I wanted to see where I might find a wide (preferably original aspect) of Bruce Lee Man, The Myth (True Story). The versions I have are all cropped and as you can see, A LOT from the original image:
Wide:

The japanese dvd is in letterbox if I remember correctly.
A Japanese fan sent me a dvdr of it (good print), it even had an extra scene (can't remember what it was now) but I passed it on to someone as it was in mandarin with no english subs...(doh!):\
I think it's still available at cdjapan.co.jp

Sorry looks to be unavailable now. Was under the 'True Story' title.

Thanks Fish,
Though the site did seem to list the film as Full Screen on there but I find those are wrong half the time (or they assume it means you see "the full screen).
Just sent you a PM.

yeah, the Japanese DVD is completely uncut and cropped to a watchable 1.85 from 2.35 Ratio. it has Scenes i did never see in English (Dialogue) and is in Mandarin Language.
the HK VHS was uncut, but Fullscreen (Cantonese / Chinese&English Subs).
Japanese Runtime: 98:09 (NTSC)

Eternal Films didn't have anything but a fullscreen VHS transfer to give them. And they didn't find out till nearly the last minute.

Linn have you heard of anything else in the works for a widescreen release of Dynamo in the possible future? Or for any of Li's films like Lama Avenger, Chinese Stuntman, The Last Strike or Bruce and the Iron Finger?
What sucks to us Ho Chung Tao fans is when they decide to release one of his films in true widescreen and remastered it turns out to be one of his worst films like New Game of Death courtesy of Celestial/IVL. Why oh why couldn't it have been one of his good films? :rolleyes

Too bad there wasn't a way to use the Japanese version with a new English dub or English subs (though I have not yet seen the Japanese one).

I'm surprised Pan Media hasn't ripped off this w/s Japanese version and slapped the English dub on it by now. :\
Being a big Ho Chung Tao fan, I've ordered the Japanese version to add to my Bruce Li collection. Now if only Chinese Sausage would send me that copy of Powerforce he promised me, I believe that's the only Bruce Li flick I haven't seen yet. :b

The plan was to use the extra scenes and different intro of the Japanese (and Italian) version as extras on the Media Blasters release. As for more coming, there's a widescreen version of a Bruce Le coming, but no plans at the moment for anything with Li. But stuff pops up all the time.

Hi Linn,
Which Bruce Le film is it?

I am also eager to know what Bruce Le is coming. Also, when's the Celestial New Game coming out and how it will compare to the Anchor Bay release.

I noticed on DDD House that New Game Of Death was 86min from Celestial. Either that's a typo, or theres some extra footage

I had a copy of the Japanese release at one point. It looked nice but was in Chinese. I still have the Italian DVD (called BRUCE LEE - SUPERCAMPIONE) which presents it in a nice 1.85:1 transfer.

That is great. Didn't know it was coming out. The Anchor Bay one is an excellent version but also listed at 83 minutes as well as just the English. Celestial sometimes includes some nice extras and fantastic prints.
I checked HKFLIX but no notice of its release so may order from DDD (though never have before).

Hold fire on the Celestial disc until we get confirmation. It could be a typo

Agree that it might be, but the print with the subs would be of interest to me and the prices there are so damn good iti is hard to resist! :)

True. Since I have the UK DVD, I'm a little of wary of paying for a standards conversion. Pity it wasn't another Bruce Li film!

Never really cared much for Bruce Le although he did have a few films I liked. Hopefully one of Li's good films will pop up in the near future in w/s and remastered. Let us know if you hear of anything Linn, thanks!

I have a copy of Li In New Guinea (a weird film for sure) but is 2.35 and in English. I think it was a German DVD burn. I would love to get pristine prints of Deadly Kung Fu and Dynamo though.

Yeah Squid I have that German DVD of Bruce Li in New Guinea, it has the nude scenes cut in the actual film print but includes them in the special features. I sure wish someone would put out a 2:35.1 w/s of Dynamo and The Lama Avenger!

I haven't even watched the full German print yet but will this weekend. I also have a wide version of Bruce vs. Bill and Bruce and Shaolin Kung Fu that is wide to see yet still.
One time someone sold a 16mm scope version of Dynamo on Ebay and I was broke at the time but it sold for $40! Wish I got it and transfered it now....

Interestingly, I've seen two different versions of Bruce Lee: The Man, The Myth
UK VHS, censored and taken from a UK theatre print. There is no title card but there is a full cast and crew list, including the US dubbers
Possible US VHS source, seen on Youtube. No credits at all, but there is an animated title card, identical to that seen on the US theatrical trailer.
Even more unusual, the finale - www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGmUS3zuxmQ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGmUS3zuxmQ) - is different from the UK version. It's reverts to the old school Shaw style dubbing, a bizarre script tangent about Betty's "husband"*, and an extra shot of Bruce suffering from a headache. Weird
* In the UK version, he's talking about fighting Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

the Nude Scenes are not cut but have alternate Clothed Footage in the Movie!
Squid Lips
07-07-2007, 03:36 PM
So in the UK version, Li is talking about fighting Jabbar in Betty's bed?
I have alwasys noticed in the US version the change in dubbing in that scene as well as the refernce three times to her husband to keep it kosher...
But what is this about a nude scene??
Chinatown Kid
07-07-2007, 04:06 PM
I think spannick is talking about the nude scenes in Bruce Li in New Guinea. If he is, he's stating on the German DVD that the scenes in the film print have alternate scenes with the girls clothed but the special features show the scenes with the women nude. It still would make the nude scenes cut in the actual film print so I don't understand what he means when he says their not cut. :\ Then again he might be talking about The Man/Myth, if he is I was never aware of any nudescenes in that film. Now the film Bruce Lee and I did have alot of nude scenes featuring Danny Lee and Betty Ting rolling around in the sack. :lol

The IVL DVDs of Bruce Lee And I are visually, with shots of Ting Pei played in slow motion to cover the gaps. Weird. Were the Chinese prints always like that?
spannick

Chinatown Kid: if the Scenes are in the Movie only the girls have clothes on, it's alternate footage - cut is NOT ALTERNATE but completely missing in my Book.
Chinatown Kid
07-07-2007, 07:58 PM
Ok spannick, alternate footage then. What I meant to convey is that the nude scenes are NOT included in the actual film. As you say they have alternate footage showing the woman with clothes on instead.

I was watching some of the clips in the Japanese version of Man, Myth (True Story) and noted extra footage that does not turn up in either the Italian or the U.S. so wanted to see if anyone has seen an English or maybe Chinese version of it.
It is in Seattle when Bruce Li is talking to the students. When the group runs up to Bruce, the japanese version has the taller male in the group doing something that may be his version of the Cha Cha and they laugh. Then there is a close up of another woman in the group saying something. Then it goes back to the wide shot. Those clips are missing in other prints and was wondering what else may be in the Japanese that isn't in other versions. I may have to sit down and go through it.
