, Queens, Brooklyn and Times Square, New York. i've bought from chain retailers like SunCoast and FYE. I've bought from some members of this forum. today, i often buy online.
and you...?

I've been actively collecting since 99.

I get my movies from -

Yesasia
Sensasian
Ebay
HKflix
the mighty Amazon

and by travelling to Taiwan, HK, or the Philippines.

[edit - add] - I stopped counting my collection at 800...

I'm 34 but I will start retro-aging this year and turn 33. :p

New Jersey, US - been collecting since '96, started off slow since I was still in high school and had little money, but have been pickin' up speed lately. For years, I bought from random stores in the Jersey/Philly/NY area, but now I strictly purchase on-line from DDDHouse, Amazon, HKflix. My collection presently stands at a humble 230 movies.

I live in Long Island by way of NYC. I've been a fan since mid-70s and buying films since the earlier 90s. I stopped for a while then took it back up again within the past few years. I'm far from a hardcore collector as I'll only buy what I like or what has gotten favorable reviews. I'm not much of an online buyer. In fact, the most buying I do is with the members here at this forum. Otherwise, I'll venture to my local Pathmark which surprisingly has a pretty good selection of cheap KF DVDs. I get my Celestial SB fix when I borrow movies from my father-in-law who get his films from YesAsia. Once I get my Cyberhome DVD player, I guess I should start buying my own Celestials. :lol

My first Kung Fu film was probably Enter the Dragon so far back in the mists of time I couldn't guess what year. Been collecting for about 6 years now, got just over 1100 films not including different formats/versions, around 900 odd are Martial Arts movies. Cleaned out the local stores and buy all my stuff online now, mostly from CD-Wow, DDDHouse, Play.com, Sendit.com, Flashlegsrare

Rindge living in Buffalo by way of Boston (Roxbury actually).

Been collecting hardcore since 1993-4. Started the 1st website in 1995 - The Trader's Forum - to facilitate the trading of Asian movies. Major sources in the early days wereNY based - 43rd chamber, films and games, and karate videos, and the bazaar in Harlem on 125th. After the website the sources were from all over the US.

Stopped collecting in 1999 but have been on the Celestial Bandwagon for obvious reasons since 2002? DDDHouse is my primary source of films these days except when I find myself in NYC - Sept 3rd is the next trip.

I have about 300+ VHS and a growing library of DVD's.

Hey Mr Mischievous!

Im no mediator but Im straight politikin, thats whats up! :hat

Im 21 and reside in London, UK. Hey Killer, I cant believe you are 18!

I buy alot from ebay and am very stingy! The average cost of a dvd to me must be less than $5. I then splurge on Flashlegs dvds, my second family.

Ive seen so many independent Taiwanese films, Im now branching into Chang Cheh and Godfrey Ho. Yes I am like that.

Blazing Temple is a great film! Dont expect too much from Judy tho! As for Shaolin Temple, I copped that and the actual film on the disc was Jet Li's first. Let me know what you think!

I'm 25, i live in Brazil and i think my first kung-fu film was Project A. My collection started circa 93-94, with the release of some John Woo movies and other heroic bloodshed ones thanks to the success of Hard Target around here but it really became serious when i started to work as a film critic (around 2001) and noticed that nobody in Brazil knew s*** about asian films! :P

I own about 650 titles in DVD (originals, dvdr and vcd/vhs/ld/divx conversions) and about 200 tapes.

Been collecting since the mid 80s, had to stop because of lack of room. I have quite a large collection because I seldom go by a reviewer's review-I love to judge how good/bad a movie is for myself. Yes I have a lot of excellent movies & well as crappy ones & I collect from all over the world. Now I am a bit more selective.

The film that got the ball rolling for me was Way of the Dragon in 2002. I immediately became a Bruce Lee fan but once I'd seen all of his 4.5 movies I naturally moved onto Jackie Chan. This of course lead onto Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao and I'm now interested in any and all kung fu films. My collection is'nt too big though I'm always looking for new films to buy.

I'm mainly into 80s and early 90s kickboxing ala Sammo Hung, but I also love the old skool films of Yuen Wo Ping etc.

Oh, and I'm not a Jet Li fan at all.:rolleyes

have been collecting for the past 20 years. I have acquired most of my collection from different parts of the world and from people. 4 year ago I give half of my collection a way, because I felt it is not right not to share what you like with other people. But the main reason was that I was just becoming to obsessed with just saying “I have that film you don’t,” . But, I later learned that the main thing is not just collecting films but just loving them and watching them. I am now trying to covert all my films on to DVD and try dubbing them in English. One of my favourite film is Ways of Kung Fu, please don’t ask why, it is a personal reason that, I can’t even explain to my self. I have this film in every type, wide and full screen, dubbed..etc.. But my top films are One-armed swordsman, Deadly Duo, the Heroes, Layout Kung Fu, Shaolin Plot, Dressed to Fight, Clutch of Power and Killer From Above, etc…

I am working as film editor and also doing film MA. By biggest dream is to direct a kung fu film, something like a remake of the Big Rascal.

Any movie I did'nt like I could return and swap until I found something I felt was worth keeping. I don't believe in holding on to every single martial arts flick you come across. A fan's collection should be tantamount to their individual taste. My collection probably numbers around 750 films. Of which there's probably 100 - 150 I view on a yearly basis. However, I'm always looking for rare gems I have'nt seen.

Hey I am from St. Louis Missouri, USA, been a fan since I was a baby in the late 70s, what's funny is that I thought those Martial Arts films I was watching on Black Belt Theater were decades old, I would of never known they were brand stanking new. Anyway I started collecting in 2000 when I sought to revisit my childhood, I came across 5 deadly Venoms and Return of the 5 Venoms (Crippled Avengers) at Blockbuster of all places and that set me off on collecting craze that still continues 6 years later.

my 1st flick to see was 5 Fingers of Death. (i didn't really like this one tho', & i passed over it, when it was re-released.)
i've been into KF flix since the late 70's. i think it was "Rendezvous of Death" that really got me started!!! & when the "Venoms" came on the scene, it was all over!!! (my innocence, that is!)
i've got about 300+ DVD's & way too many VHS to count!
i've been doing MA, for over 30yrs now! (yet, i'm only 25!!!;) hahahaha!) i practice HUNG FUT Kuen & CHEN style TaiJi.
i live in Frisco, Cali now, but grew up in NYC.
i really LOVE this forum & being able to read & discuss all these wonderful topics! mostly, i get stuff from CD-Wow, lately. occasionally i'll go to Chinatown to see if there's anything i've missed.
word.

Peace everyone! I just joined the forum but have been checking it out since 04'. I'm from Brooklyn NY and have been watching Kung Fu movies for over 25 yrs. I used to go to the Rugby, Granada and Kennmore theaters back in the late 70's and early 80's in East Flatbush (for those who know what I'm talking about) ,"The Duece" and Chinatown. I used to collect VHS when that started fading out, some of the places I would get tapes are: Karate Center, 43rd Chamber (who before that were on 42 st). My favorite are Shaw Brothers, but I also love many of the independent flix. I took a hiatus from collecting in 97' but when they started to remaster the Shaw collection I jumped back in with both feet. Over the years I have accumulated over 350 vhs and about 600 dvd. I love this forum, it is the only place I can come and feel normal about this obsession we all here seem to have!!!:rollin

I am in england, first film I saw was Project A when it was on British tv around abouts 1990 I guess, then forgot about it for a few years. In 1994 I borrowed some Jackie Chan / Lo Wei films from my sisters friends boyfriend ( thanks Keith ! ) and saw his awful bootleg of Eastern Condors. The first films I bought were Dragon Fist, Operation Condor,Police Story 2 and 3 - still love Operation Condor and the whole PS series and Eastern Condors is one of the best ever !!!! Been a mad collector since then. Have around 2500 or more films, many many posters, many many many lobbies, hundreds of magazines, a shelf full of books as well as other nicknacks. Published 5 issues of my own short lived mag around 2002 - 03. Bought very little lately as planning to move to Asia soon. Might sell off a lot of my odd bits soon so I have less to move.....If I knew back then what I know now then I wouldnt have bought half the old VHS, VCD and LD I have, you young 'uns dont know how easy you have it since the advent of DVD and the second 'boom' brought about by Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon....Not that I am complaining, it is great that so many rares are becoming not rare any more, just annoyed at the money I wasted before... :D

Kung fu 750, for years I thought I was the only collector in Kansas. Anyway, looks like I have the biggest collection in the state. I've got around 250-300 movies, been into kung fu movies since 2001 I think.

I got into this when a friend gave me Ric Meyer's book after hearing I liked Jackie Chan. First old school movie I remember getting is Legendary Weapons.

I host Kung Fu Fridays here in Kansas every Saturday night at my apartment.

I get my movies from DDDhouse, Hkflix, occasionally from Yesasia, Sensasian, Deepdiscount, Suncoast, and from dollar bins at grocery stores.

Hello everyone my profile is long overdue, i have been a member since 03 and have been into kung fu flicks most of my life. I grew up going to the movies and drive in theaters with my father to see these ficks as a child during the late 70's. (i remember one of the films we went to see was infra-man) During the 80's I taped everything I could off of black belt theater (channel 69 in Atlanta) and later I bought washed out tapes of shaws, independents from anyone I could. After watching these films as a child, teenager and a grown man I got burned out. Im a fan of world cinema and my interest expanded into spaghetti westerns, samurai films, galli, cult you name it but eventually I came back to my old love kung fu flicks. Im just getting back in the game and im in the process of rebuilding my collection btw my favorite film is The Hot, The Cool and The Vicious

Hello, kung fu filmfans, i've been collecting since around 1981, my first two films were VHS copies of Fist of Fury, and The Big Boss, by a company i no longer remember the name, however, these tapes were good quality, and the films were cut. I then found a store here in Chicago, where i live and this guy had 1000's of Martial Arts films on VHS! I 've been collecting every since then. In '98 i started on DVD's and currently have over 600 DVD's and 500 VHS. The Shaws remasters have been a gem, and with home theater Dolby Digital audio has really improved the experience, though many complained about the 5.1 remixed audios and the company stopped including the tracks on the releases in the last twelve months. That was a drag for me but the film quality has never looked better.
Let's talk Kung Fu.....!!!!!!!!

I went to see Five Fingers of Death the first week it opened.proceded to see every KungFu movie that came in it's wake. Back then the films were all rated R, being 12, I worked a deal with the theater usher at the local grind house in New Haven, Connecticut. He would let me in the back door of the theater for two bucks every Saturday. Most of the movies that played were bashers, I still love basher flicks to this day. In 1988, I stumbled onto a wall of Ocean Shores videos at the local shop, and there was "Karado the Hong Kong Cat" I was back in heaven and have been collecting ever since. This is the best community on the web for Kung Fu movies. Keep up the good work.

It has been noticed that some members have not been posting for a while and we don't know if they made it public that they'll be taking time out or perhaps it had something to do with unexpected circumstances preventing them from doing so.We know some have changed their user names and avatars and are still with us but in any case we are concerned that all is well with those who have been absent for a while. However if they are ok but choose to browse anonymously it will be good for them to give a nod to this thread just so we know that all is ok.Also if anyone knows about the situation of some members who are out of reach we would be grateful if you could shed light on their well being. The few names (please forgive the misspelling of usernames) that come to mind at the moment are:

Wasn't it The Big Rascal who posted that he'd lost all interest in the genre, to the extent of even wanting to sell off his whole collection?

Isfahani still posts occasionally, I think a good hopping vamp, or of ilk, thread usually tempts him out.

Even old Sevenhooks seems to have bolted somewhat.

My GF is hanging in there, she is currently undergoing Chemo treatment - 1 week on & 1 week off. The chemo, sometimes, do take a lot out of her - nausea, fatigue, no appetite...etc. the surprisingly this is that there is no hair lost. She is currently at the hospital - she couldn't digest any food & was having pain - It turns out that she had a blockage problem - so they admitted her & are working to correct the blockage problem. Otherwise she is doing "fine". We had Yankees playoff tickets to both games but couldn't go.

Yo, I hear you on that - one of the things I been dealing with here is my Dad and his battle with old age and Leukemia... And then his remaining sibling, his sister - my Aunt, just passed away last July at the age of 80. Pretty Freaking Heavy here too.

Secondly, thanks for asking about me. It feels nice to be remembered by y'all old schoolers. Here's my deal:

Basically about a year and a half ago-odd I got severe IRC & Forum burnout, the result of diving into the deep end right after getting online and staying there for too many years, in too many different places. I noticed that my exchanges here were getting short, curt, or downright bitchy.

So, I opted out.

Also, while it seems to have changed, I was noticing a tendency towards adversarial posting relationships in certain people here, aided by lack of moderation & manners in general. This, along with the way the 'higher ups' here chose to deal with me (not) when I offered to be a moderator in the spirit of "put up or shut up" when 'someone' suggested I do so, also added to my decision to back away. Fyi, this was some time before Linn stepped up to the plate.

While I do occasionally post a 'lil from time to time as noted, in the end for me it really comes down to a basic thing now: I would rather spend the time watching these movies than discussing them.

The backlogged que has grown exponentially over the past 2-3 years, as I used to be far more about the Kung Fu and New Wave Wuxia, slowly but surely I grew to love most other kinds of Asian films, and now TV series as well. If you would have told me three years ago I would be digging into the classic Yakuza films of the 70's or wishing there were more SB films with Peter Chen Ho that I could watch I would have said "Huh?"

Even so, I am quite f'n jazzed that the last - but not least - of The Venoms films are coming out now even as I type. I can't wait to see Shaolin Rescuers later on this month...

I am interested by the proposed forum move, and in favor of it actually - it's been obvious to me for quite a while that ezboard in general sucks my coffin mushroom and there are better forum platforms to be had... although I have to wonder what those guys want/should have to do with this community now since they bailed out on us ever so long ago... One way or another, Founders or not.

Linn for Prez'nit!

I'm originally from Westchester, New York and lived in Pennsylvania. Today, I live in Central Florida with my wife and 3 kids. We are renting a house and while I collected a lot of DVDs during my time in college, the economy and lack of funds had forced me to sell most of my collection. However, I slowly pick up one or two a month of martial arts films or I rent for the most part.

I still have quite a collection of martial arts videos that I either tapes from cable or have bought since the mid-90's as well as two milk crate full of VCDs that I used to get in Chinatown. Aside from martial arts action, I'm a huge fan of tokukatsu, notably Super Sentai Series and got my daughter and son into Power Rangers, which they love. My daughter also likes Jackie Chan and she's only 3.

I am not much a fan of the A-list Hollywood martial arts action films due to a lack of good looking fights and love Asian cinema and the B-martial arts flicks of the 1990's as they had better fight scenes as well, even if the movie is occasionally cheesy.

I'd say altogether, my collection stands at approximately 1000-1200 Asian and martial arts films on VHS, VCD, and DVD.

Well i'm 25 I started watching kung fu movies when i was little. My uncles would stay up late, and watch kung fu theater(i think thats what it was called) on CH 26.I was hook but what really got me hooked, was watching the old skool ninja films.Seeing guyz disapear, hoping in and out of trees dropping from high levels. As a little kid that was the best, but never thought about collecting.Intell I got my hands on a copy of Storm Riders. Then after that i got a hook up,at blockbusters so then it was on.I started picking up old skool wu-tang tapes and dvds.A few jet li's and jackie chan's and so on,so thats my little short history. My collection i'm not sure the total, but im guessing over 400,but i will get back to u guyz on that total.I myself would say im not a picky person,I love old skool, new skool, wire work.Whateva if u got good action then u got me hooked.I don't need the best story, just have something that doesn't make me stop the movie, take it out and wanna break it.Thats me simple, but this forum so far is a blast, so im glad im apart of it so thx to the makers and i will catch u guyz later.

Hello KFC. :)

I live in Brentwood, California and am 25 years of age.

I've been coming to KFC.com for a few years. And I've been a fan of the kung fu genre even longer (about 10 years). I didn't start collecting until around 2000, but I've managed to build up a nice little library since then, which Iam constantly adding to. I haven't actually counted how many movies I have, but Iam guessing around 120 or so. Master Killer (aka 36th Chamber of Shaolin) was the movie that got me hooked onto the genre. And I've been obsessed with kung fu movies ever since.

Anyway, I'm very happy to be part of the community.

Since then I've also converted from kung fu movies to general Hong Kong movies after watching John Woo's as well as other great HK directors' movies.
Collector since: Fall 2001 after purchasing In The Line Of Duty 4 HKL DVD.

Live in the UK, been collecting kung fu movies since i was about 9-10 years old, Im 27 now! Got a collection of well over 1000 on DVD, VCD and VHS. First kung fu movie I got given was Fist of Fury 3 with Bruce Li, and that sparked my love of the Clone movies which continues til this day.

I remember a time when the only way to see the latest hk flicks was from bad bootleg copies, often pretty unwatchable from companies like Eastern Heroes and Shaolin Video, and paying about 20 each for the uncut versions of the Bruce Lee movies, which were also awful quality. Got most of my original collection of kung fu tapes from boot sales and markets, something that you rarely see at those places these days. Moved onto VCD during the late 90's, and then DVD, which I now mostly buy online from yes asia, etc.

Love all types of Hong Kong cinema, and Ive wrote for magazines like Jade Screen, Screen Power, and Vengeance. As well as running a few asian movie related sites.

I'm Cee and originally I'm from Philly but I now live in Atlanta. I've been collecting since about 1988. I've got about 200 on VHS and another 150 on DVD (not counting duplicates because I own some movies three and four times). I tend to collect Shaw Bros. because that's what I mostly grew up watching in the 70's and 80's. I usually buy from Yesasia for Celestial Shaw releases and HK Flix for other titles. I used to buy the bootlegs from the porn shops but I have two original Ocean Shore VHS (Street Gangs of hong Kong and Ninja In Deadly Trap). I started buying those bootleg DVD's from Best Buy, Sun Coast and media Play and I also used to hit 43rd chamber when I lived in NY in the late 90's.

Realized I never put my info here.

I'm 37 and have been living in Atlanta for the last 13 years, I grew up watching black belt theater in the late 70's-early 80's, kind of got out of it towards the late 80's with no one else to share my love, started back into the mid 90's with the internet and the wealth of information for these movies. Luckly I live between two kickass Indie video stores that have Asian sections, I also love Samurai and Kaiju movies and been getting into more Yakuza lately. Been on KFF(I guess now it's KFCF) since the beginning of 2005. I'm a musicain and artist and draw major inspiration from these movies.

I've just joined, stopped collecting awhile ago just due to going to uni but that was years ago now and I am quite keen to get back into it.

Started off buying from Flash Legs in Clapham and then I used to buy from Toby's stall in Camden, London, UK and when I went there earlier this year I saw it was no longer there? Anyone on here from the UK know what happened?

Used to love my Saturday trips coming back with 5-10 films and spending rest of the week watching them.

Big fan of Venoms and Shaw Brothers which probably isn't a surprise.

I'm a 34 year old Network Engineer from St. Louis, Missouri...

I've collected Martial arts movies since my teen years; back then they were on VHS, some bought, some recored off TV when I could catch them...

Between my wife and I we have about 350 DVDs, I'd say a good 150 of them are old martial arts moves or some new movies that that would fall into the martial arts genere... I

I am kind of sad that none of my family or friends like the old M.A. movies and laugh at me when I try to get them to watch one, so I usally watch them by myself...

I also collect Martial Arts (mostly Ninja) weapons...

Shuriken, Sai, Kama, Jute, swords, knives, blowguns, ashiko, shuko, etc... If its been in a old Ninja movie, I might have one or two...

One day, I want to build a really nice backlight case for them all... Something kinda like the evil Ninja's stach spot in the cave on Ninja III: The Domination... Where the hidden drawer slides out of the rock and all the Ninja tools are in there glowing under the backlight... I always thought that would be cool... If I could only get the fog machine to work... OK, joking on that part...

I do wonder what ever happened to Ed who was known as Chinese Sausege, he loved Bruceploitation movies and was able to hook me up with a w/s print of Dynamo. Chen Zhen was a good guy too and came back for a while under the name Elaquent, hope he can find the time to start posting again. I do remember ole whamsabi too, his threads were always short and sweet in that he would say So and So movie stars this guy and that, what are your thoughts? lol. He seemed like a nice guy but I don't think English was his first language.

peace!

im 32 and grew up with 'kung fu theater' on saturdays at, if i remember correctly, 3pm on channel 5. from age 8 i was hooked for life.

at 18 i used to go by the 42nd st chamber in manhattan and take notes on all the names the regular guys there would drop so i could compile my collection. i started with some bootleg videotapes then lost the list.

at around 28 i decided i needed to get my collection up and started again slowly. now im buying a few titles a month and just here to learn from and share with everyone.

ive also been practicing ba gua zhang for 10+ years which makes watching some fight scenes a bit painful at times but enjoyable non the less.

I used to post on the now-defunct Kung Fu Super Stars yahoo list(KFSS) as AD Thompson or just AD.

I've been into martial arts movies since 1985 and have been a collector since 1991. I am a huge fan of the Shaw Brothers Studios films, particulary anything with David Chiang, Ti Lung, and The Venoms. Chang Cheh is my favorite director. I am also a huge fan of Bruce Lee and all things Sonny Chiba.

I'm in houston Tx,grew up on the Kung fu tv series and Black Belt Theatre on various channels and have been collecting since 84 or so,when I bought some tapes from a mom and pop vhs shop that was going under...since then I've raided pawn shops, flea markets, and garage sales for my habit....also hit 1/2 Price books as often as possible as well as places like hastings or sunCoast.....
Between the tapes and DVD's I have 4-500 flix...but more than a few are duplicates with in box sets...

I'm in the UK, been collecting fu movies on and off for about 12 years. I'm unlucky as I seem to have missed the golden days of kung fu cinema and pre cert tapes are hard to come by.
The first kung fu movie I watched was probably back when I was 10 and I was in cash converters with my dad and I convinced him to buy me "Fist Of Fury 2" as I thought it was a Bruce Lee flick. This eventually led to me seeking out the real Bruce Lee movies and at about age 13,14 a man at a local video shop sold me the rank pre cert tapes of the Bruce Lee films for about 15 quid each. Thats a lot of saving when I earnt 10 a week doing a paper round.
Now I just keep the rare stuff and stuff that I enjoy, I don't collect religously or anything but I still build on the collection I have.

I live in London and I've been collecting from around 97 to the present day. I think it was from a family trip to Hong Kong which kick started it for me cos vcds were so cheap there I bought a load of them back to London! Before that I did buy a video once in a while but I was more into games at that time. Over the years I've bought videos, vcds and dvds from retailers, film fairs, mail order and now online.

Forgot to admit to the changeover... Never got around to it actually.
Yes, I was formally stormybman. The Dragon sounded much cooler.

That's one shelf, and I have the Bruce Lee box set among others... I've got some of the classics, but I've been trying to dig up more rare ones.

I get mine from kungfumovies.net / anywhere I can dig em up.

Anyhoo, I hope I don't overlook any of the forums "do nots" and get ostracized! :nerd:

I'm a very big Fan of Japanese cinema my 1st. movie was "Shogun Assassin" seen it in the movies in like 1980 was hooked ever since, grew up watching the classic SB movies on the channel 5 Drive -In movie every Saturday afternoon. I remember seeing Bruce Lee's "Enter the Dragon" on the big screen at the Jerry Lewis movie theater when I was about 10yrs old. I was like OMG that was the most awesome thing I had ever seen. Since then I love Kung-Fu movies and studied Martial Arts when I was younger, but it has remained a part of my life ever since. My Friend Keith Nelson was a really big inspiration in my life who got me into many of the great classic SB movies. He also studied under the Great Grandmaster & Movie Star Carter Wong who I got to meet and have dinner with in Chinatown NYC. Been on this site for many years and have seen it go through a lot of changes, and I love the knowledge we get from one another on here, and from everyone who comes on here from across the Globe.

I am new to both this forum and the genre itself! Martial Arts films first caught my attention with Jet Li's Fearless several years back yet I never ended up watching many more. Then at the beginning of this year, my roommates mother randomly bought him a copy of Fist of Legend. We decided to turn it into a drinking game, drink every time some is knocked over. Terribly awesome idea. Since then I have watched many more movies. What started as a drinking game has turned into a new passion :xd:. I am now currently working with several others I have met at school to form our own martial arts film review site to provide fans with another source for information.

I live in the US and am enrolled in a local university. I get my DVD's from Amazon, local shops, etc.

Following the sketch of Athena:

Real Name: Alexandra
Country: Argentina
City: Buenos Aires
Age: 46
Collection: Here is difficult to get movies because there are not market for Asian Cinema, so my collection is very poor.
Favorites: Don't ask me that. Is hard.
Education: Actress. Then I was crazy and graduated in Orientalism (School of Oriental Studies, with double spezialization, Ancient Near East and Ancient China and Corea). Then I was crazy again and obtained a Master in Sociology (spezialized in ritual masking in the Ancient World) and Superior Courses in Conservation and Restoration in Art.
Work: National Museum of Oriental Art, National Institute of Anthropology, and others museums with asian and african art collections. I work too when is necesary with the Aeronautical Police and the Team for Preventing the Illicit Traffic of Art Pieces, as expert qualified in classification, legal seizure and restoring to the original place the stolen pieces.
Art/Sport: when I was young I practiced Shaolin (Southern Branch) several years, weapons included. And for years I learned classical and modern ballet. I obtained a private (not national) diplom of "Choreographer". Now I am into Tai Ji Quan with weapons too (I have fascination for weapons).
Dance: I love the dance as art expression. Is part of my life.
Music: Classic, Opera, Tango, Dance/Electronic, Symphonic Rock, Swing...
How I got into Martial Arts Cinema: In Buenos Aires, when I was young, I use to go to an popular street in downtonwn with little cinemas, and in these places were showing all the time Bruce Lee's movies, of course I "flashed". Years passed by, and Jackie Chan turned in the most popular asian actor in my country, with Jet Li. Since 2000 (I guess) a television broadcast here bought the rights of SB movies, and accidentally, two years ago, I discovered the "dream machine".

I live in St. Louis, MO and have been collecting since the late 1980s (after I started studying Chinese martial arts). A few years ago I got rid of all of my VHS tapes (over 400 martial arts movies alone) and swore not to amass a large collection again. I have about 100 or so DVDs and the number is slowly going up. I soft spot for early 1990s stuff because I got to see most of the big Hong Kong releases on the big screen...

How long a MA fan: 42 yrs. When I was 2 or 3, I watched the original 'Green Hornet' TV show with Bruce Lee as Kato. (My dad says I called it the Green Ho-Ho.) Didn't get hardcore into it until my preteens when I saw my first MA movies and my passion exploded.

Additional info: Studied Tai Chi, Chi Gung, and Northern Shaolin Kung Fu for about 8 years during my 30's. I still got some moves. You never forget that stuff. I learned enough to pose a threat to myself as well as everyone else. Look out!

Some of my fave movies include

Bruce Lee flicks
Fist Of Legend

And too many more to list.

I'm 43, live in Kentucky, name is Tim.
I'm a movie hoarder, but I've been a genre film fan since I can remember. I love Euro horror, Paul Naschy, Hammer, cannibal, and Kaiju, Godzilla, Ultraman, Spaghetti Westerns, Italo crime/police action, giallos, and sci-fi, classic American horror, Karloff, etc., and of course Asian films, Pinky, Yakuza, Samurai, Zatoichi, and martial arts, I love classic Jackie Chan, Shaw films, Sonny Chiba. And I love campy films(HG Lewis), I love Tomas Tang, Joseph Lai, Godfrey Ho films, especially their Ninja films, I enjoy those a lot.

I also am a music fan, into metal, underground style, Venom, Bathory, Celtic Frost, Sodom, etc., and punk like Discharge, The Exploited. I also play metal music instruments, and have a band called ASTRUM, we have a few releases, with a new CD on the way, http://www.myspace.com/themightyastrum and some clips on youtube under user ASTRUM502. I also like like classic what I call art rock, like Bowie, Eno, I like Kraftwerk, Ultravox(Foxx era), Devo, and Gary Numan.

I could write more, I guess that's enough.

Long time lurker, first time poster.

My name is Hamish, I'm 22 and I've been a martial arts fan for as long as I can remember, although I only recently started collecting DVDs from all over. My favourites are all the really obvious ones, stuff like:

Dragons Forever
8 Diagram Pole Fighter
Drive
Way of the Dragon
Ip Man
Magnificent Butcher
Fong Sai Yuk
The Street Fighter

Reads like MA 101 I know but I do love these movies dearly. I mostly collect my movies from Amazon, but if I see a movie in the shops on the cheap I'll usually treat myself. I'm currently waiting for True Legend and Little Big Soldier to fall in price a bit before picking them up.

My absolute favourite martial artists tend to be the superkickers like Hwang Jang Lee, Whang Ing-Sik, Ken Lo and Billy Chow, although I think Benny the Jet is also fucking awesome.

I'm also a big anime and manga fan, particularly the action side of things. Stuff like Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Hajime No Ippo, Fist of the North Star and Hunter X Hunter.

Of course I love my American movies too, all the obvious action films as well as the works of David Cronenberg and John Carpenter (as you can see from my avatar Kurt Russell is my favourite actor).

I'm kind of a general purpose nerd and I love all the usual stuff really. My favourite superhero is Batman, and I like the more physical heroes like Cap and Daredevil and I tend to avoid all the cosmic stuff.

Hi

my name is Mike from the UK.
Got into Jackie Chan in the 1980's on VHS (Rank and Imperial labels).
Lapsed a bit until an encounter with a guy in 1990 or so in a restaurant who overheard me talking about Jackie Chan etc. He ran sunday film shows at a martial arts gym on John Street Birmingham, UK.
Bought a few vhs of him and saw some great unseen (at that time) fight scenes and heard about a new guy called Donnie Yen). Found out the guy's name was Bey Logan. Bought a few VHS Made in Hong Kong tiltes in the 90's then git married, had kids etc. Lapsed again til '99 and got a dvd player. Since then been collectiing dvds and have only a small kf dvd collection of about 220. So a beginner compared with most on here.

Was a big JC fan until I saw most of the GH films by Samo. Guys a genius. Then I got into shaw bros and my fave Lau Kar Leung. I took up kung fu in 2004 after watching "Challenge Of The Masters". I am very proud of the fact that i took kung fu up NOT because of Bruce Lee.
Get my movies from - Play.com, amazon, hkflix, ebay and DDDhouse.

My name's Kenny and I live in Cherry Hill, NJ. I'm a big fan of horror and exploitation films and I'm just beginning to discover this genre. Have to admit its kind of exciting. I'm constantly exposing friends to Eurotrash/horror/cult flicks and the likes that blow their minds and its been a really long time since I've actually unearthed an underground gem myself. Getting to discover a whole genre from scratch is fun as hell to say the least.

I'm an engineering contractor as well as a writer for Horrorhound Magazine. And I'm a burgeoning convention promoter as well.

Pretty much buy all my stuff from Amazon, Amazon UK, or sites like DiabolikDVD.

I have often visited this site and forum for years now and always wanted to sign up but I was too shy, until now. As this is my first post on this site I just wanted to say hello. My name is Daniel and I am from the UK, I am a huge Jim Henson Muppets fan. I also am a big fan of classic cartoons and comedy.

I got into Kung Fu films after seeing "ETD" on BBC's Kung Fu night then shortly after that Channel 4s Kung Fu movies season (Just Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan films!) and thought they were pretty cool, but it was in August 1999 when Channel 4 showed Jackie Chan films again and I really got in to kung fu films big time and started to look at other people other than Lee and Chan and then started to collect them.

I hope I will fit in on this forum, and that this is the first of many posts!

See you around guys

I used to post on the Kung Fu Fandom board WAAAAAYYY back when. I remember when it switched over to here, but I lost track of the board for years since then.

I'm really an old school fu head, though back in the day I wasn't too big into (non-Venom) Shaws. Of course, that has since changed.

I'm a huge Bruce Lee fan (as most could tell by the username), but I am not a Bruce Lee fanboy. I can't and won't think that everything that has the man's name on it as some sort of religious relic. Hell, some of the stuff coming out recently (*cough* Legend of Bruce Lee *cough*) is rather awful. Though I did enjoy Bruce Lee, My Brother.

I would say I'm big into Bruceploitation, but I guess I'm really just more of a Bruce Li (Ho Chung Dao) fan than anything. Dragon Lee is alright in small doses I suppose.

Other genres I really dig are spaghetti westerns, yakuza movies, samurai films and tv series (Shinsengumi! is an amazing show!), good old fashioned American action flicks, most films that "film snobs" enjoy (though I do have contrary opinions about quite a few films that are considered "classics"), oh and every once and a while blaxploitation films (maybe a bit more so since I saw Black Dynamite, a year and a half before everyone else I knew did).

But yeah, I eagerly hope that you will all shower me with your friendliness. Wait, that didn't sound right...

Hi all...Basically i go by the alias Sereck(Sir Reck) from my HipHop life as an artist in Australia and releasing records and very active and rocking it since early 80's..So the breakdancing and Kung Fu has the same approach(Enter with style/battle with style and finish with respect most of the time:wink:) enough of that...blahblah but anyhow as a long time fan of Kung Fu etc I happen to had gained all these Original Hong Kong Posters from our old Sydney/Chinese Cinema where we used to go and watch alot of flix. Now been closed for about 15years a few friends were allowed access to grab most of the posters. So i got a majority and just want to learn what i have and sell em. I have actually grown fond of all the artwork and just reminded me why i loved them so much and as being a major graffiti writer  and painting major murals its influenced me to change. But i suppose its led me here and im loving the whole feel again....

Hello everyone,

It looks like I'm a lot, er, younger than everyone else here (20). Have been interested in martial arts movies for a few years now. Not as knowledgeable as I'd like to be, as I've only been keeping up with new releases. Not sure where to start when it comes to catching up on the classics. I follow everything Jet Li does. Other than that I have a lot to learn.

Favorites: Ip Man 1&2, Fist of Legend, and my absolute favorite, Fearless.

Hello, all. I'm originally from Colorado, but now reside in Los Angeles. Bruce Lee opened up my whole world when I discovered his films the early 90s. I want to say Fox Lorber (but maybe it was CBS Video?) released a VHS box set that I got my hands on and couldn't stop watching them. That set was my gateway to a lot of the cool stuff Tai Seng was putting out, and I had to mail order all of it back then (things like DRUNKEN MASTER 2 and ONCE UPON A TIME IN CHINA). Thankfully, it's all a lot easier to find great stuff now, but ironically enough, I don't collect discs much anymore, as I'm mostly switching to digital. I love kung fu flicks and the occasional wu xia swordsman story, but also Japanese Cinema (samurai tales and Kurosawa above all), not to mention the intensely gritty crime stories coming out of Korea these days.

Im 36, from the MIDWEST in the USA -- female (probably not a ton of them around here, huh?).

I've been watching kung fu movies since the late seventies early 80s, back when Samurai Sunday used to come on TV showing nonstop commercial free kung fu movies for 24 hours. The first Kung Fu movie I actually purchased was in 1995 - a VHS of Five Deadly Venoms. Someone borrowed it and never returned it however.

I eventually started collecting VHS tapes of old kung fu movies around 1999. Mostly Shaw Brothers, Jet Li and Jackie Chan movies. Two years ago I set my collection of 200 kung fu VHS tapes on the curb outside of my house with a "free movies" sign on them, since I decided to get rid of my VHS players and the tapes were taking up too much space.

I've since started a modest collection of my favorite Shaw Brother movies. I probably have about 30 so far. I love any movie directed by Lau Kar Leung (Return of the 36 Chambers excepted, ick!) lol.

I buy from Amazon, mostly. Yesasia. Walmart and locally owned used book stores (I found the pre-tarantino release of Iron Monkey there which made me very happy) and a collection of very old Jet Li movies I never heard of.

That's it!

Hello fellow martial arts film fans. Pratty here from the UK!

I used to be a big fan of Action and Kong Kong movies and actually used to review DVDs here on kungfucinema.com back in the early 2000s. My favourite films are the historical/fantasy epics and the Golden Harvest action comedies. My favourite film is Miracles, which I happily awarded the full 5 stars in my review.

Unfortunately due to personal circumstances I lost both the time to commit to reviewing and subsequently my passion for the genre in general. I hope there are no hard feelings from Mark since I stopped contributing reviews, and as I was never that good anyway I'm sure my shoes have been more than adequately filled since.

After completing a degree in Film and Media I had hoped by now to have made my way into working full time in the industry in one form or another but alas it hasn't happened. The closest I came was being invited to appear in British indie film Tough Justice.

Despite my failing career there's no reason to stop enjoying the movies, so recently I have decided to try to get back into watching martial arts films and hoped by re-joining this forum, chatting about the films, and maybe swapping a few of my old DVDs I might rekindle my lost interest. Currently I'm quite behind on recent releases but am slowly catching up.

Hi everybody, I live in Seattle, WA, but I'm originally from Anchorage, AK. I've been a huge fan of martial arts movies for about 10 years now. I saw Drunken Master 1&2 and when I was 11 or 12, and I've been addicted ever since. Unfortunately I'm pretty broke and have had to sell a majority of my collection. I actually used to be a member of this board when I was in high school, but I can't remember my old name and password, so I started a new account. When I try to talk to friends about kung fu movies, I just get blank stares so it'll be nice to chat with people who know what I'm talking about haha.

Hi All,

Joined up some years ago, but didn't post much back then.

I grew up in the country, but took judo with my dad as a kid when I was picked on by a bully and that started it it all. Remember when my dad took me into the city to see a re-release of Enter The Dragon on a double bill with Big Brawl. I was more interested in Bruce Lee back then by Jackie Chan. Little did I know...

Then later as a young adult and moved to Toronto, going into Chinatown cinemas (and being the lone white guy) was a life changing experience!

I love thinking back to what it must have been like seeing old kung fu films when they first where released. Imagine how the audiences reacted in the days before internet, computer games, etc. This stuff must have been so fresh and exhilarating!

I've been collecting HK movie posters and lobbycards and occasionally share them on my blog, Kung Fu Fridays (http://kungfufridays.blogspot.com/), named after a film series I ran for ten years.

Hope to chime in more then I have been!

Hi all, just recently joined up here. ;)
I live in a small town in Belgium and have been into HK films since the early 90's.
I had a decent collection on vhs but somehow I never got round to upgrading it to dvd.
I did get a few over the years but I only recently started buying all my old favourites (and more) on dvd.
And,by doing so,rediscovered my passion for these films. :)

Hey there! I'm Jay, I used to post here as jfinesse2000 years ago, but for some reason I couldn't get into that account and later created a new one. Lurk here all the time, don't post that often though. Into all kinds of Hong Kong movies, old and new.

I live out on Long Island, married with 3 kids. Sometimes they watch with me (the kids that is) but their only 12 and 10, and now I have a 9 month old.

Recently got an HD projector and a 96 inch screen. Nothing like watching Kung fu on a big screen!

I'm Terry. I am 49 (50 in 5 weeks). I am based just outside London in the UK. I have previously trained in Wing Chun and Seven Star Praying mantis, although I have neglected training the last year, which needs to be rectified.
I first got into MA films in the mid seventies by sneaking in to see kung fu double bills and when video came out I watched as much as I could.

My name is Tim, I live with my fiancee' since 1999. No kids. I'll be 45 this year. I am a big fan of movies, martial arts of course, giallo, Spaghetti westerns, Italian horror, Samurai, Kaiju, classic sci-fi horror, cult films, Hammer, all the good stuff. In martial arts films, I love Shaw Brothers, and classic Jackie Chan Chinese productions, IFD, and Filmark Ninja films, also Japanese Yakuza, Samurai, Sonny Chiba, Lone Wolf and Cub etc. I have a giant collection, and also like to do fan trades, so just message me if interested. I'm also a big music fan, into underground metal, electro, real punk, art rock, Bowie, Gary Numan, Discharge, The Exploited, Immortal. I'm also an enthusiast in bodybuilding, since the early 80's, and I'm a wanna be bodybuilder myself. I also have a band called ASTRUM, we have 2 albums out, an ep and 2 demos. Here is a clip from our last show, I play bass, and write all the stuff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ngu3xFokBM

This Rambler is a woman. I live in Minneapolis, MN, USA. I'm from Canada originally, so I speak French as well as English. I'm 38 years old.

I always loved foreign movies, especially Asian cinema. About 6 years ago, I flipped my lid and went completely crazy for kung fu flicks. No one is my entourage is into it, which is why I'm joining this forum.

I'm not as much of a collector of martial arts movies as I am an avid watcher. I only own about 35 kung fu movies, but my collection keeps growing slowly. You see, I only buy titles I know I will watch over and over, for years to come. I've watched hundreds of kung fu and chambara movies.

Favorite action stars: Ti Lung, Donnie Yen, Tony Jaa, David Chiang, The Venoms, Hwang Jang Lee, Lo Lieh, Shintaro Katsu, Tak Sakaguchi and the list goes on...

The first kung fu movie I remember watching is The 5 Deadly Venoms.

Hello, everyone!

I'm 27 years old from Atlanta, GA. I've been into martial arts movies since I was about 15 or so, but I didn't start seriously collecting movies till around 2003-2004. My absolute favorite is Jackie Chan. I've seen and own a majority of is films and can watch them over and over again. Of course, I'm a huge fan of Bruce Lee as well and think his life story is just fascinating even if it ended too early. I try my best to try as many different types of martial arts movies/shows as I can. From famous ones like Jet Li and Donnie Yen, to the up-and-coming stars like Yanin Jeeja, to obscure Japanese live action shows like Super Sentai, Kamen Rider, Ultraman, etc.

If it has martial arts action, I'll check it out. It's what I love to watch and its what I love to talk about. And hopefully I'll be able to contribute to this community in some way. Looking forward to chattin with all of you soon.
