M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening (2008)
In horror movies you will often find there are things that people should never do. You should never look under the bed, you should never
ever open the closet especially at night and no matter what never ever go outside especially into the woods with or without a flashlight.
Ironically enough M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening (2008) being just that a horror movie where so many rules seem to convalesce
and revolve around wether or not a person chances of survival are likely i think there should also be a similar set of rules for us as
viewers. If not as a rule then a warning. If ever there was one that should be created for this film i would say that Do not ever go to see this movie
would be first. This movie is called ''The Happening'' but really towards the end you are unavoidably left with more questions than
answers. The Happening? you mean What happened right? Perhaps this should have been the title of the movie that way we could
really try to at least count the times M. Night Shyamalan failed to connect. What happened to my money and what happened to my time.
Worst of all nevermind the characters in the film where everyone in the audience became inundated by the stupidity and hypnotized
by your dim reflections (the visions of M. Night Shyamalan world famous film-maker) perhaps a better question is what happened to
the audience. Sure some laughed at the sheer hopelessness that Mark Whalberg (who played the hero, survivor) went through in
the entire film but the audience left in silence. In silence and the midst of sighs. ''That movie movie sucked'', ''That movie wasnt
sh'it, ''I cant believe it" those were just some of the words i heard buzzing amongst the crowd people, credits rolling. Sighs of relief
mixed with dissapointment ''The nightmare is finally over". That's not good as when it applies to horror film.
This movie really sucked and in fact i said so when it was over (finally). (Spoiler) It was about nothing at all. Here this is what the movie
is about in a nutshell. There is a wind blowing around that makes people kill themselves that's it. Now i hope i have not spoiled a
movie that is impossible to spoil since it was already spoiled. In the least i hope i saved you $10 and 2 hours sleep. I had no idea what
this movie was about as i mentioned there was in fact nothing about this movie that left this person satisfied, the only thing i got out
of the movie had nothing to do with the movie at all. I went with this girl who i had my arm around finally. Upon reflection i can say that
i will never go see a movie made by this man again. I havent seen all his films "Signs" (from what i remember! B-), i thought "The Village"
although it had a promising base plot element could have ironically enough been the start of where it began to show that he M Night
as a director was unable to make the transference to his unique visions to western audiences. Between trying to calm my hard-on down
coughing lightly under my breath between scenes in the film now 2 hours straight moments passed through-out the film where it occured
to me that the movie was going absolutely nowhere, I know this person has a certain eclecticity about the type of way he wants to pathe
but perhaps he should keep such crude and unshapen fantasies to himself until they are in full form. It is a good idea and im not saying
that i did not get it but again let me re-itterate this person keeps on failing to make the transference between his Unique vision from thought
to, screen something is getting lost-in-translation. M Night Shyamalan you bastard, i want my money back. As the credits rolled & the crowd
headed towards the exits i could not help but think how we all filed out like zombies.
