can anybody think of HK films that feature bank or jewelry store robberies?
ones that come to my mind are...
Long Arm of the Law 1 and 3
City On Fire
People's Hero
The Most Wanted (I think there was one in it)
Expect the Unexpected
Eye in the Sky
any others come to mind? I'm sure there's others I've seen, but can't remember now

From Beijing with Love (1994) - the robbery in the mall

Can't think of any others off the top of my head.

Dang mark187! You named all 4 that I could think of :p Did that MIchelle Yeoh Supercop movie have a bank heist? The only scene I can remember is Jackie Chan dressed as a woman in a bank I think. Funny stuff.

The one in Millionaire's express is awesome.

Full Alert: Francis Ng and Lau Ching Wan. Not robbing the bank, but Francis robbed the horse tracks' safe. Tightly paced. Another Ringo Lam's movie about robbery gone wrong.

The Victim (1999): Tony Leung Fa-Kai and Lau Ching Wan. Lau is a bitter ex-government employee who decided to rob the money-printing factory that he used to supervise. Ringo Lam's movie, again.

Running out of Time: Andy Lau and Lau Ching Wan. Andy has 14 days to live and decides to fool both the cops and his rivals one last time. Diamond robbing this time. Milky Way's production.

Love battlefield: Eason Chan gets mixed with a bunch of mainland fugitives who about to rampage the street of hong kong when Eason screws up their drug transaction.

Isn't the robbery in Running Out of Time actually an office, even if the loot is jewelry.

the office belongs to the company across the hall. Andy used that to divert the cop's attention while his main goal was to rob the transporting company next door. Andy used the ventilation system to record the safe's passcode, then proceeded to rob it.

The one in Millionaire's express is awesome.

Good funny scene if I remember correctly. I remember it being pretty awesome too. Good call.

I agree, very good. A nice twist in the cops and robbers genre bringing the news thing into it. And awesome shootout at the start. Inspired by Heat?

I think so, too. Heat was the first thing that popped into my mind when I first saw that opening shot in Breaking News.

haha...I've actually seen all of those films! I agree about Full Alert, not only a terrific robbery but an excellent film. I guess that shows you how much time I spend watching watching HK films, except Point Break ;) (I'm assuming that's the Keanu Reeves movie and not some HK one I've never heard of!)

It's not really hard catching up all the HK films seeing how the industry is almost at death right now. Early 90 = new wave kungfu. Mid 90 = triad. Late 90 early 2000's = milky way dominance and hollywood adaptive.

key word being almost. despite the recent hard times, I still have faith that it will pull through!

true. But Hong Kong favors quantity over quality, hence they will need a ground breaking movie to ignite the mind of Wong Jing and alike. Then those copycats will unleash their works into the market and hopefully we could see some boost.

Time like this I wonder where the hell is Tsui Hark. Thrice in the history of Hong Kong cinema he brought something fresh to the game.

I'm pretty sure there's a jewellery store robbery in both Full Contact (with Simon Yam's gang near the start), & also the category III movie Escape From Brothel.

& although I've now had it for years and still not watched it, I imagine theres a bank heist somewhere in the Shaw Brothers movie 'The Big Holdup', with Chen Kuan Tai & Danny Lee.
