View Full Version : Bonanza
Anyone here who like Bonanza? I recently bought the first 7 seasons on dvd from German Amazon.De. It`s uncut and digitally restored and remastered. I have heard from others that bought that Bonanza has never looked this good before. Of course in picture quality. I see you can choose from German dubbed audio and original English audio.
It`s too bad the company only releases two seasons every year. It will be 2011 before the last 14th season will be released.
For total of 7 seasons i payed 427 American Dollars. It was expensive to buy it, but i can afford it. This is the only official seasons set available to buy. I am eager to watch it.

They play Bonanza on TVLand here in the US all the time. I caught an episode a few weeks ago that had Charles Bronson cast as a wrongly accused Indian. Little Joe was cool and loved that theme music!

one of my favorite tv shows when growing up. However, it doesn't stand up too well for me these days--too many corny comedy episodes, and overacting. I guess that could be kind of charming. I see the re runs here, but usually can't get through a whole episode anymore :(

If you like the old Western tv shows, I got the first couple of seasons of "The Rifleman" with Chuck Connors, and lemme tell you, it is awesome :D ! Great guest stars, great writing, and the Rifleman is one bad ass. Check it out!

I was never big on BONANZA but do remember the series from my childhood.
One of my favorite Westerns is BAT MASTERSON, starring Gene Barry. He was the "John Steed" (AVENGERS) of the American TV landscape. I liked that he preferred to use his fists and cane before drawing his gun. It was a highly romanticized depiction of the famous American Old West adventurer but entertaining nonetheless.

I used to really like The Wild Wild West with Robert Conrad, they had some suprisingly good choreographed fights on that show! :)

I love this show. Conrad was also inducted into the Stuntman Hall of Fame for his work on this program and seeing the elaborate and seriously dangerous stunts again, the series was way ahead of its time. Attacks against the show for its (then) rather extreme violence caused its demise after four seasons.
BONANZA is good, too. I used to not like it but I watch it often when I can as well as GUNSMOKE. Lorne Green was great and he basically reprised his role here in 1978 for BATTLESTAR GALACTICA.

Glad to know you enjoyed the show too Venom.:) Conrad definately wasn't afraid to play rough in his fight scenes, even though he was a little guy he came off as pretty tough and badass in his fight scenes. You remember that midget villain called Dr. Loveless? I liked old Artimus Gordon as Jim's trusty sidekick as well. They had some lovely lady guest stars on the show too. It was like putting James Bond in a wetern setting. Did you notice the title of every show started with "The Night of the ...."?

He played rough off screen, too which was one thing that led to the show being toned down. An accident occurred on season three episode NIGHT OF THE FUGITIVES in which Conrad fell 12 feet head first onto a concrete floor painted to look like wood. An inexperienced stunt man resulted in the accident that kept Conrad off the show for 12 weeks. The failed stunt is left in the show, too. Looks very painful. When Conrad returned he was no longer allowed to do all his own stunts and was forced to use a double from then on out. Dr. Miguelito Loveless appeared in 10 episodes only. 5 in season 1, 3 in season two and one a piece for seasons 3 and 4. The reason for the decline in his appearances was health issues. I have all four seasons on dvd now. Absolutely great show and way ahead of its time. The Bond elements were what was intended for the show from the start--to do a James Bond in the old west. Ross Martin was also replaced during season 4 for a number of shows due to a broken leg on the show. He had various replacements that popped in while "Arty was in Washington". He did appear in most of the season 4 shows, though.

BTW, season one was very dark and violent while season two piled on the horror and fantasy elements. Season three saw a return to more traditional western elements toning down hard on the fantastical bits. Season four returned to the more fantasy shenanigans but a noticeable decline in production values as well as newly implemented restrictions hurt the final season of WWW.

They won't be hard to find. They came out in fairly rapid succession. The fourth season just came out a few months back. Here, there right cheap now...
