GOLDEN DRAGON YIN-YANG

Any one seen this in its premier the other day in New York City?
I love the spaghetti western genre. And the two Django movies with Franco Nero.
Check out the trailers. Looks like a hoot.
Thanks,

I've had the DVD for a couple of months, it's a pretty good retelling of the classic Yojimbo/Fistful of Dollars storyline, cranked up to 11. Everything is over the top and oozing with style, but having all the Japanese actors delilver their lines in phoenetic English was a real distraction that I think took away from the fun of the movie. The English dialog made it feel like it was moving at a snails pace at times.
Still worth checking out.

Its an interesting curio, lots of imagination, but still I'm not aching to rewatch it anytime soon, if ever.
As mentioned, its heavily stylized with the whole new wave hipster costuming and hairdo's and stage backdrops. Its kinda' like Samurai Champloo, combining a period flavor genre with knowing modern nods.
The phonetic English acting choice really killed it for me (much like it also harmed "Imprint"). If Miike really wanted to pay tribute to the Spaghetti's and make English the primary language, he should have dubbed the film with more English-friendly actors.

I didn't get to see this movie but I was really looking forward to it, but when I heard all the Negative reviews before it even came out out the English Dialogue I couldn't understand why he did it. I agree he should've stuck with the Japanese Dialogue and dubbed it in English...What the Hell was Miike Thinking.

I recently purchased this movie hkflix and I thought it was decent. It started of a little slow, plot and action wise, but it picked up on both accounts. The spoken English wasn't a deterrent as much as tarantino being in this movie, the man is a terrible actor.

Ok... I think you guys missed the joke. The movie takes place in Nevada, despite obviously looking like a japanese setting... It's a nod to spaghetti western who were suppose to take place in the US but were actually filmed in Italy and Spain.
Second, like for the case of the setting, spaghetti westerns usually had a good deal of italian and spanish actors who didn't speak english very well and that were dubbed afterwards. Instead of dubbing his actors, Miike made them speak english...
So that's it, it's just a joke in reference to old spaghetti westerns, Miike just pushed the concept to the point of ridiculous, wether you find it funny or not. I must admit the joke about the phoenetic english is funny for a couple minutes, but it does get tiresome after a while... It would've made a better short then a feature film.

Oh, I got the joke, it just wasn't funny, and dragged down my enjoyment of the movie since it lasted the entire length of the film.
By your own admission, a more appropriate way to homage Spaghetti Westerns would be to have the Japanese actors voices dubbed into English (even better, if their dub did NOT match their lip movements at all). That would've been funnier, too.

Like I said, I totally agree that the joke drags on, and stops being funny very quick.
I don't think a bad dub would've been a better solution, since it would've been funny for a couple minutes too... Once you get the joke, it's only funny for a while.
I wasn't defending the movie, just explaining what I think Miike tried to do... Wether or not he was succesfull is up to each and everyone.

His intent is kinda' immaterial. It doesn't work because it is annoying to not make out what the actors are saying half the time.
I get that it was just another aspect of Miike trying to be all meta, but it would have worked just as well dubbing the actors with the added bonus that you could get the same joke/referencing and actually understand the dialogue.

For each it`s own.I starts quite interestingly and for a moment I thought this is good sh*t...but then it becomes for hour or boring stuff between red and white clans.
Ending is nice though so even as cannot really recommended it,if have nothing to do,check this is not bad choice.

OK I finally got to see this movie over the weekend on Showtime and I'm going to go against the grain here by saying I really didn't care for this movie all that much. It really could've been so much better it had the right stuff but it failed to execute on film. I think the storyline was really good about the Marriage between the Red & White Clans but the English Language really sucked and that is what I was afraid was going to happen. The Sheriff made me laugh because he was just plain nuts and had a duel personality and was always fighting with himself. The Actions scenes were excellent that I cannot say anything bad about. It was just a little hard to understand exactly what was the purpose of the Stranger coming into town which you never found out why. As far as QT being in the movie I thought he was just awful they could've found someone better then him for this movie! So its worth a rent but that is as far as I would go.
