Hey guys,
At the library where I work, we have a copy of The Encyclopedia of Hong Kong Cinema, by Lisa Stokes, who is actually a professor at the school where the library is. She has done a lot of research on Hong Kong cinema and well, I checked out this encyclopedia and I came across Corey Yuen. In parentheses, it had this name and it is his real name:
Corey Yuen was born Ying Gang-Ming. So for those who are wondering for the longest time what Corey Yuen's real name, this is what it looks to be.

Thank you! He seems to be the member of the 7 little fortunes with the least info available (save for Yuen Miu). I'm just sorry to say that I probably wouldn't have seen this if not for the spam post.

Yeah I hear that Asmo. When I saw the name, I was stunned and I just felt since like you said, Corey is the one with the least info, I had to bring this up big time!!!

Definitely. It seems they're all tightly lipped about their real names (the ones that use 'Yuen') out of respect for Yu Jim-Yuen. If you look at guys like Yuen Tak or Yuen Miu, there's even less info out there (Yuen Tak's first credited film appearance was in 1976, but Jackie's book mentions him working as an extra/stuntman well before that, and even less is known about Yuen Miu).

Okay here's a list of real names I know for sure:
Yuen Ting - Ng Ming-Choi
Yuen Lung - Sammo Hung Kam-Bo
Yuen Lau - Jackie Chan
Yuen Biao - Ha Ling-Tsun (Hsia Ling-Jun)
Yuen Kwei aka Corey Yuen - Ying Gang-Ming
Yuen Wah - Yung Kai-Chu
Yuen Mun - Meng Yuen-Man
Yuen Tak - Richard Hung Cheung-Tak
Yuen Qiu - Kan Chia-Fong
Makes me wonder and I hope someone can answer this. Did Fan Fok-Fa's school have any similar names for their students like these guys did?

Yung Kai-Chi ;)
I'm not sure about Meng Yuen-Man. It just seems a bit coincidental that his real name would have 'Yuen' in it (that character anyway). Seems like Meng Lung would be more likely. That's just my thinking though.
As for Fan Fok-Fa's school, wikipedia doesn't list any so I'm not sure. If there were similar names it's possible that they were never used outside of the opera school.

Good point you have there Asmo. My guess is that maybe Meng Yuen-Man may havebeen born something like "Meng Chin-Man" or something...who knows?
I gotta see Painted Faces. I keep hearing so much about it, but never actually had the chance to see it. I heard Sammo was awesome as Sifu Yu and I think Cheng Pei-Pei was playing Madame Fan. I could be wrong though.

Don't think Madam F did that name thing. Think it was just Jimmy.
Madam F's kids:
Mang/Meng Hoi
Austin Hui/Wei
Lam Ching Ying
Chin Kar Lok
Chin Siu Ho
Siu Ho/Hsaio Hao
Mars
Chien Yuet Sun
Chung Fat

It's possible, we might not know until he is located.. or we may never know. Yeah, I really want to see it. It's a shame that the vcd is supposed to be such bad quality and OOP. Wishful thinking but perhaps Celestial will finally release it if their "plan" (releasing Lost Souls to seemingly test the waters) sells enough.

Holy cow!!! That's funny. I didn't even see your post Asmo and I actually watched this today with my son. He's near 18 months, but likes seeing some kung fu on Youtube already LOL
That's ironic. Good to see you're starting him young. That video is cool, but it has a bit of a sad note to it. I hope they can find him.

Yeah i can't get enough of from that first car chase to the airplane bit which ending is people's favourite?
I liked the Cantonese ending. You need to check out On The Run. Possibly Yuen Biao's darkest film, even more so than Righting Wrongs.

Yeah thanks for the advice but I in fact have the tai seng dvd of it.
Ah. Figured you might but it didn't hurt to mention it. I had to order it recently, it's been some time since I've seen it.
