As a lot of forum readers are talking about dvds from various regions i thought i would mention my new dvd player which i just purchased.
SUMVISION PHEONIX PREMIUM DVD PLAYER (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-53481-19255-0/1?type=4&campid=5335857173&toolid=10001&customid=kf+forum+sumvision&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.co.uk%2FSUMVISION-PHOENIX-PREMIUM-1080P-UPSCALING-DVD-PLAYER_W0QQitemZ280244190889QQcmdZViewItem%3Fhash% 3Ditem280244190889%26_trksid%3Dp3286.m14.l1308)
It is :
Region Free out of the box.
Upscales normal dvds to 1080p via HDMI
Plays downloaded files like DIVX from disc OR from SD Card / USB.
Outputs via scart, hdmi, component.
I am very please with the machine for the price, will make do with upscaling my existing collection (looks great on my lcd 32") until Blu-Ray has settled a bit.
This was bought from a UK supplier not sure if it is available in America or Europe yet.

The Sumvision dvd players are just like the Apex dvd players that he had back in the days.
I do not own one but a friend of mine has one - he got it from his sailor uncle, I have watched it in action - Its plays everything you throws at it (thou I didn't try upscaling). Other than that one, I haven't seen it in the US.
For us in north America, the choice is/should be Philips - performance & value.

Sumvision I believe is UK based & only sell via the web.
