I had the Tai Seng DVD for many years but it is unwatchable on LCD as the colours are too saturated and the image is not sharp. Today I bought the Universe version which is NTSC and runs 88 minutes. My Tai Seng ran 92 minutes. To make matters worse, I have just noticed that Yesasia lists a Widesight version that is 116 minutes and rated IIB.

I brought the DVD via the U.S. release probably - is this the one you're talking about? It has yellow English subs - I'm not sure which versions are out there but I've always seen just the U.S. version which, IMHO, is excellent. I would like to see something with Traditional Chinese subtitles and with an extended special features talking to Leslie and Brigitte. I wish Brigitte never retired - she was too cool for school...

Those are the two I have - part one is better if you're going to be picky but I really loved them both - part two was awesome in my opinion....

the HK And US DVDs are total crap. the Aussie one is excellent (based on the French Canal+ Master).

But given that they're about as easy to find as the Japanese version of Kill Bill - it hardly matters. I personally didn't have a problem with the U.S. version - they looked and sounded great and both were affordable and easy to get a hold of. Maybe in a year or so, they're remaster those films, but for now, I'm happy with the quality.

The U.S version is released by Tai Seng and it is non-anamorphic. It looks JUST ACCEPTABLE on my 29" Sony colour TV but it is UNWATCHABLE on a large LCD.
Now you have got me all curious about the Aussie version.

lol, i wonder what's hard about to find KILL BILL, as yesasia is one klick away...
the US DVD for BRIDE may have looked okay in 2000 but not anymore. it is non-anamorphic, looks ugly and has the huge Subtitles inside the small 2.35 4:3 Image instead at least half in the Black Bar. to be honest - i could not endure that crap DVD even back then. but if you're happy with it, you may be. nobody forces you to look for something else.

The American version vs the Japanese version is the difference. YesAsia doesn't carry it and when they did, it was about $200 dollars U.S. From what I understand, the differences seem minor, but to die hard fans of the film, it's like night and day. However, when Tarantino comes out with his uncut version, THE WHOLE BLOODY AFFAIR - it will include the Japanese release version that was cut out from the U.S. distribution so it won't matter anymore. Those that have been dying for the Japanese version of the film will now have it without having the shell out the big bucks. Again, it's not something I considered a big deal. I'll bet in a few years or less, we'll probably see BRIDE WITH WHITE HAIR, remastered, uncut, with all the perks. I certainly hope so - but then I don't have a flat screen TV, plasma or LCD - so for me anyway, it's not a pressing issue.

I never did - but people are stupid...but if I had to guess, I'd say the $200 was for the Kill Bill box set which was a collector's item. Still, I imagine some fans were shelling out big bucks for the version you've mentioned - and why, I've no idea. I think it was slightly longer and shot the tea house fight scene in color. It puzzles me why some fans thought it was such a big deal. The American release was just fine...

In Australia, only The Bride With White Hair 2 remains in print. That's not as good as the first movie.

Sadly, these movies seem to go out of print quick. What surprises me is how fast it happens - Gong Tau (but that can still be found on other DVD sites including E-bay), and The Detective starring Aaron Kwok. Maybe it's just YesAsia, but they come and go quick. I'm holding out for the remastered, uncut versions of Drunken Master II and A Better Tomorrow III with Behind the Scene footage and interviews.
