About a month ago I asked for some recommendations on appropriate kungfu films for my 13(now 14)year old nephew. Well, as an update to that, I went online at amazon and bought him the Columbia/Tristar 3-disc set of the "Once Upon a Time in China" trilogy for his birthday. He received it today and he thinks it's one of the coolest things he's gotten.

During our conversation, we started talking about older films from the 70s and 80s. He now wants to check out old-school martial arts movies. Very cool! That means I can get him to watch stuff like "36th Chamber of Shaolin", "Master of the Flying Guillotine", "7 Grandmasters", "Heroes Two", "Magic Blade", "Water Margin", and a host of others.

It's very gratifying to me that he's willing to add some direction as to the kinds of action movies he watches, and that he's willing to expand his horizons in the direction of the older and more revered kungfu movies. Yep, I'm a happy camper indeed!

Good choice on that OUATIC trilogy. I saw part 1 when I was about 16 and it instantly became my favorite movie. Glad to here your nephew likes it.
