I'm having a problem with vcd's that I receive in trades. They contain both mandarin and cantonese audio tracks and they both play over each other. I don't have this problem with vcd's I purchase because the dvd player allows me to switch from left audio to right audio - but the dvd player won't allow me to switch the audio with the vcd's that are burned.
How can I fix this problem? Ideally I would like to play these discs in my dvd player with just one of the audios!

It is because they were burned like data cd(which contains vcd movie). But the vcd's you bought aren't data.

It is very easy to solve. Just click on the AUDIO button from your remote control, you would be able to hear EITHER Mandarin OR Cantonese, not both.

Yeah, it doesn't work when I click audio or left or right on my remote control...
I am just wondering how to solve this problem?

You said the guy burned them as data cd, right? Why don't u burn them as video cd (use nero) and that should solve the audio problem. Another thing, can u switch to different audio tracks when watching them on your computer?

You would have to rip the VCDs and then put the files thru Virtual Dub to split the single audio track. It's possible with this program to turn a single channel with two languages into a single channel with one language. I'm not good at techie stuff but I managed so it can't be TOO difficult. I think the VDub website has a detailed guide. You'd then have to re-burn the AVIs to disc. Because you're only getting one language make sure you keep the right one. ;)

why re-encode the video and so lose some of the crap quality a VCD already has?

thanks,Markgway.
I do it just for trades because some traders complain about double audio. For me it doesn't matter, because i can swithc off to one channel.

Yeah, double audio is useless. Who wants to hear two sets of dubbers compete for your ears? :p
On an original VCD you can easily switch tracks - to left or right.
But if it's been ripped for a copy that might not be possible depending on how competantly it's been done.
If it's been ripped with only the centre channel you get both soundtracks - one in each ear. In that case you have to split and I use Virtual Dub.
Like I said I'm not good at this sort of thing but hopefully it's pointing you in the right direction.
When you play the VCD on your computer, are you able to isolate a soundtrack by muting one speaker?

just demultiplex with tmpeg to streams, rip the audio you need from the mp2. encode that to mp2 again and multiplex with tmpeg again - done. video quality stays the same as before and you can watch them also when stored on a dvd-r

I've burned countless vcds and I never had a problem switching from Cantonese or Mandarin. The guy who burned the vcds probably didn't burn them as video cd. Have you tried extracting the files off the cds and burning them again as video cd?

Spannick knows more about this stuff than I do - I'm just saying what worked OK for me.
